State of the Locker Room: Norfolk Seawolves

As any new recruit or prospect hopping into the Seawolf locker room will soon learn, I am the old man of the team. Which is ironic, considering that this is my first player. Hououin "Lockdown Except 3rd Down" Kyouma, however, is the longest-tenured Seawolf on the team, being the only surviving member of the S29 class.

In my almost-three seasons at Norfolk, I've come to learn one thing: No matter what faces show up on gameday, whether they're an alum from days past or the waiver pickup that is ready to hit the field for the first time, there is never any heart lost (except me sometimes. I'm competitive). With one week left to go in my third season, Norfolk has absolutely STEAMROLLED to a record of...

7-33-1.

Ouch.

And while Norfolk hasn't been the threatening team on anyone's radar, looking at the newer players coming in and fitting right in to our dysfunctional Seawolf family makes gametime all the more fun, even if that game ends up being a 33-0 blowout at the hands of KCC. I'm not going to sugar-coat it, so many times I've gotten way too hype before a game, only to have every last cubic centimeter of air taken out of my sails, or... uh, wind socks? If submarines have those? Even so, Norfolk is a locker room that will return every week raring to go and filled with more passion for a video about moving dots than I've ever seen in my life.

Are we winners at Norfolk? No. But are we losers? Far from it! I still remember vividly the big moments this year and why I still come back every single week to cheer on our boaty boys with the crew. My joke nowadays is bringing up "the fabled McSix" whenever I can jam it into a conversation. Sconnie snagging it and taking it 89 yards to the house en route to a 48-34 shellacking of the previously undefeated Grey Ducks (they scored one in garbage time. It was 48-27 with under a minute left. Bite me.) is one of the greatest things I've ever been able to bear witness to. As a cornerback, I'd have LOVED to get a pick six like that, but hey, when the LB becomes CB1, that's something to cheer.

And again, when in week 10, with under a minute to go, waiver addition Johnny Patey snags a ball out of the air and takes it to the house (with an exceptional block from French Fries, might I add) to seal the payback win against KCC? Ecstasy in the locker room. These are the kind of moments that got me back into the league after becoming rather uninterested in it halfway through my first season. Each player that we add is immediately a brother or sister that we adore and will cheer on like our lives depend on it.

So yeah, Norfolk is, to be frank, pretty bad at football right now. But with a roster of up-and-coming talents that bring the hype each week and form one of the top-earning locker rooms in the DSFL this year?

I think these boats will be alright.

Awesome read and what sim leagues are all about. If done right.

The games are just such a small part of what keeps me a part of this league. It's almost like the games and our players are just a justification for me to spend so much time interacting with people in Discord. The ISFL is all about community first, and I'm happy to see that Norfolk is keeping that spirit alive.

To the leaders in Norfolk: keep up the good work.
To the leaders in every other LR (DSFL and ISFL): this is the way.

It’s very cramped inside of a submarine, so it’s very important that we all like each other!
