*Daily Fantasy Advice - Preseason 1&2 - JuOSu - 09-13-2017

@adam2552 has created a daily fantasy game which you can find here:

http://nsfl.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=4453

I think the idea is really fantastic and so I wanted to create a small article with some advice for people that still want to join before tonight. I will say, the pre-season is free and you can win cash prizes so everyone should join!

First off, some general thoughts: The rules are that you have to have three Tier 3 players and can have up to three Tier 1 players. Essentially that means ideally you want to take three of each Tier.

Your first question should be: Where will I take my Tier 3 players, where will I take my Tier 1 players?

In general, some positions are deeper than others. Tight End might not get you many points, but there are only two really solid Tight Ends. Will you risk taking a worse one and fear to lose out on points in order to use a better Tier on a different position?

Kicker and Defense are areas where you might not lose a ton of points, but at the same time it could still be a disaster. Your first instinct may be to use your Tier 1 players all at QB, RB or WR but I believe a balanced tactic could be best. I will say Running Back is the one position where I would shy away from Tier 3, as you definitely want to get a starter in your lineup.

Due to the tier system, some players are clearly steals and undervalued. These are the players you want to use first and foremost. You want to make sure you get someone in a lower tier than where you rate them yourself.

Match-ups are also important. But more on this later.

For now, let's look at players I consider to be steals due to the tier they are in:

QB Logan Noble, Tier 3: Noble plays for the Colorado Yeti, which admittedly don't have the best team. He struggled at times last season and was behind other Quarterbacks in terms of fantasy scoring. The Yeti did however boost their offense, partially in the draft and partially with a trade for Maryan Jackson, who is in the top 5 of TPE for Wide Receiver. Noble himself, is THE number one Quarterback in terms of TPE and even if you doubt his statistics from last year, Noble is a steal as a tier 3 player.

RB Leroy Jenkins, Tier 2: As far as Running Backs are concerned, you want to go with starters. Jenkins is the best of the non-tier 1 running-backs, now in an Orange County Otters backfield that belongs to him much more than last season when he had to split it with Bowers. Jenkins is 2nd among Running Backs in TPE and looks to improve on last year massively.

WR Bradley Westfield, Tier 2: Not much to say here, Westfield is probably the best of the Tier 2 Wide Receiver. He is 3rd in TPE among WRs and while he was behind teammate Phelps (tier 1) last year, one could easily see him become the main target for the Otters this year.

WR Dustin Evans, Tier 2: Dustin Evans is the big winner of the Maryan Jackson trade. Evans suddenly becomes the number 1 receiver for the best team in the league and has made huge strides in TPE as well. Evans should have a huge season.

WR Darren Smallwood, Tier 3: Smallwood plays for a bad team, yes, but he is a very decent Wide Receiver who has made huge improvements over the off-season in TPE, one of the biggest jumps actually. Smallwood is a bargain in tier 3.

WR Trey Willie, Tier 3: This was going to be Matthew Vincent's spot before he unexpectedly retired a couple days ago. Cooper Christmas was the number 1 receiver in Baltimore last year, but his inactivity has given the rookie star wide receiver a chance to shine much quicker than anticipated. Willie enters the season with almost the same TPE as Christmas already and will overtake him very early on. Baltimore will throw a lot and Willie might become the biggest bargain out there.

TE George Wright Jr., Tier 2: There is not much to say about Tight End, but George Wright enters the season as the Tight End with the most points last season and the most TPE out of any Tight End in the league due to the position change of Ricky Maddox (still listed as a tier 1 Tight End here). Therefore, Wright as arguably the best Tight End becomes a bargain as a Tier 2 player.

K Stephen Harris, Tier 3: What Stephen Harris is doing in Tier 3, I will never know. Harris has the most TPE of any Kicker and is on a much improved Liberty team. Harris will far outperform his Tier 3 position and is a great candidate to fill one of those spots.

K Iyah Blewitt, Tier 3: Blewitt was a first round draft picks for the Sabercats. He has improved tremendously in the off-season. His only concern is playing on a bad team that might not score much.

DEF Philadelphia Liberty, Tier 3: With free-agent signing AC Hackett and acquired-through-trade Mark Ramrio, the Librty defense adds two Pro-Bowl talent players to an already stingy defense with one of the best secondaries in the league. While they will not come clear to Arizona, you can expect the Liberty to be the 2nd best defense this season, another bargain at Tier 3.

Finally, looking at match-ups for tonight, here are some suggestions for Week 1 and 2 of the pre-season:

Week 1:

Logan Noble, Tier 3, COL at home versus SJS - He was already in my bargain list above and plays a bad (if improved with Bayley) defense in the Sabercats.

Darlane Farlane, Tier 1, BAL at home versus LVL - Farlane was the running-back with the most touches last year and the most yards. He plays against a bad Legion defense (2nd most points allowed in season 2, lost Ramrio) and with Baltimore presumably being ahead very quickly will be fed the ball 30 times.

Trey Willie, Tier 3, BAL at home versus LVL - The rookie is not the number 1 receiver yet, but expect a blow-out victory here which means Willie could have a touchdown.

Rich Gucci, Tier 3, COL at home versus SJS - Gucci is inactive but still ranks 3rd among Tight Ends in TPE for now. He has a favorable match-up and should have a decent game.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Tier 2, ARI at home versus OCO - Colorado and Baltimore might score too many touchdowns and not enough field goals, so I went with Ronaldo instead who plays at home and will likely be on the winning team in this game, should have plenty of chances to score and comes at a reasonable price.

Colorado Defense, Tier 3, COL at home versus SJS - Against a bad Sabercats team, the Colorado defense is an obvious choice at home.

Yellowknife Defense, Tier 3, YKW at home versus PHI - The Philadelphia Liberty offense will struggle early in the year. They have Fox North and Omar Wright but are starting a rookie Quarterback. At home, Yellowknife is a good price here.

Week 2:

RB Leroy Jenkins, Tier 2, OCO at home versus BAL - Jenkins was already in my list above too. Great starter, against a mediocre defense, at home.

RB Jack Durden, Tier 2, SJS at home versus YKW - There aren't many times where I would play Durden, but at home against a fairly bad defense might be one of them. Durden is another tier 2 Running Back option.

WR Bradley Westfield, Tier 2, OCO at home versus BAL and WR Darren Smallwood, Tier 3, SJS at home versus YKW - Both of those are already on my list above and have a favorable match-up at home in week 2.

TE George Wright Jr., Tier 2, OCO at home versus BAL - Wright is the best tight-end option in general and has a decent match-up.

K Iyah Blewitt, Tier 3, SJS at home versus YKW - Blewitt with a favorable match-up and he is a good kicker for this price.

DEF Philadelphia Liberty, Tier 3, PHI at home versus COL - The Liberty defense will be good and are a tier 3 defense. Home-teams are always good here.

And finally, which teams/players would I stay away from these two weeks:
In week 1, the Orange County Otters play on the road against the best defense in the league, stay away from any Otters there.

In week 2, the Colorado Yeti play on the road against a very good Liberty defense. I would stay away from the Yeti in week 2.

I would be really wary of Jenkins. He is a great RB, but last year he played a lot more FB and the #2 got about the same amount of carries.

Yeah but Bowers was there. Now that Bowers is gone, I see him getting 80-90% of carries.

Bowers was 165 TPE all season (didn't update). Burnsman is already at 118.
