*Week 7 Game Report - CptGoosar - 08-06-2021 Week 7 Game Review Versus: Tijuana Luchador First Half: For the second week in a row the Pythons lost the toss and were first to take an offensive snap, starting from their own 25-yard line. The drive started off perfectly, with Panda finding Calvin Hobbs on a simple route for a solid 10-yard gain, 1 drive 1 first down. The Luchador rookie, Omni Man was able to force his way through the rock-solid Python O-line to record a 5-year sack, meaning the Pythons were forced to punt their first procession away. A strong 52-yard punt again from the boot of Robot, meant the Luchador’s started their first offensive drive from their own 12-yard line, the Pythons were able to hold and only give up two 1-yard gain. The Pythons were unable to gain any momentum on their second drive, other than a nice rush from Noah Jones for 13-yards. Robot missed the 52-yard FG, only his 2nd of the season, just dropping short but a ½ a meter. The Luchadores had some strong starting field position, 1 yard before the halfway line. Once again, the staple of the Pythons S30 team, their defence held firm allowing only 1-yard in 3 plays, forcing a 2nd punt by the Luchadores, who at this stage had 3-yards of offense. Could the Pythons score the first points of the game? The drive started well with 4 straight passes completed, an ultimately penalty put the Pythons on 3rd & 13 on their own 44-yard line. The dynamic duo of Panda Mckyle & Calvin Hobbes connected for a 54-yard pass, with Calvin being tackled agonisingly close to a TD on the Luchadores 1-yard line. A simple rush by Noah Jones, rushed it in for the TD. The Luchadores again we held to a single rushing yard, some simply fantastic defending by the Pythons so far in the first half. The Pythons picked the ball up after another strong return from the CB The Laz, saw the ball placed on 39-yard line. Again, some nice plays by the rookie QB saw the Pythons gain some quick yardage, then once again the pair of Panda and Calvin combined for a 46-yard TD, getting the TD he deserved from his previous reception. The momentum was now firmly with the Pythons, the Luchadores need a score to stay within connection, though that wasn’t to be with the last play of the quarter, Elliot Hord broke through the middle to record a 7-yard sack. Again, the Pythons defence held and the Luchadores suffered a 4 and out. Out come the Pythons, one play later, the ST is walking out as Panda finds Tay Swizzle for a 42-yard TD, giving the Pythons a 21-point lead. A solid 10 snap drive saw the Luchadores score a TD in return, bringing the game back to a 2-score game. A poor return drive saw the Pythons drop 2 crucial pass, giving the ball straight back to Tijuana with 3:15 left on the clock. Now the pressure was on the Pythons to hold the Luchadores from scoring, and of course they did, another 3 and out, their 3rd of the game. A promising returning Python drive saw them reach the Tijuana 39-yard but were unable to capitalise and score a few more points before the end of the half. Half Time Score: 21 – 7 Second Half: A poor initial start to the half from both teams saw two four and outs by both teams, though it has to be said by defence played well to maintain the pressure on both side of the ball. A strong 48-yard punt by Robot put the Luchadores on the 1-yard line, again taking play of the game, his second is 3 matches. A poor throw by the Tijuana QB allowed Jay Spears to register his first INT of his career and take it for a pick 6, what a moment for the young rookie safety. The Pythons had a strong 28 – 7 lead at this point. A really strategic 12 snap drive by Tijuana capped off by a simple 3-yard rush through the centre for a TD, brought the game back to a 2 score game. No major plays were completed so the Pythons defence could take heart from that. A poor returning drive from a tired looking Pythons offence saw the team drop all 3 of their pass attempts. Out trotted the Pythons defence, looking to inject a little bit of calm into to a hectic 4th quarter, though through some amazing play & skill the Pythons defence were able to force 2 sacks within 3 plays, the rookie Siaosi Multiauaopele scored his second of the season, with Rocco Blade getting his third. At this stage with a touch over 12 mins left in the 4th quarter, the Pythons elected to rest some key player and send out a more youthful team for some valuable experience. A couple more scoreless drives, meant the clock had 5:00 left, Tijuana have the ball on their own 25-yard line, when a sublime pass by their QB to the hand of Crenshaw for a 61-yard completion, though it was looking to be a TD without a last ditch tackle from Go Bama, the ball was placed on the Pythons 13-yard line, a strong showing from the Pythons defence, saw the Tijuana take another 6 drive until they finally scored their 3rd TD of the match. The Luchadores were now within a score with 2:18 on the clock, a strong drive was needed by the Pythons, and that was they were able to do, taking 9 plays to run the clock down and taking a hard fought victory. Results: 28 – 21 Offensive Player of the Week: Calvin Hobbs - WR Defensive Player of the Week: Jay Spears - S (RFG - 965) |
