*Ztarwarz writes about each ISFL team-Bal Edition - ztarwarz - 03-23-2021 Yeah, we're back with this again, but this time with a slight difference. I liked Adam's way of going over position groups last time more, and I wanted to compare last season's rosters with this season's rosters. Let's begin, because this is going to be a long one. I'm going to go team by team because I'll never have enough time if I don't. ![]() ![]() Let's start with the obvious: This is a tank job. This team is not supposed to be good, they are not supposed to be competitive. This team is supposed to lose a lot, and the moves in the offseason made that extraordinarily clear. QB: Chika Fujiwara, S21 (1297 TPE, 1st among QBs)-> Luke Skywalker, S22 (917 TPE, 12th among QBs) (IA) At this point, the only QBs who are worse than Skywalker are really young. Nobody older than Season 25 at the position is worse than he is. This is a significant change from last season, where Fujiwara was the best QB in the league TPE-wise. Add that to Skywalker being inactive and this position is in for a rough time right now. RB1: Mai Fukushu, S24 (824 TPE, 11th among RBs)-> Preston Parker, S27 (412 TPE, 30th among RBs) RB2: Matthias Hanyadi, S18 (606 TPE, 16th among RBs) -> Busch Goose, S28 RB (336 TPE, 36th among RBs) RB3: King Tutankhamun, S25 (212 TPE, 46th among RBs) -> Nobody This is a bad group. Every other RB group in the league finished last season with over 1000 TPE, and all of them will begin this season with over 1000 TPE. This group probably doesn't reach that margin. At least both of these guys are earning really well, so this is an improvement in terms of futures than last season which only had one good earner. But as it stands right now, there are currently 14 RBs better than both of these guys combined, including a couple RB2s. Only New Orleans is even in the same stratosphere of bad RBs that this team has for the upcoming season. WR1: Joshua Campbell, S24 (737 TPE, 21st among WRs) -> Mario Messi, S26 (601 TPE, 32nd among WRs) WR2: Korbin Brown, S24 (597 TPE, 31st among WRs) -> Luke Quick, S28 (325 TPE, 47th among WRs) WR3: Mario Messi, S26 (474 TPE, 40th among WRs) -> Chunt the Badger, S28 (307 TPE, 49th among WRs) Last season, the Hawks had the 2nd worst Wide Receiver group in the league, not helped by their WR2 being inactive. That being said, now they have 3 strong earners, who will be great players in the future. Unfortunately...or maybe fortunately considering their plans, they currently combine for 1233 TPE total. While there might not be as many single players with more TPE than the entire position group (just Witheblock and Lim), this group is actually worse off in terms of position groups they are below. No team starts a single WR1 lower than Messi, only the Hahalua have a worse WR2 than Messi, and there's at least one Wide Receiver on the Portland Pythons who will start the season better than Quick and Badger. As a matter of fact, the only Wide Receiver in the entire ISFL worse than Quick is...Saba. Who's a WR4 from Season 17. This is going to be a force to be reckoned with in 4 or so seasons...but this season? Good luck. TE1: James Lewandowski, S21 (1091 TPE, 3rd among TEs) -> Donatello Arrabiata, S22 (369 TPE, 14th among TEs) (IA) TE2: Nobody -> Makoa Mahiʻai (264 TPE, 21st among TEs) I don't know what else to say about this other than to link the History of the Tank article from Wikipedia. At least Baltimore got a pick out of this downgrade? Otherwise, yikes. OL1: Felix Archstone, S25 (587 TPE, 16th among OLs) -> Nobody From what I've heard, this is actually going to be a stronger OLine than last season due to higher quality bots. That being said, no user Oline, at least you got a pick out of the trade. Next. DT1: Nuniq Annastesia, S22 (547 TPE, 20th among DTs) (IA) -> Nuniq Annastesia, S22 (547 TPE, 19th among DTs) (IA) Absolutely no change whatsoever at this position in terms of player skill, but due to Bubba Thumper's continued regression, and what I believe was nobody else passing him up, Nuniq actually went up a spot. Still not exactly a position of strength here, though, and it's not like a ~550 TPE IA is a position of strength to build on one season away from regression. DT2: Nobody -> David Ramczyk, S28 (202 