(S29) Ultimus Week - siddhus - 06-28-2021 Welcome to Ultimus Week for Season 29! You have ten days to complete the Ultimus Week point task, so the deadline will be Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11:59PM EST. Quick Rules:
Choose ONE for 10 TPE. 1. This week will see the S29 Ultimus and Ultimini races begin in earnest. How did each team arrive at the playoffs? Were there any dark horse teams that went unexpectedly far, or any presumptive favorites that fell flat? Who do you think will win the final? If you’re writing this after the finals were decided, were you surprised by the outcome? 2. Tell us about your draft class. Is there anything that makes it special in comparison to other classes? Where did your fellow draftees land, how are they doing? Did anyone turn out to be an unexpected steal of that draft based on what you know today? Do you think anyone in your draft class will become a hall of famer? If you’re new to the league, how do you think your class will do? Where do you think people will get drafted to? 3. For any team, certain players and users have gone above and beyond, shaping the legacy of the franchise. Choose any ISFL or DSFL team and create a Mount Rushmore for that team. Who in your mind are the four most noteworthy figures of the team’s history? Why does each one of your included figures deserve that recognition, and how did each of them make their mark? 4. “Sim gonna sim” is a popular expression in the league. Write about teams that have been graced by the sim gods and had amazing performances despite statistical odds, and/or about teams that were considered favorites but may have dealt with some bad sim luck that hampered their efforts. How much of an impact did it have on their season(s)? 5. The league has a rich and fascinating history, and our perspectives on it differ from person to person. In 800 words or more, describe any significant moment in ISFL or DSFL history, whether you were around for it or not. Describe the context, the significant members, and the events. What exactly made this event so famous (or infamous) and why does it deserve to be remembered? Events might include championship wins, the inducting of players to the hall of fame, or even a league scandal. 6. Write 800 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you. It could be related to statistics, a league issue that you take seriously, or a niche part of history that doesn’t fit neatly into either of the above categories. This must be directly related to the league, so don’t wax 800 words about your team’s participation on a Werewolf server or something. Tier 2: Short Form Tasks (Each must be 400+ words) Choose up to TWO for 5 TPE each. 7. This task is exclusive to non-recreate rookies of the S30 class and later. In 400 words or more, how has your experience been in the league? Who have you met that has made your time here more fun, friendly, and exciting? Have you been satisfied with your player’s early start? What was it like being drafted for the first time? Do you have any comments or suggestions for the entire league that you think should be implemented? 8. With awards season upon us, make up an award for your player win for something not on the football field? 9. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commisioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted? 10. Write a short biography or story about your player. This could include background about how they came to the ISFL and how they’ve done so far, a story about their role in an exciting game, or anything else related to their experience in the league. 11. Write about your team’s biggest rivalry and what makes it so fierce. Is the competition founded in statistics and the team’s recent performance, or is it a rivalry that developed over time during the team’s history that would exist regardless of statistics? 12. Choose a team or player to write about that isn’t your own. What did they do well in the last season? Have they shown any drastic improvements from previous years? What could they do better? 13. Expansion Expansion Expansion! The league seems to love talking about it, but it has still not happened. Tell us why it should happen / should not happen soon? 14. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? Tier 3: Written/Graphics Tasks (Each must be either 200+ words or a graphic) Choose up to FOUR for 2.5 TPE each. 15. Going to Disneyland! Who was the Ultimus Game MVP? Give us a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disneyland. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game) 16. This task is exclusive to recreate/non-recreate rookies of the S30 class and later. The season is over and the draft is coming up. What do you bring to a team, and why should a team choose to take a chance on you next season? 17. Your team has announced that they will be laying ground on a new stadium next season. What additions would you like to see included in it. No graphics option available here. 18. Written option - which teammate of yours is the ultimate team player and why? How does this person exhibit selflessness and put the team first? Are they a great locker room presence who encourages others? Do they play an important but unappreciated role on the team which doesn't receive much recognition for awards? Graphic Option: Create a graphic of your player with your teammate who exhibits a team-friendly attitude. 19. If your player had a show starring them, what would the plot be? Graphic Option: Create the cover art for your player’s show 20. Make a scouting report for any of the ISFL or DSFL draftees. Show their stats, abilities, TPE, or highlights. Written or graphic option available. 21. Now thats three seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16? 22. You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do? 23. Create a billboard, magazine cover, unique trading card, or video game cover depicting a one of the league's stars. 