*Looking Back at Season 2 - WinstonKodogo - 09-12-2017 Looking back By Stephen Harris The Trade At the end of Season 1 of the National Simulation Football League there was the announcement from the commissioners of the league that the NSFL would be expanding to 8 teams bringing in a franchise in Philadelphia and in Las Vegas, the Liberty and the Legion. Teams were to protect players and put a certain amount on the block for the expansion draft. Having almost been involved in a trade earlier in the season I knew I would be up for the draft to go to one of these new teams. To my surprise however I awoke to turn on the TV to find out from the media that I had actually been traded to Philadelphia to become the first player ever on their roster. It would have been nice to get a phone call from management or my agent to give me some warning so that I could prepare myself. Quote:"The Philadelphia Liberty have traded an 8th round pick to the Baltimore Hawks in exchange for the rights to Stephen Harris (K/P)" What a one sided trade. I reckon you could have gotten a 4th round pick for me. Great bit of business from Philadelphia and a real slap in the face from Baltimore. Due to this disrespect from Baltimore who I had played my heart out for I signed that contract in a heart beat 3 years, 2 million each year. Not bad for a kid from Edinburgh who just kicks things for a living. The days surrounding the trade was bizarre, I was on the phone contactless with the media about what a historic moment this was, being the first ever player for the franchise and the de facto face of it for the time being. Though I must admit I did find it a bit funny with such an America centric team having their first player be a foreigner. I packed up from my house in Baltimore and wished farewell to my teammates who were as shocked as I was and Larry my neighbour, who still doesn't understand what I do for a living. They were good to me despite what the organisation itself was like. I actually threw down the gauntlet to Turkleton on my way out. "Bet I get a better extra point percentage than you next season" (I did). Myself and my long term girlfriend Myla moved to East Villanova but enjoy travelling to the main part of the city to take in the sites and sounds. I was being stopped in the street for photographs and autographs, I had really been adopted by the city. I saw people wearing the number 6 jersey with my name on it. Who buys my jersey? I'm a kicker jersey sales are for QBs, WR, and RBs. My meals were being discounted at restaurants and drinks were free in cafes. Up till the draft the attention was still there and my game tapes being scrutinised over and over by experts and talking heads. Why would Philadelphia trade for a kicker for their first player why not another position like an OLine man who is like gold dust in this league? Management came to my aid for the first time ever and inflated my ego even more, talking about trading for the number one guy and getting the best kicker and the best punter in the league for a hell of a deal. What a great organisation to be a part of. I truly am thankful to be a part of it and what a steal they got even if I do say so myself. ![]() 605 words *Looking Back at Season 2 - kckolbe - 09-12-2017 You were DEFINITELY a steal. Don't doubt that for a second. |
