Ricky Maddox Speaks To The Media - SimmerDownBruhh - 05-25-2017

First off, I'd like to thank you all for helping me live the experience of a lifetime. Last time I felt like this was when more than half of the country wanted to know where I planned on playing football in college. I'd also like to thank my family, friends, coaches and all of the fans of the Dawg Pound! I wouldn't be where I am today without each and every one of you. I feel that in my heart of hearts, I've done everything I could at the collegiate level of football and I am foregoing my senior year to enter the NSFL Draft.

Feel free to ask any questions you choose.

What do your parents do for a living?

Boxers or briefs?

Can you solve a rubix cube?

What was your last dream about?

No name changes, my name is my muhhfckin name.

My dad owns a few car wash/car detail business and he's had them for as long as I can remember. Mi madre is a teacher for Valdosta High, yes, she did make sure I did ALL of my homework. Haha Finished with a 3.85 GPA, which made my case to go to Georgia even easier.

Boxer briefs.

Nope, haven't had any opportunities to use one recently, that and I never knew the strategy to solve it.

Zombie apocalypse type. Had to find a way to survive. Of course I didn't make it, zombie snuck up on me and took me out.

Coke or Pepsi?

Not big on soda, but Coke is the clear choice for me. Sprite is my favorite though. Haha

Is your calendar always on the correct month (or day, if it is a day calendar)?

Always.

Desk: messy or organized?

Very VERY organized. I hate not knowing where things are.

Pet ownership – which is better? Dog or Cat?

I'm a dog guy all of the way, got my Jack Russell Terrier at home named Versace.

Are you always early or terminally late?

I would be lying if I said I was ALWAYS early. But I do make a considerate effort to be early in everything I do.

What will you do to distance yourself from other Tight Ends in the class?

Let the hard work speak for itself. First to practice and last to leave. Championship mentality, I was born for big moments and coming out on top. Same thing for the gym, just keep on improving everyday.

Would you prefer a team that plays a double tight end set more often than not or are you okay competing to be the top guy?

Competition brings out the best in everybody. Although I still believe that I'm the #1 Tight End in this class, I'm willing to do my best with whatever role is given to me.

Do you have a team that you would prefer to play on at this time?

No, I want to go to the team that believes I have the best shot at improving the overall team. A team that believes that a player of my magnitude can place inside and allow me to do what I do best.

What kind of quarterback would you prefer to be throwing to you, a scrambler or a pocket guy?

I always found a way to a QB that knows how to scramble throughout my Football career. Haha But as long as my QB has a drive for success as strong as I do, I don't care how he choose to play or his preference of play style. I want wins and I want championships. However we get it done, I'm with it 100%.

What would be your go-to gameday meal?

I usually eat a solid bowl of spagetti and meatballs or something of the Italian food group. Haha I remember for my last Bowl game at Georgia, my mom brought me a big plate of lasagna and I downed it. Ended the game with two receiving TDs and 115 yards receiving. I think it's my equivalent to the "Secret Stuff" from Space Jam.

Mr. Maddox, exactly how far are you willing to go to destroy the professional career of Stanislaw Maddox? You realize there can only be one true Maddox, correct?

Haha I'll like to see if we end up on the same team. Because a Maddox on both sides of the field has to mean that a championship is in your future. No doubt about it. I haven't had a chance to speak to Stani yet, but I look forward to meeting with him, from what I been hearing, he's a real cool person to be around. And a hell of a Corner.

You have great size, have you considered a professional basketball career?

I've thought about it, but that 82 game season, not including the possible entry into the playoffs is not what I want for my career. I'll still play basketball for fun though.

At which point in your career did you have to switch from WR to TE?

In HS, I played DE, FB, and WR. More of the WR into the Sophomore year, and that's when I grew 4 inches and 40lbs. At that point, I was 6'4 225lbs and my coach offered me the shot to work at the TE position. When I tried it out, it felt like it was a match made in heaven. Grew a couple more inches my Freshman year at Georgia and at that point it was just hitting the playbook and the gym. The hard work led me to this point so I owe it to my coach for helping me "bridge the gap" so to speak.

Why are you the most draft ready TE?

Because my name is my name.
That and I know that a player like me can be in instant plug and play TE for years to come. I've been put in many situations being a TE and there wasn't one time where I felt that I was overwhelmed with the competition placed in front of me. And I already know that I'm trending up for the future. I don't need a NSFL scout's verification for that.

If your team wants you to be more of a blocking TE instead of an offensive threat, how would you respond?

I'd say that as long as I'm in a spot to contribute, I'm gonna give it my all, regardless of my role. You need that catch in the back of the end zone, I'm your guy. I've proved that I can also set the edge for the running back to get out in the open. I do understand that I have to earn everything but that's why I put my name in the draft. To prove that I belong.

What area of your game do you think is in most need of improvement?

I'd say that would have to be adding to my speed, strength and blocking technique. Those are my three main areas of improvement.

