Yellowknife overrated - Yeti underrated? - StevenOSullivan - 09-14-2017
I was just working on my season predictions and was mainly looking through other predictions to get an idea of what I should pick. It seems that the one league is fairly obvious with pretty much everyone predicting an Outlaws - Otters - Sabercats - Legion ranking.
In the other league, things are not as obvious, but I am curious about some of the choices.
Last year, Hawks, Wraiths and Yeti were all tied at 8-6, with the Yeti having the best point differential being 3rd. The Liberty were a few games behind. This season, many predict the Wraiths to win, with the Liberty second. In many cases the Yeti are in last place in user predictions.
I understand the Liberty were an expansion team and got better over time and improved in draft, trades and free agency. Is this also the case for the Wraiths? What makes people pick them over others? To me it seems like the Yeti should be the favorites, having been unlucky last year with their point differential. The Yeti look like the team to beat, yet most people are picking them in last place. It confuses me a bit.
I tried to look into it more. A look at team TPE still has the Yeti and Wraiths on similar levels. The Yeti also won both pre-season games while the Wraiths lost against the Sabercats.
I am very curious to see how this season goes. Maybe I am missing some free agent signing or trade that makes all of this make sense, but I couldn't find anything. If anything it seems like the Wraiths got worse (lost Hackett).
Perhaps someone can clue me in, until then I will predict a Yeti division win!

Liberty are the fastest-improving NSFC team and the Yeti are the slowest. At this point last year, Yeti had the highest team TPE, and are now third in the conference. As for preseason, some teams use it to experiment, and some teams try their best stuff. I would bet that the Yeti were absolutely trying out their best stuff, as they have new GMs wanting to make sure they have it right, while the other teams were probably comfortable enough fooling around.

I'm surprised we won 2 games yesterday. Daybe has been working a lot on the team strategy since he has become our GM and it has paying off.

Losing Hackett was a blow, but it is what it is. The day goes on. The Wraiths on paper either match up or are more dominant on both sides of the ball regardless to all teams in the NSFC and most in the ASFC. Still working on the formula for the Outlaws. Especially on defense. Lol The only thing we need to get a handle on is consistency on offense because our defense is rolling smooth. Once we get that rolling, it's a wrap for this league.

and I'd still argue the problem with the Wraiths lies in their inability to play strong both sides of the game. Cook and Garden got shut down, which made Nuck the only viable option (4.7 YPC tho, wow) and the defense failed to get ideal matchups.
