We have invited a special guest tonight for an interview - a defensive tackle player from Russia Egor Medved! Hello Egor, why don't you tell us a bit about yourself, after all I don't think we very often see players from Russia involved in football?

- Yes. Obviously when I was young my parents immediately entered me into soccer because just of my size. And I did good, I was a very good forward, managed to get almostly all the headers and I was a nightmare for all the defences in my region.

Narrator: Egor indeed was a very good forward in his early ages at Russia. His insane size compared to other youngsters his age made him a clear threat to any team. He quickly changed teams from the smaller St Petersburg ones to larger ones even getting a youth contract at the local powerhouse Zenit. With Egor on your side all you ever needed for your soccer team were good midfielders to pop good crosses to the Russian and he would score many headers. Unfortunately a few issues made him quit his soccer career but his family's move to USA has made him change the sport he plays and looks like it's working out.

But something didn't really work out?

- Puberty. *laughs* I gained even more mass, became lot slower. Despite that I was still a very good target man and nobody could push me around. Another problem soon came though - aggression. Last year back in Russia I was suspended for most of the season.

And what made your family come to USA?

- My father works in the IT and he had a great job offer in Phoenix so he just accepted it and we moved. My mother was an English teacher in Petersburg so she just switched her job title to Russian teacher in Phoenix *laughs*

And you and sports?

- Well I decided to continue to work on my soccer skills. However, the referees here were a lot more stricter so I tried to limit my agression but that just lead to me being fifty percent less effective. My friend Chris whom I played with in the front line asked me why haven't I tried out for an American football team and so I asked my parents.

They didn't like the switch to a sport they don't really know did they?

- Definitely not. And they had heard so many rumours about the injuries that, yeah, I said that I'd play quarterback and lied that it's basically an injury free role and they let me go to a training.

But you're not a quarterback? When did you change your mind?

- In training. Although I could throw the furthest my accuracy was disastrous. The coach said, maybe you can try attacking the quarterback. You should've seen the look on our quarterback's face when I first took up the defensive tackle position. *bursts out laughing*

And your parents?

- I'm an ambitious man and when they saw my fire in eyes that I want to do this they knew they would just have to support me. And so here we are.

Now you're playing for San Antonio Marshalls how do you like it here?

- I got a very early call from one of the GM's who helped me settle here. I really can't wait to go out there and show my abilities to the fans. My parents will be there for the first game as well, it's just a 2 hour flight from Phoenix!

Is there a nickname we should call you?

- My surname in Russian means Bear.