24. If you could create a team using any active players in the league, what would that team look like? Would you build a group of all-stars to contend in the next Ultimus, or a team full of jokesters for the fun of it? Describe the roster and why you chose the players you did. 25. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why? 26. Football is a game that has been going on for a while, loved by fans all over. But what if you were able to make some rule changes? Talk us through your new version of football, and what would be different and why? 27. What team do you think has the best branding in the league? What team do you think could use a refresh? Why? 28. Choose one existing award. Tell us why you think a certain player should win that award this season. Stats, or anything else possible should be used to support your case. 29. Affliate PT from either SHL/PBE. The Weeks must match with the timeframe of this UW, which would mean SHL's PT #2, SMJHL PT #3, and PBE's PT 26-2. Contact your local PPT Team Member if you are confused for any of the prompts or in general need any help with anything! RE: (S29) Ultimus Week - bjkman - 06-28-2021 17. Your team has announced that they will be laying ground on a new stadium next season. What additions would you like to see included in it. No graphics option available here. As much as I love our current stadium... we could always go for an upgrade. The beautiful Sarasota weather should be the first thing you think of when upgrading a stadium, and we're not even thinking about a dome like the Tampa Bay Rays! While it needs to be hurricane and rough weather resistant it also needs to look nice, that's why we will put in high-quality weather-resistant padded seats that will both be comfortable, and durable. Next, we will use the weather to our advantage by using real grass which not every stadium will be able to handle. For consumer amenities, we will have multiple food carts and restaurants/bars with huge TVs to allow fans to enjoy the games from their seats or the bar! We also want bathroom lines to be short so fans don't miss a minute of the action. Large restrooms will be available on every floor at least every two sections, and those who are willing to pay for box seats will have their own private facilities as well. Last but not least, our main attractions, 2 huge aquariums with fresh water and saltwater fish respectively will be on each side of the stadium as a wonderful monument to the ocean creatures where we got our team name. When this new stadium becomes a reality, it will be well worth the wait! Code: 227 Words 19. If your player had a show starring them, what would the plot be? Ofcourse the 79 speed abusing quarterbacks are gone, so thats a plus, but I am still not happy about my own performance at running back and I blame the sim for this. In the old sim even rookies could compete for rboty, and while its not realistic, it would have made it more fun that running was more reliable as it is right now. So currently my player is hardly considered good, despite having nice tpe numbers. I wanted to go for a hall of fame player, but I'm not sure I will get anywhere close to that at the end of my career. Also the traits are supposed to help, but i don't feel that my player becomes 'better' after adding them. It all seems a bit shitty and I rather go back to how it was in '16, where i could just dominate the dsfl and had hoped to be able to continue that in the isfl. Now my HoF chances will decline likely and there's not much I can do about it. So I wish we had stayed at the old version, despite the flaws it had. Now thats three seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16? (2.5 TPE) League wise it's probably a good thing moving to the new sim. Compared to Draft Day Sports Pro Football 16, 21 has more options strategy wise compared to DDSPF16. Although the strategy options and how it's structured is largely down to the work the sim transfer team had put in to transfer over to DDSPF21. There are a few quirks, like players on the depth chart getting snaps and players lining up out of position such as Wide Receiver of the Year front runner Calvin Golladay, but overall it was probably for the best. Home field advantage is less of a factor which is a nice change from the previous sim where getting 40-50% range as the away team was difficult unless you had a really stacked team. Selfishly, I'd probably prefer the old sim purely because the new sim took away opportunities on special teams. We're not seeing the kick return numbers we had in the old sim and as someone who was going after special team records in the return game (career kick return yards, season kick return yards record and career kick return touchdowns), the move to the new sim has effectively ended that pursuit. Additionally, I also play safety so I miss the free safety designation boost from the old sim. Production on the field is kinda meh but it is what it is. Overall, move to the new sim probably better for the league but yeah, selfishly I kinda wish there wasn't a switch. Code: 249 words 23. Tell us why you think a certain player should win that award this season. Stats, or anything else possible should be used to support your case. (2.5 TPE) For Quarterback of the Year I'd probably go with Colby Jack. At the helm of the reigning champions Yellowknife Wraiths, Colby Jack put together a fantastic season and while the Wraiths would narrowly miss out on the playoffs in Season 29, it was certainly not because of Colby Jack who was arguably the benchmark for all quarterbacks. Only two quarterbacks cracked the 5,500 passing yards mark this season, Colby Jack and Mattathias Caliban with Colby edging Caliban by 2 yards for the passing title (5,758 to Caliban's 5,756). Colby managed to put up more yards on less attempts (660 to Caliban's 724 attempts) while throwing 20 more touchdowns (44 to Caliban's 24) and fewer interceptions (13 to Caliban's 14 interceptions). If we look at passer rating you have Nick