* Philly Sports News - PDXBaller - 10-11-2017 Liberty Narrowly Defeats Yeti at Home By Phil E. Chezestake The Philadelphia Liberty entered week 13 having won 5 of their last 6 games and were looking to win one more at home to clinch the team’s first ever playoff berth in the NSFC. The visiting Colorado Yeti were 2-10 heading into Taco Bell Stadium and this game was considered an easy victory for the Liberty. It was Philadelphia’s game to lose and the Yeti came out in full force to keep the game closer than Liberty fans would have liked. In the first half the Liberty held a 26-10 lead, but the Yeti came back to score 16 points in the 3rd as they held the Liberty to 0 in that quarter. The final moments of this game came down to a final Yeti possession as they turned the ball over on downs around the 1 minute mark. The Liberty won this game, 33-32, due to a missed extra point by the Yeti from their final touchdown. In the end, this game was a nail biter and the Liberty managed to secure their first entrance into the playoffs over the Yellowknife Wraiths. What Went Well? The Liberty defense was the shining light in this game for Philadelphia with most of the Liberty points scored from defensive plays. Vikian Marmeladov had interception for a 59 yard pick six in the first quarter and Tyler Oles had an interception shortly after to put the Liberty at 1st and goal with Omar Wright finishing the drive. Lincoln Jefferson had all the space in the world as he got into scoring action for a 93 yard return after a Yeti kickoff. The defense was firing on all cylinders and racked up stats across the board. Here are some highlight stats: A.C. Hackett: 10 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery Luke Washington: 9 tackles, 1 sack Kristoffer O’Sullivan: 7 tackles, 1 pass deflection Mark Ramrio: 6 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 2 sacks Perry Tucker: 6 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 2 pass deflections Omar Wright put together some great drives as the Liberty offense struggled in the passing game. Wright had 22 attempts for 79 total yards. He kept the sticks moving when quarterback Clifford Rove was besieged by Yeti pressure and couldn’t put together any meaningful plays. Wright gives the Liberty some run versatility in the pass heavy offense and the Liberty ended the game with 104 yards rushing. What Didn’t Go Well? This was the Liberty’s game to lose and they almost did given how poorly the offense played. Across the line, we saw 5 sacks allowed in total as the offensive line struggled to stop the Yeti defense. Colorado power rusher Fuego Wozy got to Rove 5 times throughout the game and stopped any hope of offense on crucial drives. Rove finished the game with 10/25 completions/attempts for 159 yards, 3 interceptions and one of his lowest pass rating games at 35.7. The wide receiver corps had a rough time with Yeti coverage. Only Fox North and Paul DiMirio had more than 1 reception as the Yeti defense deflected 5 passes and caught 3 interceptions. Overall, the Liberty offense was only on the field for a paltry 25 minutes this game and ended with 159 yards passing. ![]() ![]() This week’s Liberty Impact Player of the Game goes to A.C. Hackett (@Deusolis) for his resolute defense against the Yeti. The veteran linebacker filled up the stat sheet this game with an impressive sack and forced fumble/recovery. Liberty fans know him as ‘The Enforcer’ and he was in prime form in week 13. Harris missed an XP as well so I think this game could have gone either way based on our kickers! |
