*best team pt. 3 - youngcricket - 10-09-2017 As you have seen in my past two articles, I am adamant that the Arizona Outlaws have the best defense in the NSFL and that is what makes them so dominant. They have been the strongest team defensively for the past 2 seasons and it is no different this season, in my opinion. I have already touched on the first two levels of defense, but the backend may be just as good as the front two ayers. While the defensive line and linebacker corps are star studded, the defensive backs are much more of a group of guys who do their job damn well. A young group, the defensive backs have been crucial to the team. Allowing 209 passing yards a game, the Outlaws have the best combination of pass rush and defense, and here are the four guys that make it happen in the back end. S Ryan Flock ![]() Arguably the biggest star in the secondary, Ryan Flock has been a mainstay on the Outlaws since the first season. He has been on two championship teams and is a leader for the Arizona Outlaws. As a guy who has been around, he impacts the team off the field as much as he does on the field. But his performance on the field cannot be ignored. Flock has accumulated 45 tackles, 3 sacks, and 3 interceptions, very solid numbers for a safety. He used to run beside Mayran Jackson, but has taken over as the alpha male in the safety group and has performed admirably. While his stats done blow you away, he has consistently prevented the big play and provided exceptional run defense. I have always claimed that Flock is one of the most underrated players in the league and I will continue to stand by that as he gets better and better. The Outlaws will need him to remain steadfast and committed to their vision, but I think he will only get better and soon put up some of the best safety statistics that we have seen in the NSFL. CB Phillipe Carter Carter has been a well renowned player since he entered the league. he was hyped as one of the best cornerbacks before he entered and he has lived up to the hype as type has gone on. A very athletic corner, Carter makes it hard for quarterbacks to find holes on his side and complete passes. He has been compared to Darelle Revis of the NFL, as he is often put on an island and usually does not give up big plays to opposing wide receivers. When he was on the Yeti, he was their lockdown corner and he has come to be the same thing for the Arizona Outlaws. this season he has 50 tackles and 5 interceptions, good for being tied 6th in the league. While he doesn't lead in interceptions, he does lead in pass deflections with 23 on the season. That means that 23 passes thrown his way have been broken up by Carter, a very high number that shows his great ball awareness and the inability of quarterbacks to make plays on him. As a key cog for the Outlaws, it will be interesting to see if he stays past this season or if he is content with his ring and wants to team up with other players. S Allen Davis ![]() Allen Davis is a player that I am extremely biased about because I was all on board with the Outlaws drafting him and I viewed him as one of the best players in his draft class, similar to Luke Luechly. He was a player who had a ton of potential and work ethic, and somebody who laid low. He constantly improved and led, but did so quietly. He had an amazing rookie season last year and was one of the best safeties in the league, due to his incredible ball skills and ability to make the big play when he was called upon. This season he has been able to rack up 46 tackles, force a fumble, and get a sack. He has also gotten 3 interceptions for the Outlaws. With the improved pass rush up front, Davis has not gotten as many opportunities in the back end to make big plays and the Outlaws just have not been on the field for very many plays. With that, he has still made plays when called upon and similar to Flock, I expect him to continue to develop at a very impressive rate. He does what he needs to do to get better and will be given more opportunities as the Outlaws eventually experience some loss of players. I think that Davis is one of the best young safeties int he league and will dominate for years to come. CB Franklin Harris Jr. This rookie has been an absolute stud for the Arizona Outlaws. With his old player, I had wanted him to come to the Outlaws and play with me on defense, but he retired before we even got the chance to recruit him. Since then, he has made a cornerback and has become an absolute star on the big stage. Profiting as a second cornerback and from such a great pass rush, Harris has been given a lot of balls that he can make a play on. He leads the league with 7 interceptions and has also accumulated 17 pass defenses. It is impressive to see these numbers from a player in this league, but especially from a rookie cornerback who doesn't have as much development as other players in the league. He has been dominant on the edges and his development will be interesting, will he continue to intercept balls at an alarming rate or will he slow down and be a one hit wonder? I think he will end up developing into a top flight cornerback and be regarded as a lockdown player for years to come. His performance will start to hinge less on the defensive line and he will turn into a great player on his own merits. GRADED |
