Customizing Archetypes - kckolbe - 09-23-2017 Okay, I've chatted about wanting to customize builds to give players more distinct feels, but here's something more formal. What if, for a PRICE, you could lower your max in one ability by a certain amount of TPE and put that amount in another? As an example, let's look at Coverage Linebacker, since that's my jam. (MAX: 80) Strength: 50 (MAX: 90) Agility: 65 (MAX: 25) Arm: 1 (MAX: 90) Intelligence: 55 (MAX: 25) Throwing Accuracy: 1 (MAX: 85) Tackling: 55 (MAX: 85) Speed: 65 (MAX: 65) Hands: 35 (MAX: 25) Pass Blocking: 1 (MAX: 25) Run Blocking: 1 (MAX: 100) Endurance: 65 (MAX: 25) Kick Power: 1 (MAX: 25) Kick Accuracy: 1 Right off the bat, we see a few abilities a player would want to lower. Arm, Throwing Accuracy, Pass Blocking, Run Blocking, Kick Power, Kick Accuracy...these have no value to a linebacker. So, in the interest of preventing exploit, let's make those untouchable for LB (and any other defensive player). I would also draw attention to Endurance, which DOES have value to LB, but maybe...less value than many other stats. Also, EVERY player can get to 100 Endurance, and I feel that allowing players to reduce that and build other abilities is overpowering. Let's make that off-limits as well. Since I've started talking about game-breaking, let's talk speed. Speed is VERY important, and I think we all agree that almost every defensive build is better by increasing speed almost as much as possible. So let's LIMIT how much it can be raised. I would suggest by 4 (ranks, not TPE). This will ensure that no archetype leap-frogs or even catches a higher-speed archetype. Closing the distance shouldn't be as significant, after all. So here's our our template looks. Black is fair game, yellow limited, and red untouchable. (MAX: 80) Strength: 50 (MAX: 90) Agility: 65 (MAX: 25) Arm: 1 (MAX: 90) Intelligence: 55 (MAX: 25) Throwing Accuracy: 1 (MAX: 85) Tackling: 55 (MAX: 85) Speed: 65 (MAX: 65) Hands: 35 (MAX: 25) Pass Blocking: 1 (MAX: 25) Run Blocking: 1 (MAX: 100) Endurance: 65 (MAX: 25) Kick Power: 1 (MAX: 25) Kick Accuracy: 1 The proposal is that TPE taken from one ability can be applied to another. So let's see how I would customize this archetype to suit my goals. I envisioned Cushing as a converted DB, so strength and tackling seem like they should be lower. (MAX: 79) Strength: 50 (Max reduced by 5 TPE) (MAX: 90) Agility: 65 (MAX: 25) Arm: 1 (MAX: 90) Intelligence: 55 (MAX: 25) Throwing Accuracy: 1 (MAX: 80) Tackling: 55 (Max reduced by 50 TPE) (MAX: 89) Speed: 65 (Max increased by 40 TPE) (MAX: 71) Hands: 35 (Max increased by 15 TPE) (MAX: 25) Pass Blocking: 1 (MAX: 25) Run Blocking: 1 (MAX: 100) Endurance: 65 (MAX: 25) Kick Power: 1 (MAX: 25) Kick Accuracy: 1 What's left is a faster coverage specialist with higher chance of getting interceptions who struggles to shed blocks and make tackles. @Valtookan and @Deusolis, I'd like to see how you would customize your LBs. Customizing Archetypes - Deusolis - 09-23-2017 (MAX: 75) Strength: 72 (Max reduced 25 TPE) (MAX: 88) Agility: 80 (Max reduced 20 TPE) (MAX: 25) Arm: 1 (MAX: 93) Intelligence: 80 (Max increased 35 TPE) (MAX: 25) Throwing Accuracy: 1 (MAX: 85) Tackling: 80 4/10 (Max reduced 50 TPE) (MAX: 90) Speed: 85 (Max increased 50 TPE) (MAX: 60) Hands: 40 (MAX: 25) Pass Blocking: 5 (MAX: 25) Run Blocking: 5 (MAX: 100) Endurance: 69 Because interceptions are such an inconsistent stat both year-to-year and game-to-game, I'm not all that concerned about increasing my hands. The key component of my build is intelligence, so I'd aim to increase the max on that as much as I realistically could without compromising my build. Basically we're looking at a cerebral center-fielder safety that plays a bit more in the box. I actually considered shifting to one of the safety archetypes but the intelligence caps are awful @kckolbe Customizing Archetypes - kcheng686 - 09-23-2017 I feel like that hurts the skill positions, since they dont have as many stats they can change to 0. Your build is EXACTLY why I tagged you and Val. I knew we'd have different priorities, which is interesting because you and I had very similar concepts. You were more aggressive on strength than I was, which I completely get, but I think I was leaning conservative. The fact that you put nothing into hands is so interesting to me. Speaking of hands, the max for that is 65, not 60. It got changed this offseason. The only issue is that speed would have to be 89, not 90. Still, though, this was really interesting to see. Notice the REASON they were untouchable for LB. That reason wouldn't apply to other positions on offense or ST.
