*Ranking the S3 draft by position: QBs - kcheng686 - 09-01-2017 With S3 starting soon, and the S3 draft coming up fast, lets look at the current Big Board for the S3 draft. This is an weak to average draft for QB, with 2 players that are far and away the best in the class. Quarterback ------------------------------------------------------------------ Tier 1 - Projected Future Franchise QBs 1. Clifford Rove School: Michigan Size: 6'2'' 195 lbs Stats of last year in college: 3814 yards, 31 TDs to 5 Ints, 67.9% completion rate. Scouting Report: Primarily a pocket passer QB, but has passable agility and speed. Possesses an excellent arm, intelligence, and good accuracy for a prospect. Good chance to be the future answer at QB for an QB needy team. Slight frame for a QB. Impressed scouts at UM with his ability to throw the deep ball, and his good decision making. Pro Comparison: Troy Aikman Projected: Top 5. 2. Mark Strike School: Penn State Size: 6'2 221 Stats of last year in college: 2795 passing yards, 24 passing TDs to 6 Ints, 69.2% completion rate. 1023 Rushing Yards, 12 rushing TDs. Scouting Report: Mobile QB. Worse arm and intelligence, but better accuracy and much higher speed. More of a gamble, but could have a higher ceiling. Shorter than the average QB. Pro Comparison: Randall Cunningham Projected: Round 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------ Tier 2 - Project Players 3. Nicholas Pierno School: North Carolina State University Size: 6'1 180 lbs Stats of last year in college: 2334 yards, 19 TDs to 8 Ints, 59.7% completion rate. 1321 rushing yards, 17 rushing TDs. Scouting Report: The most Mobile of all the QBs, possess fantastic speed and agility. Very deadly on the run and as a dual threat. Mediocre arm, intelligence, and accuracy. Pretty raw, but has great potential. Below average height and weight for a QB. If his overall passing ability improves and he bulks up a little, could be a great bargain for a team. I wouldnt pick him over the 2 tier 1 QBs, however. Pro Comparison: Fran Tarkenton if he had played in a modern era Projected: Mid Round. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Tier 3 - Longshots(Inactives) 4. James Baker College: Wyoming Size: 6'5'' 195 Stats of last year in college: 4600 yards, 52 TDs to 15 Ints, 65.7% completion rate. Scouting report: Proto Size for a QB. Impressed GMs and Draftniks by beating up on the Mountain West Conference with his prized combo of arm, intelligence, and accuracy(The holy trio of QB prospect stats). However, outside of those 3 traits, Baker is mediocre at best, and there are questions about his level of competition. Additionally, he has been inactive for nearly a month. Likely will be a decent backup at best, or a starting for a seriously low end team like Legion. However, if he does pan out, he could be the best QB in the draft. Pro Comparison: Tony Romo if he pans out, Chad Henne if he doesn't. Projected: Late Round 5. Quavo Gordon College: Lamar University Size: 6'2'' 220 Stats of last year in college: 1978 yards, 21 TDs to 7 Ints, 61.1% completion rate. 1123 Rushing Yards, 11 rushing TDs. Scouting report: Undersized for a QB. Showcased an above average arm, intelligence, and accuracy for a QB at Louisville. Also showed off his running ability and speed, especially in a performance against a strong FSU team with 131 rushing yards and 3 rushing TDs versus them However, suffers from the Jack of all trades, master of none syndrome. Outside of his speed, he isnt great at any one thing, while his low agility makes him more of a QB who can pick up yards with his feet at times than an actual dual-threat QB. Additionally, has been inactive ever since he created his player. Like Baker, Gordon has big upside and could be great. However, unlike Gordon, Quavo doesnt possess the holy trio of QB stats, and will likely be a DSFL QB for his career. Pro Comparison: Colin Kaepernick without that season where he helped his team to the SB. Projected: Late Round ------------------------------------------------------------------ Overall QB rankings 1. Rove 2. Strike 3. Pierno 4. Baker 5. Gordon I would highly suggest picking Rove or Strike early if you need a QB. Dont be hesitant to grab Pierno if needed, because the QB class drops hard after him. Prospects in the top 20 Big Board Rove Strike. ------------- Next up: RB/FBs Graded Payout=$1,117,000 |