TPE, 33rd among DTs) That being said, they added someone who could be a pretty decent earner and is still active at the DT2 spot. The interior Dline is probably not going to be quite as monstrously bad as last season, although still pretty bad. It'll be about the same strength as Honolulu and Austin. DE1: Etrigan T. Slayer, S25 (535 TPE, 20th among DEs) -> Etrigan T. Slayer, S25 (654 TPE, 19th among DEs) DE2: Maui Waialiki, S27 (326 TPE, 35th among DEs) -> Maui Waialiki, S27 (489 TPE, 23rd among DEs) This group has actually taken quite a large step upwards! While Slayer only passed one player, he gained over 100 TPE and is not too bad in the grand scheme of things. Meanwhile, Waialiki passed a large number of DEs over the course of the last season and has established himself as quite a top quality player from Season 27. As a whole, the line remains weak but should be much stronger than last season's abysmal 160 yards per game given up on the ground. LB1: A. J. Lucas, S26 (478 TPE, 34th among LBs) -> A. J. Lucas, S26 (608 TPE, 32nd among LBs) LB2: Spike Suzuki, S22 (454 TPE, 36th among LBs) -> Chet Larson, S26 (531 TPE, 37th among LBs) LB3: Chet Larson, S26 (354 TPE, 44th among LBs) -> Dexter Jackson, S25 (351 TPE, 45th among LBs) LB4: Dexter Jackson, S25 (329 TPE, 47th among LBs) -> Nobody By the numbers, this unit improved by quite a bit despite losing their 2nd best player. That being said, by comparisons, they didn't actually improve at all. Jackson remains lower than a suite of long since inactive players, and if he earns a bit more he could jump up a couple spots. There still remain a large number of teams with 3 linebackers better than anyone on this team, however. Again, this unit's improvement by absolute numbers should definitely help out in the run game. CB1: Eldrick Avery, S22 (1048 TPE, 7th among CBs) (IA) -> Ben Stackinpaper, S22 (827 TPE, 22nd among CBs) CB2: Ben Stackinpaper, S22 (783 TPE, 14th among CBs) -> Lawrence Miller, S27 (448 TPE, 36th among CBs) CB3: Dermot Lavelle Jr, S16 (395 TPE, 38th among CBs) -> Dermot Lavelle Jr, S16 (282 TPE, 45th among CBs) The previous groups on D showed improvement. This group is still in shambles. Stackinpaper, while he technically has earned a bit since last season, hasn't done anywhere near enough to keep up with the pack and as such fell back 8 spots among CBs. At this point there is at least one team with 3 better CBs, and it's not the team who had 3 CBs over 1000 TPE last season. The Hawks also traded away their best player at the position for picks, and to make up for the empty roster spot brought up a pretty decent 2nd year player. He does, however, remain a 2nd year player and thus isn't all that great in regards to overall quality. And Dermot continues to fall into TPE purgatory, with only 1 CB in the entire league being at a lower TPE level and one true rookie being at a higher level. Last season the Hawks were surprisingly not the worst team in regards to Pass D, but I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up that way this season. S1: IHeart Syracuse, S23 (658 TPE, 21st among S) -> Jeremiah Zelos, S24 (607 TPE, 23rd among S) S2: Tony Yeboah, S25 (619, 26th among S) -> Caven McRae, S26 (490 TPE, 29th among S) Again, quite a significant downgrade in terms of absolute numbers, although this time they technically don't fall down that many spots in terms of absolute positioning. There are 10 teams with 2 better safeties than Zelos, and only the Fire Salamanders don't have a single player better. Combine this position group with their CBs and this could be one of the worst pass defenses in a long time. K: Datsum Phastbawls, S23 (421 TPE, 10th among KRs) (IA) -> Armando Gallaraga, S27 (145 TPE, 18th among Ks) And finally we top off this tank with another downgrade, this one among kickers. Not only is Gallaraga worse than the still-a-free-agent Phastbawls, not only is he worse than every other starting kicker in the league by at least 100 TPE, he is worse than a True Rookie Kicker currently still in the DSFL. Suffice to say, this team is going to challenge the Browns' 1-31 record and if they don't beat it, it'll be a minor miracle. Also you missed that Baltimore traded Mike Karpaasi (740 TPE DE) to Sarasota this past offseason.