Kaepercolin, Suleiman Ramza and Mike Boss Jr as the 3 others who managed to finish out the season with over the 100 mark in passer rating. Of those 3, Colby thew more than 1,000 yards more than Ramza, just shy of 1000 yards (994 more to be exact) than Kaepercolin and 874 yards more than Boss Jr. Additionally, Colby had more touchdowns than each of them while having the best completion percentage of the 4 quarterbacks. Colby led the league in passing yards (5,758 yards), completion percentage (66.8%), passing touchdowns (44) and passer rating (108.1). A remarkable season in terms of volume and efficiency, there really isn't another quarterback that can match the numbers put up by Colby Jack this season. Code: 250 words RE: (S29) Ultimus Week - .simo - 06-28-2021 This prompt is one that I am very excited to write about. My first create, Achtfunf, has retired this season so it is the end of the road with me on the Berlin Fire Salamanders. Fuck me though ever since the S25 expansion draft I could not imagine what a great time I would have had on this team and I am so thankful that Dewalt and High took me and I could help to build that team with them and see what it has become today winning 25-7 over the last 2 seasons. I look forward to see how this team continues to go in the future. So obviously I love every person on this team. I could write a few paragraphs on anyone that has played for Berlin really, so it seems a bit hard or mean to single out only four for some praise but here we go anyway. @Dewalt27/@Highhaschdi I am going to talk about these two together but they will still make up two of the four. It also seems like a bit of a cop out picking the two GMs cause of course they are going to be important to the team. These two have been fucken top notch though at creating an amazing team that is both performing on the field and also having a locker room that is a nice place to be around and had a very welcoming feel to it. Right from day one of this franchise these two have been the most inclusive GMs that I have had in any team even to date and I have played under all sorts of GMs across 6 leagues. They were happy right from the start to include anyone that wanted to help and be more than just a player on the team and weren't afraid to put trust in people with jobs around the team which helps everyone feel more apart of the team and wants to be there. When I first created all I wanted to do was be a kicker and I told everyone I was never going to swap and I said similar in the expansion draft. Getting to know these guys though I was more than happy to be able to swap away from kicker to wide receiver cause these two are the best. After being on this team and getting to know them, I would do anything to help them out. They are also around just any time of the day if you have questions or need to chat. Head office choosing these two for a team was a great decision all around. So glad I got to play here and get to know them like I have. @Swanty Swantavius Jones was the very first ISFL draft pick for Berlin and was 1oa in the S25 draft. He has done nothing but live up to the pressure that goes along with that. Right since he was drafted Swanty has been a huge part of the WR and always around to help out putting together things like scouting sheets and the like. One job I also have been doing in the Berlin locker room is tracking stats and records, and Swanty is just a massive part of the Berlin defence always popping up with big games or seasons breaking records. I had not spoken to Swanty before Berlin drafted him but I am so glad we did and I got to know this man cause he truly is one of the best people around. I also love having some people in the GMT kinda time zones in a LR cause they are getting up during my evening so it always makes for some good chats and you get to know them when the LR is a bit more quiet. @Laser Laser I think will be one of the more important picks for Berlin. He is the QB of the future which itself is a massive deal but from day one he came in to the WR and his knowledge of sim leagues and the ISFL in particular has been absolutely huge to have and to be able to talk to someone like that. Given the time he has spent GMing over at OCO there is just so much knowledge on so much in the ISFL and it is just fascinating to talk to about things like FA pitches and just try to take in some of that knowledge. Laser is one of my favourite people I have met in these leagues and I look forward to watching his QB career over the next seasons and see how that works out, just a bit sad I won't be on the team with him. He has been an absolute joy to get to know. Well there we go. Berlin is a younger team so there isn't a huge amount of history to go off yet but I think these 4 people are all huge for the Berlin Fire Salamanders. RE: (S29) Ultimus Week - WildfireMicro - 06-28-2021 Tier 17) With the surprising announcement that the Liberty is getting a new stadium entirely funded by Taco Bell who sponsored the last stadium there are some additions I'd want in it. For one I'd want a large bell in the top row of the stadium that rings whenever the Liberty score a touchdown. I'd also want a hot tub built into the top of the stadium that you can see the field from that is for special ticket holders. On demand cheesesteaks would also be extremely important. I'd also want it to have natural Kentucky Bluegrass and not coloured turf. Another thing I'd want is a huge scoreboard overlooking the stadium. I'd also want statues of Philadelphia Liberty greats such as Sam Torenson outside of the stadium. Maybe also have a Hall of Honor to celebrate those greats as well. Also have an art collection that is full of art from various local artists in the stadium just because. On that note have a large mural done by local artists on the stadium. Oh and have WiFi built into the stadium for those that have limited data in thier phones. Basically I'd want the new Taco Bell Stadium to be one of the best in the