What kind of offensive scheme do you think you fit into the best?

I played a Pro-Style offense throughout my time at Georgia. I've been in Spread type schemes in High School, either one of those, I can do to the best of my abilities.

What kind of offensive scheme would be the worst fit?

I think I can go in any scheme and dominate but I haven't been in a West Coast schematic offense so that will be a learning experience. But I'm willing to put the work into any scheme that I'll be placed into.

What is your 1RM for squat, bench, and deadlift?

Bench: 360lbs
Squat: 455lbs
Deadlift: 455lbs

Does pizza make you crave more beer? Or does beer make you crave more pizza?

Beer definitely makes me crave more pizza. Mm.. Pizza. Is there any good pizza spots around here?!

Georgia had some amazing talent come through there, including yourself. Who are some of the people that you looked up to alumni wise?

Starting with some that are currently in the NFL right now, A.J. Green and Matthew Stafford definitely come to mind. A.J. is actually a close friend of mine and he helped me with some of my route running technique. Matt Stafford looks to be hitting the stride that I knew he could hit when he made it to the big league. They are both monsters in their own right on the football field.

Are you related to Stanislaw Maddox?

No relation, but he has the same last name as me, so he has to be Hall of Fame bound.. That's how it works, right? Hall of Fame by Association?

What makes you stand out in regards to the other Tight Ends coming into the draft and where do you rank yourself among them?

As confident as I am, I always put myself over the rest of the competition. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. As far as what makes me stand out, I have the drive and the ability to be a Hall of Famer. Yes, that's both in the NSFL AND the NBA. However, my love is for the game of Football.

As far as what I can do on the football field, if your QB needs a 3rd Down Security Blanket across the middle, I can do that.

FB is injured and you need a key block to get the HB in open space? My services are avalable.

Hell, You want some mismatches? Let's try to put one of these smaller CBs or LBs to guard me in the RedZone. We'll see how high they can jump. Just throw it to the sky and let me go to work.

I'm always asking questions and learning more each day about my opponents and myself. I'm humble but realistically confident in my abilities. I have legs that won't stop moving, a fire that will never be put out and a heart that won't stop beating.

What do you believe is your NFL Counterpart?

I will like to think of myself as a "Slightly taller" Antonio Gates. Gets the job done each and every week, knows how to keep the body ticking in the right direction, we both were MONSTERS on the basketball court. And to top it all off, he has a career that is tailor made for him to end up in Canton. And I plan on following his footsteps.

Do you have a nickname?

My grandmother has been calling me Ricky Ricardo since I was born. She was a huge fan of 'I Love Lucy.' On the football field, they call me 'Math.' Long story short, it's a play on the word 'Mathematics' and the movie 'Mad Max'.

Mad Max.
Mad Maddox.
Mad-de-Maddox.
Mathematics.
Math.

Get it? Got it? Good.

Anything else?

Georgia is a proud program, did you enjoy it there?

Being at Georgia was a wonderful time that I would do ALL over again. Great people, family came to all of my games, met the love of my life here, it's definitely something I will never take for granted.

Did you set any records at Georgia?

Single Season TDs (15 Junior Year)
Single Season Receptions (62 catches in my Junior Year)
Single Game TD Reception Record (4TDs vs Florida my Junior year, most consider my true breakout game)

Career Receiving TD record in School History (35).
Top Ten for Career Receiving Yards in School History (2106 yards)

Ever play with Aaron Murray?

No I haven't. He's come back once or twice to Georgia since he entered the league but I was a Freshman right as he was getting ready to go to the NFL. It's a shame that he broke all of these records and only amounted to a 5th round draft pick in the NFL. Maybe if I was there with him his senior year, I could have brought his stock up more. Maybe make him a mid second round pick? Who knows? Haha

What was your favourite sign in the crowd at a Georgia game?

You can never go wrong with the #DawgPound. Always gets me and the team hyped up!

Any messages to the teams that will potentially draft you?

All I have to say is that wherever I end up, you're gonna get a man who's focused on winning MULTIPLE Titles. As far as I'm concerned, the team that drafts me should automatically book theirselves for the playoffs. Being at Georgia for three years (not including my redshirt freshman year) and not winning a title there lit a fire under me, I took it under myself saying that "I'll be damned if I let more championships pass me by." I would love to do that with the team that drafts me. I understand that it's all a business at the end of it all but that doesn't mean I'll sell myself short. My attitude for winning and my "get better every moment" mindset will always keep me moving and improving for my team. Yes, that expands off of the field as well. I'm willing to help out in any way, shape, or form to keep the chemistry high and to make the team championship caliber. I may be a rookie once this draft is all said and done with but I already consider myself one of the veterans in the NSFL. Can I be a little ahead of myself at times? A little cocky? Sure. But when you're Ricky Maddox, then you'll realize that you was born to be in the NSFL.
