*A closer look at season records - Kristy95 - 08-18-2017

Disclaimer: This was down after week 11, so before the games tonight, so that will change some of these numbers.

So I decided to take a look at the seasonal records from last year and was curious how many will be broken and honestly, it looks like almost all of the records will be broken in season 2. It is actually really interesting how easily some of the records will be shattered.

Let's take a closer look:

Passing attempts:

Record season 1:

C. Orosz - 457 attempts

Possible record breakers season 2:

M. Boss - on pace for 530 attempts
C. Orosz - on pace for 528 attempts
K. Bronco - on pace for 525 attempts
S. Kyubee - on pace for 524 attempts

As you can see, this record will be shattered, probably by several quarterbacks and with ease.

Passing completions:

Record season 1:

C. Orosz - 264 completions

Possible record breakers season 2:

M. Boss - on pace for 327 completions
C. Orosz - on pace for 319 completions
S. Kyubee - on pace for 308 completions
K. Bronco - on pace for 287 completions

Similar to attempts, completions is another surefire record that will be shattered by several quarterbacks.

Pass completion percentage:

Record season 1:

M. Boss - 59.7%

Possible record breakers season 2:

M. Boss - so far 61.6%
C. Orosz - so far 61.2%
E. Hunt - so far 59.9%

This is a bit closer and not as obvious but chances are either M. Boss or C. Orosz will break this record as well.

Pass interceptions:

Record season 1:

M. Boss - 19

Possible record breakers season 2:

J. Bercovici - on pace for 24
L. Noble - on pace for 19

Bercovici is definitely breaking the record here, another surefire new record.

Passing yards:

Record season 1:

V. Draxel - 2858 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

C. Orosz - on pace for 3610 yards
M. Boss - on pace for 3566 yards
S. Kyubee - on pace for 3365 yards
E. Hunt - on pace for 3085 yards
K. Bronco - on pace for 3004 yards

Passing volume stats are all up across the board and the yard record is another record that will be shattered in season 2.

Passing Touchdowns:

Record season 1:

V. Draxel - 20 touchdowns

Possible record breakers season 2:

K. Bronko - on pace for 26 touchdowns
C. Orosz - on pace for 22 touchdowns
M. Boss - on pace for 21 touchdowns

Bronko should definitely break this record, though this one is closer than some of the other passing records.

Passer rating:

Record season 1:

C. Orosz - 77.6

Possible record breakers season 2:

C. Orosz - so far 83
M. Boss - so far 82

A lot can happen in the last games, but both Orosz and Boss have some advantages over last year's record and one of them ought to hold on to get the record.

Longest Pass:

Record season 1:

V. Draxel - 50 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

K. Bronko - 54 yards
J. Bercovici - 54 yards

The record is already broken, as both Bronko and Bercovici had a longer pass.

Rushing attempts:

Record season 1:

B. Nuck - 277 attempts

Possible record breakers season 2:

D. Farlane - on pace for 361 attempts
J. Duden - on pace for 319 attempts
B. Nuck - on pace for 311 attempts
R. Mackworthy - on pace for 305 attempts

Several people will break this record, but D. Farlane is looking to crush it and stamp a new record into the books.

Rushing yards:

Record season 1:

B. Nuck - 1217 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

D. Farlane - on pace for 1219

This will be extremely close and come down to the wire. I actually think this record will stay.

Rushing touchdowns:

Record season 1:

L. Novel - 6 touchdowns

Possible record breakers season 2:

B. Nuck - on pace for 6 touchdowns

A lot can happen here as well, but it will be close. I predict that someone will tie Novel, but no one will go above it.

Longest run:

Record season 1:

O. Wright - 80 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

B. Nuck - 32 yards

So far no one has even gotten close to the record and it would be a miracle if that changed.

Catches:

Record season 1:

R. Phelps - 84

Possible record breakers season 2:

G. Wright Jr. - on pace for 92
R. Phelps - on pace for 86
M. Jackson - on pace for 84

This could be close, but the tight end Wright has the best chances to break this record.