ISFL and these improvements would help out a ton towards that goal. Tier 18) There are a lot of team players on the Philadelphia Liberty and I could have selected quite a few of them but if I had to select just one I would definitely select Jimi DeSoto. He is always super friendly in the locker room and I enjoy talking with him whenever I get the opportunity to. He is one of the guys who encourages everyone to stay positive and keep chugging along even in the long rebuild the Liberty are currently going through. He is also a great player on the field even if his stats do not always represent that. While he may sometimes be overshadowed by guys like Gary Goodman he is always trying his best every game and that is all we ask of him. Not that his stats seem to bother him much as he would rather see the team succeed then always get huge stats. I can tell you right now that the Philadelphia Liberty locker room would definitely not feel the same without Jimi. He is the kind of veteran player and presence that this rebuild needed, especially with his knowledge of how Philly used to be. He is always a consistent and welcome presence and I am very happy to be writing about him in here. Tier 25) Tsuyu Asui being a wide receiver was an idea in my head ever since before I created her. I just thought she would make a great one. But if I had to pock a different position for her it would have to be cornerback. She would go from catching touchdowns to intercepting passes and giving those big hit tackles instead of pancakes and I would love to have a player in the defensive side of the ball if wide receiver was not available. It is also the closest defensive equivalent to wide receiver so that helps. If i was still picked by the Philadelphia Liberty in this alternative reality she would be great in the defensive corps alongside Matt Cross and Jimi DeSoto and CJ Sonjack. Though there is a part of me that knows this change could effect where I am drafted. It does help that my previous player was a linebacker that swapped to safety so I have had that itch to return to defense occasionally even though I am happy where I am with wide receiver. Cornerback just seems fun to me and I would love to try ether it or go back to linebacker with my next player. But not safety to be honest because that position frustrates me. This could include background about how they came to the ISFL and how they’ve done so far, a story about their role in an exciting game, or anything else related to their experience in the league. (400Words) Two boys wanting to make it in their sport found each other and became best friends. That's pretty much the short story. But let me give you the about 400 word story. In the little town of Rockhampton a little boy dreamed of playing ISFL. He did all he could to make it the big wide world of the US. Further away from him, still in Queensland, but the capital of the state you would see another boy running drills with the dream of making it big. These two boys often found themselves watching each other when the Queensland cup was on - both offence, so had the opportunity to make notes, both able to watch how they other worked and could find their quirks. Until one day they were both called to represent Queensland in an Australian league. At first it was a stand off, do we become friends? NFL is not that big here in Australia, so we shouldn't make enemies of each other. Instead, they became best friends. Their parents could not ever shut the two up whenever the Staggs had to travel down to Brisbane. When they were asked to play for Queenlsand, they finally had the opportunity to play on the same field, at the same time, passing to each other. Kotoni Staggs in Wide Receiver and Wendell Sailor @.simo as Quarter Back. They just clicked. They had watched each other so often they knew each others next move. They became the power pairing on the field that you could not and did not want to miss. So much so that they represented Australia together on a global level playing other teams around the world. Even scouts did not want to pass up the opportunity of keeping them together. It was so good that they both made it to the US and ended up in the same season 31 draft class. They are going to be rookies together. probably on different teams but their goal is to get to the majors and play together. Keep the dynamic duo going for a long into their career that they can. Who doesn't want as strong as a duo that these two are? Growing up playing together, scouted together, moved over to the US together. Their ultimate goal is to both make it into the Hall of Fame: Sailor and Staggs, the offensive duo that you want on your team scoring for you and not having to defend against. 409 words 16. What do you bring to a team, and why should a team choose to take a chance on you next season? (200 words) Firstly, I hope that GMs are even reading this else I am wasting my time answering the question to this Ultimus task and I may as well type up a huge media piece to showcase why someone should draft me. What do I bring to a team? - I bring enthusiasm, eagerness and completed Updates with all training, activity checks, predictions and point tasks done each week. - I am excited to be in the league. I am already doing what I can do to earn money - to be a max earner and as on top of my TPE class as I can. I have written one media piece, done my wiki and made 2 graphics all to contribute to my bank and TPE. Oh and twitter. I even have an alarm each day to tweet, now that is dedication. Oh and I have a job lined up. - I am not new to Sim leagues. I am over in PBE so I kinda get how they work. Also I am super invested as I am in HO over there. And yes I did reluctantly create here, but once I did, I became all in. - I would like to think that I am fun in a locker room, encouraging and a nice person to have around. I think this about concludes why I would be a good draft pick for your team. 229 words 28. Affiliate PT from either SHL/PBE.
