* Week 6 power rankings - tlk742 - 08-10-2017

It’s Christmas come early. I know there are people who wait with bated breath after every game just for the tlk742 hot takes that fulfill the power rankings. And now they wake up, and it’s there. Wow.

For those curious, the Outlaws are #1 on the index power rankings.

A power rating indicates that if two teams face off on neutral ground, the higher power ranking should win, does it hold? It's why we play the game.

One thing to note, there are only two teams that lost at home – Liberty and Legion. Oh how things have changed this week. Kind of.

1. ARI Arizona Outlaws (5-1) ?0
Still at first, but I see this changing really soon. For starts, the Outlaws may boast the best record, they also have played only one game on the road. Their offensive line is stout like their defense, by not letting up a single sack. King Bronko isn’t asked often asked to do too much often and it shows. If that offense that threw up a 50% completion rate and a 2:1 Interception rate appears at home, I wonder how they will do on the road. They’re going to stay at first, but the crown on the kings is starting to look a little wobbly.

2. YKW Yellowknife Wraiths (4-2) ?+2
As #roadtripfromhell continues, the Wraiths went against the hottest team in the league, San Jose. Ethan Hunt’s cats had an offense that was spitting fire all season long and people are wondering if San Jose is legit. Donning the away team jerseys the Yellowknife offense reminded people why #pressuremakesdiamonds and provided the upset of the night. Ricky “The GOAT TE” Maddox got his first touchdown of the regular season and 2 other receivers, Smallwood and Novel (the cornerback) got touchdown passes from Orosz. Garden? Well he didn’t find the end zone, but 108 yards is nothing to scoff at.

3. COL Colorado Yeti (3-3) ?0
I flipped a coin, Yeti won, so here they sit at three. After losing to the Liberty, the Yeti looked to come back hard and strong, and while they put up a great start with the offense but they got gassed as two Outlaw touchdowns ended their dreams of a win in the desert. They just couldn’t get it done on third down, going 3/16. The Yeti are still formidable and Noble put up a game to remember, against an amazing defense. But they can’t let off the gas if they hope to secure home field advantage in the playoffs.

4. BALBaltimore Hawks (4-2) ?+1
Everyone says I’m down on the Hawks, and maybe I am. I am skeptical of them. Here’s why, the Hawks will play close games with just about anyone. If they play the Outlaws, they will play out of their mind good, and make everyone wonder if the Kyubee-Farlane duo is the greatest offensive duo ever created. They host Las Vegas and they will eke out a win. That’s just what they did last night. The consistency on either side of the ball is questionable, and that’s where the problem with the hawks lie. If they can play up to their potential week-in, week-out they can be great. I’ve yet to see them do that.

5. SJS San Jose Sabercats (3-3) ?-2
Well, the offense is still good/great, but the defense is suspect when it hosts the best offense. Here’s the thing, everyone knows the sim gives a huge advantage to the home teams. Yet, getting blown out by Yellowknife at home means that the GMs at San Jose need to rethink things. The San Jose did upgrade by trading with the Legion, but there are still some signs of pressure cracking for the Sabercats. Consider this – San Jose went 1/10 on third down, yet Hunt still threw an amazing game. Maybe the short yard plan just isn’t what they need or want.
Ranker’s note: By the rules I set out of my power rankings, the belief is that two teams face off on even ground that the higher team will win on the rankings. That said, by losing both home and away to the Wraiths, I do not feel that I can rate the Sabercats as a better team than the Wraiths going forward unless there is a drastic roster change this year. That said, I am very open to dispute this, as a sample size of two is pretty much a bad sample size to use. But for now, Wraiths > Sabercats under my rules.

6. OCO Orange County Otters (3-3) ?0
The game was a defensive battle as the Otters went to Philly. Neither QB or RB did much for either team. Boss went full gunslinger and now is tied for most interceptions this season. Congrats. I’ve been saying this all season, and I’ll say it again, the Otters may want to look to another QB in the future, as the interceptions in the hands of any teams that’s not an expansion can be a really big liability and has been a big liability for the sputtering Otters.

7. PHI Philadelphia Liberty(1-5) ?0
The Liberty have potential, but they need to do better than they did against Orange County to show the world up. They’re not a team that’s going to hold the Ultimus this year without a couple of plane crashes, about 7 or 8, but they could be a threat for years to come.

8. LVL Las Vegas Legion (1-5) ?0
Oh god, they’re just so bad. Berc played the best game all season, going 144 yards and 1 touchdown and 1 interception. That’s just awful. Tebow and Long are still a liability, and it’s weird because Long asked me what to do to get more money for TPE, I told him to do a presser. Let’s see if he does. Weal has the second highest number of sacks all season right now. The Legion also looked to trade away players for picks, a stunning reversal of last year’s failed plan.

Who else starts at DE for the Wraiths, other than Spearhead? I know that Teagarden retired, but I don't know who replaced him.

San Jose is clearly the #1 team if games were only the first half.

And we are clearly the #8 team if games were only in the second half.

What's weird is that it was almost the exact opposite in preseason. You guys wold get owned in the first quarter and then dig in hard.