Receiving yards:

Record season 1:

J. Garden - 1178 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

R. Phelps - on pace for 1383 yards
F. North - on pace for 1248 yards
J. Garden - on pace for 1230 yards

This record ought to be broken, especially by Phelps who is far beyond what he needs to do.

Receiving touchdowns:

Record season 1:

B. Westfield - 8 touchdowns

Possible record breakers season 2:

N. Stormblessed - on pace for 9 touchdowns
M. Jackson - on pace for 8 touchdowns

A lot can happen here. It is likely that someone ends up with 8 touchdowns but it is not a given that this will be broken.

Longest catch:

Record season 1:

N. Stomblessed - 50 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

N. Stormblessed - 54 yards
D. Evans - 54 yards

Another record that was already broken.

Now, for fumbles and fumbles lost there are no easy to find statistics so I will skip those categories.

Interceptions:

Record season 1:

I. Rashad - 10 interceptions

Possible record breakers season 2:

L. Jefferson - on pace for 10 interceptions

This is another close one. Leaning towards the record staying another season.

Interception return yards is another hard to find statistic, so I am skipping it.

Tackles:

Record season 1:

K. Hendrix - 144 tackles

Possible record breakers season 2:

J. Lee - on pace for 144 tackles

Yet another close one, could come down to the last quarter of the season at this point.

Sacks:

Record season 1:

J. Tuck - 16 sacks

Possible record breakers season 2:

J. Tuck - on pace for 21 sacks
M. Ramrio - on pace for 18 sacks
H. Ernston - on pace for 18 sacks

This is another record that will be broken, with Tuck having another monster season.

Forced fumbles:

Record season 1:

L. Shelton - 3 forced fumbles

Possible record breakers season 2:

B. Bjornsson - on pace for 5 forced fumbles
D. Speed - on pace for 4 forced fumbles

Another record that will be broken, Bjornsson has been a beast.

Fumbles recovered:

Record season 1:

H. Ernston - 3 fumbles recovered

Possible record breakers season 2:

A. Asipi - on pace for 3 fumbles recovered

This is a close one and will probably stay another season.

Fumble return yards are another hard to track stat.

Defensive touchdowns:

Record season 1:

J. William - 3 touchdowns

Possible record breakers season 2:

R. Flock - on pace for 5 touchdowns

Flock is breaking this record with an amazing season.

Punt return yards:

Record season 1:

O. Wright - 372 return yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

R. Mackworthy - on pace for 473 return yards

Mackworthy has this record locked down, strong season returning the ball.

Punt return touchdowns:

Record season 1:

D. West - 1 touchdown

Possible record breakers season 2:

R. Mackworthy - 1 touchdown

Probably not going to get another return touchdown, so this record will probably stay.

Longest punt return:

Record season 1:

D. West - 79 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

B. Westfield - 84 yards

Another record that was already broken, Westfield had a great return.

Kickoff return yards:

Record season 1:

M. Smith - 741 return yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

A. Delacour - on pace for 856 return yards
N: Stormblessed - on pace for 796 return yards

Another record that ought to be broken, though I suppose this could go wrong somehow still.

Kickoff return touchdown:

Record season 1:

M. Smith - 1

Possible record breakers season 2:

N. Stormblessed - 1

Similar to the punt return stat, unlikely that there will be another touchdown and the record should stay.

Longest kickoff return:

Record season 1:

M. Smith - 90 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

A. Delacour - 101 yards
L. Novel - 97 yards
N. Stormblessed - 96 yards

The record has been broken several times and Delacour can hope to keep it for a while.

Field goals attempted:

Record season 1:

A. Booter - 34 field goal attempts

Possible record breakers season 2:

T. Turkleton - on pace for 42 field goal attempts
J. Langdon - on pace for 36 field goal attempts

Another record that will be broken.

Field goals made:

Record season 1:

A. Booter - 28 field goals made

Possible record breakers season 2:

T. Turkleton - on pace for 36 field goals made

Turkleton has a fantastic season and will break this record easily.

Longest field goal:

Record season 1:

T. Turkleton - 55 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

T. Turkleton - 57 yards
B. Kicksit - 57 yards
S. Harris - 57 yards

Another record that has already been broken several times.

