Tight End seems to be a bit of a lost art in the NSFL. Obviously some of that is because the sim engine is not entirely beneficial for Tight Ends. Many tight ends are used sparingly, with many short throws being the norm. Tight Ends stand out less than Wide Receivers. And so it seems like Tight End has suffered quite a bit because of that.

Right now, Tight End is going through a lot of problems. Looking at the top Tight Ends in the league, you see various problems in most. The only two solid starting Tight Ends right now are George Wright Jr. and Paul DiMirio. Both are active and have the most TPE at the position.

That last fact is mainly due to the fact that another great Tight End, Ricky Maddox, decided to switch positions to DE. He was by far the best Tight End in statistics, TPE and activity. What happens when you get past those three? You find a mix of other Tight Ends, all inactive, like Rich Gucci, Joseph Tkachuk, Break Bottles and Gabriel Tenzini.

One shining star and hope for the future could be Joseph Askins, a fairly new member of the league, who already has over 100 TPE and has shown activity. Perhaps he can join the active Tight End list.

With the fantasy game being an integral part of football, both here and in the NFL, Tight Ends are often restricted to being valuable as pass catchers. But they are so much more. Tight Ends are good blockers too. And most of the time that part of the game gets underrated. I know my player will never be the best blocker, he will not equal an offensive lineman, but he can still help the team in more ways than just catching the football.

I think in some ways, most GMs would argue that Tight End is one of the least valuable positions in football. You would obviously rate every other offensive position more highly. You would rate Defensive End, Linebacker, Cornerback and Safety above it too. I would argue that the least important ones are Tight End, Defensive Tackle and Punter. Even kicker seems more valuable. But a Tight End does what an offensive lineman does and does what a wide receiver does. He does both, should that not be even more valuable?

I chose Tight End partially because of this. I knew that Tight End was not the most important position and often overlooked here but I still knew Tight Ends were needed and wanted. And the other reason is that I do believe Tight End is an incredibly important position in football in general. It is a beautiful mix of so many of the skills you need in football. Strength, Blocking, Agility, Speed, Catching passes. As a Tight End you have to do it all.

This also means that in this league, updates are always tough choices. Speed seems to be most important by anyone's account, but as a Tight End, you have several important categories to focus on.

I was drafted in the DSFL and have a almost a season worth of time before the NSFL draft. I will be able to have a decent TPE count by that point and hope to show that with activity, I can still be high pick, despite Tight End not being the most important position. I do want to be a good player in this league and show that Tight Ends can be valuable. Wright and DiMirio are already doing it. The Tight End position is destined to become relevant again and is due for a resurgence. Perhaps Joseph Askins, myself and some others can lead to that resurgence.

As if Ricky Maddox needs even more of an ego boost <_<

Very nice analysis, best of luck to you in the DSFL and we should see you as the top picked tight end in the S4 draft!

Very good article about the position, man! I know you're gonna kill it out there in the DSFL.

It can seem like a thankless position at times but I don't regret choosing a TE as my first build here. I just had a bigger calling to get the other side of the field. Now that I sort of showed the standard and raised the bar for the position along with DiMirio and Wright Jr., it's time to see what the rest of the league can do at the position. Would be awesome if we had more that were active long term TEs.

As far as Askins goes, he's gonna be a stud! Can't wait to see how his future holds.

A simple 5 point speed buff would do so much. Sad

In madden 18 the top tight ends have 85 speed, don't see why we can't here too.

I wrote an article about it, but nothing ever happened. Not even a reason why it couldn't happen. It would open up a myriad of builds and more offensive capabilities.
