*ISFL Draft Preview - Southie - 08-30-2021

Welcome to my completely inaccurate mock draft for the season thirty ISFL draft.  This mock draft also doesn’t take  into consideration  things like position switches, prior  player connections to each franchise for recreates and  how well each scouting interview went. With that disclaimer out of the way, Here is how I see the first round of the ISFL draft going.

Pick #1 - Baltimore Hawks -  Morpheus Czargyros

This is an interesting pick for a  variety of reasons. The best player available at number in my eyes is  Beniri T’Chawama but since Baltimore already has two high level running backs in Busch Goose and Dante King, It seems unlikely that they will take a  running back with this pick.  Kotoni Staggs could also be taken in this position but Baltimore already took a Wide Receiver  first overall in the season 28 draft and they have two active 700 TPE Wide Receivers. I think the pick here is Morpheus Czargyros. They only have a defensive end on their roster and if you look at their past season, they scored three-hundred and four points while giving up four hundred and thirteen. To me that seems like a  team that needs to improve defensively as opposed to offensively.

Especially because there are several other high level wide receivers available later in the draft.

Pick #2 - San Jose Sabercats -  Wendell Sailor

Monty Jack is in deeper regression then Jamar Lackson though San Jose also lacks a  replacement for Lackson as well. With that said, QB is a much more important position than  RB. .Simo also has a massive bank account  which is a factor some GMs look at. Though it is historically rare for QBs to go this high in the draft.

Pick #3 - Philadelphia Liberty -  Beniri T’Chawama

This is a very interesting draft because the majority of its high level players are offensive as opposed to defensive. That’s worth noting because the ISFL Draft has typically put a  higher premium on defensive players than offensive ones. Of course this could all change with position swaps and the like but on its surface, this draft is a bit hard to protect. I feel like there’s a significant chance that The Liberty takes  Tessie Garciparra with this pick but I also can’t see T’Chawama falling any lower than third. And the Liberty’s backfield isn’t so good that they’d avoid the best player in the draft just because they’re an RB.

It’s worth noting that Pat’s own player is a cornerback so he might have a slight bias towards picking one up with this pick which is why I See Tessie Garcippara as an option here.

Pick #4 - New Orleans Second Line - Kotoni Staggs

The Second Line receiving core is rough and Staggs is the best player available on the board here. This seems like an obvious pick to me but I  could be completely wrong. I often am.

Pick #5 - Chicago Butchers -  Ken Oath

This is where the draft opens to me.  Both of these teams have a lot of needs and so I think they’ll just go with the best player available.  From a non-GM, non-war room perspective, I can’t see a reason not to take Oath here.

Pick #6 - Honolulu Hahalua - Omni Man

Now we’re back on a  very difficult pick. Tessie Garciparra is the best available here but the Hahalua backfield is pretty stacked with Raeni Clarke and Davriel Lavigne.  They’ve also got  a solid quarterback in Joliet Christ Jr. which takes Malcolm  Savage out of the equation.  I think Omni Man is the pick here. The only other name that comes to mind is Amari Springer but that feels like a  bit of a  reach to me even though safety is a  rare position.

Pick #7 - Colorado Yeti -  Tessie Garciaparra

I don’t envy the Yeti GM if they end up in this position. There’s  quite a few  great players on  the board here but they’re all at positions the Yeti already have filled. Maybe the Yeti think about trading down at this point since there’s no need for them to pick someone here but I say they just go with the best player available  and try to figure out a  way to fit them in later.

Pick #8 - Orange County Otters  - Malcolm Savage

Orange County has a history of  excellent quarterbacks and the highest  TPE player available on the board right now is a quarterback. Ramza is in regression and  I don’t believe they have a replacement for him at the moment. They could grab Springer or Wilkins or Czargyros here because their defense is aging but I think QB is the more important position.

Pick #9 - Yellowknife Wraiths - Cedric Wilkins II

This is a tough pick to guess because the Wraiths are essentially in total rebuild mode at the moment. I think they need a cornerback more than they need a linebacker and Wilkins has  a lead on Springer in TPE so I think Wilkins could be the pick here. This is a total tossup. They have enough holes to fill that they could take anyone still on the board at this point.

Pick #10 - Austin Copperheads -  Orpheus Czargyros

They have a  couple thousand TPE linebackers already but they’re all either in or very close to regression whereas they have some young Safeties with 902 and  1248 TPE respectively.

Pick #11 - Berlin Fire Salamanders - Rodka Raskolnikov

They have three young very talented  safeties already so I can’t see them taking Springer here. Their Wide Receiver core is very talented but also a bit on the older side so I could see them picking up Rodka as  a potential  starter for them in the future. They’re also in  a position to  allow players to develop for a  while so I think they take Rodka here.

Pick #12 - New York Silverbacks - Sakeem Webb

Dogwood Maple and  Lawrence Miller have the safety spots locked down for the future in New York so I can’t see them taking Springer but they could use a cornerback so I go  Webb here.

Pick #13 - Arizona Outlaws -  Amari Springer

They definitely need a safety and Springer has fallen a bit in the draft so I think they’ll grab him if he’s still on the board here. I just can’t see him dropping any further than this.

Pick #14 - Sarasota Sailfish - Jaycee Higgins

This is an interesting spot because you now have three straight Coyotes players in order in TPE. Higgins, Smith, and DeCarr Rek.  I’m highly skeptical that they’ll be taken in that order but it is interesting to see.

I don’t have Sconnie McHits  going in the first round  which I feel like is highly unlikely but there are better players available at his position in the first round in my eyes. Sconnie's a great user and  there’s a high chance he’ll end up being the best player in the draft but with the information that we have in front of us now, I’m not sure that he’s worth a first round pick. Carter Knight is another player I could see go in the first round as could DeCarr Rek.