Extra points attempted:

Record season 1:

A. Nugent - 31 extra points attempted

Possible record breakers season 2:

C. Ronaldo - on pace for 42 extra points attempted
A. Booter - on pace for 33 extra points attempted

Ronaldo will crush this record easily.

Extra points made:

Record season 1:

A. Nugent - 30 extra points made

Possible record breakers season 2:

C. Ronaldo - on pace for 40 extra points made

And Ronaldo will crush this record easily too.

Field goal percentage:

Record season 1:

T. Turkleton - 87.5%

Possible record breakers season 2:

A. Booter - 95% so far
T. Turkleton - 87.9% so far

Booter should be able to get this record, unless something unexpected happens.

Extra point percentage:

Record season 1:

A. Nugent - 96.8%

Possible record breakers season 2:

J. Langdon - 100% so far
S. Harris - 100% so far

Both Langdon and Harris have made every single one so far. One of them probably gets this record.

Punt average:

Record season 1:

J. Darkapple - 45.2 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

S. Harris - 45.9 yards so far
J. Langdon - 45.4 yards so far
I. Blewitt - 45.2 yards so far

This is very close, but since there are three candidates, I think one will get to hold on and get this record.

Punt yards:

Record season 1:

A. Nugent - 5058 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

S. Harris - on pace for 5845 yards
B. Kicksit - on pace for 5832 yards
C. Ronaldo - on pace for 5619 yards

This record will be crushed by several punters.

Longest punt:

Record season 1:

A. Booter - 69 yards

Possible record breakers season 2:

B. Kicksit - 71 yards
C. Ronaldo - 71 yards

Another already broken record.

Tackles for loss:

Record season 1:

J. Spearhead - 20 tackles for loss

Possible record breakers season 2:

J. Tuck - on pace for 18 tackles for loss

This is one of the rare records that will almost certainly stay the same.

Pancakes:

Record season 1:

A. Winchester - 65 pancakes

Possible record breakers season 2:

B. Longshaw - on pace for 80 pancakes
M. Akselen - on pace for 75 pancakes

This record will be crushed by these two, very impressive season.

Sacks allowed:

Record season 1:

Z. Bigboy14 - 12 sacks allowed

Possible record breakers season 2:

D. Robicheaux - on pace for 15 sacks allowed
G. Tech - on pace for 12 sacks allowed
A. Bennett - on pace for 12 sacks allowed

This is another record that will probably be broken.

And now finally a quick summary with how likely a record will be broken:

Passing attempts: 100%
Passing completions: 100%
Pass interceptions: 100%
Passing yards: 100%
Passing touchdowns: 100%
Longest pass: 100%
Rushing attempts: 100%
Receiving yards: 100%
Longest catch: 100%
Sacks: 100%
Forced fumbles: 100%
Defensive touchdowns: 100%
Punt return yards: 100%
Longest punt return: 100%
Kickoff return yards: 100%
Longest kickoff return: 100%
Field goals attempted: 100%
Field goals made: 100%
Longest field goal: 100%
Extra points attempted: 100%
Extra points made: 100%
Punt yards: 100%
Longest punt: 100%
Pancakes: 100%
Sacks allowed: 100%
Pass completion percentage: 95%
Passer rating: 95%
Extra point percentage: 95%
Catches: 95%
Field goal percentage: 85%
Punt average: 50%
Receiving touchdowns: 50%
Rushing yards: 45%
Tackles: 40%
Interceptions: 25%
Rushing touchdowns: 25%
Fumbles recovered: 10%
Longest run: 5%
Kickoff return touchdowns: 5%
Punt return touchdown: 2%
Tackles for loss: 2%

So as we can see, 25 out of 41 records appear to be 100% sure to be broken. A further four have a 95% chance. It is a very record-breaking season.

Annoyed to see the sim index doesn't count pass deflections as a record, you could always check last years index and find out what the highest number was and figure it out thats the record to beat.

It's not on the official records list for some reason. Or did I miss it?
