*Brooks Brothers Presser - PDXBaller - 10-19-2017

The Brooks brothers, Aaron (@cosbornballboy) and Rashaad (@PDXBaller), are here to answer your questions regarding their appointment as the new general managers of the Portland Pythons. They will take over beginning with the DSFL Season 4 draft and have already begun transitioning into their new roles.

Do you have any general coaching theories that you plan to follow? Defense heavy, 4-3 or 3-4, running attack, go after a star QB, lots of blitzing, etc.

We are still looking at what we want to do strategically, but personally, I definitely like the idea of an air raid on offense and praying on defense. If you can't score, you can't win, right? But I digress. We will be looking at strategy later but our only strategy right now is winning.

How do you plan on keeping new players engaged in the DSFL?

I personally am great at keeping an amazing locker room morale, you can ask @HENDRIX, @iamslm22, and @manicmav36 or any other of the Hawks, where I was an assistant scout, and they will tell you I'm a big locker room presence.

What do you think about the Pythons team that you are inheriting?

I honestly haven't seen them in action too much, but I can't wait to see it go down. A few practices under our belt, a good offseason, we should be off and running.

DSFL is about to have a huge draft. Are there any prospects that jump out to you?

We're gonna keep that one on the down low, good sir.

What made you guys want to GM in the DSFL? Why do you think you are qualified?

I want to be a mentor to young guys much the same way @HENDRIX has mentored Ricardo Sandoval. To be that guy they can talk to and be accepting.

Are hot dogs sandwiches?

You're goddamn right they are.

Many high school and college coaches find the transition to the DSFL a much different work environment. How do you plan to maintain this new workload while avoiding burnout, like it's rumored your predecessors did?

My secret is that I don't have a girlfriend nor an adequate social life, so these players are my friends. That's how I'll get through it. I can maintain the workload in class while I blow off homework assignments. Like a boss.

How closely have you been following the DSFL thus far? Are there any players who stuck out to you this year who you're excited to play against or not have to play against in the coming year?

I didn't follow it too much as it's first year wasn't too exciting to me, but Shawn Ariel of the Seawolves was one player I did follow, such a graceful athlete.

What do you consider your biggest strengths and weaknesses?

My biggest strength is my knowledge of the game. Most people see football as a flail around, smack each other sport, but 80% of the game is mental. My biggest weakness? Anything over 6.5 inches.

What happens when the day comes that you've done such a good job here that the two of you get separate offers to GM NSFL teams?

I think we need to focus on the short-term right now. My team's GMs show no sign of backing down @HENDRIX and @Noppadet, so I think we're focusing on the Pythons right now.

Do you have any general coaching theories that you plan to follow? Defense heavy, 4-3 or 3-4, running attack, go after a star QB, lots of blitzing, etc.

Anything is on the table for us. We’ve bounced around a lot of ideas from our experiences in coaching in college and high school, but we know the DSFL is a whole new game. We want to play hard and play fast.

Our general coaching theory is to play to the strengths of our players and give them the best opportunities to shine. We know we only have a limited time to work with them, but we want to do our best to prepare them for the NSFL.

How do you plan on keeping new players engaged in the DSFL?

My brother and I are going to create a locker room atmosphere that will be fun and engaging. We intend on keeping our players motivated to complete training on a weekly basis, but realize the struggles and toil it can take on a player long term. We intend to keep things positive and create a winning environment for our new players to thrive in.

What do you think about the Pythons team that you are inheriting?

We still have a lot of concerns and will need to revamp a great deal of things, but that’s typical of any program you inherit. In college, we encountered similar situations and needed 3 to 4 seasons to iron out our program with guys we hand selected that would work best in our strategy and what we’re trying to do.

DSFL is about to have a huge draft. Are there any prospects that jump out to you?

We’re going to have to keep this one close to the chest since it’s a deep draft with many good prospects. What I can say is that we are in a fortunate position to draft several key players that will work well in our scheme.

What made you guys want to GM in the DSFL? Why do you think you are qualified?

We’ve both been ramping up our involvement in the DSFL and new player outreach. We’ve got the ability to help out young players and we have the desire to become the best GMs we can possibly be.

Are hot dogs sandwiches?

This is where I differ with my brother. They are not sandwiches…you wouldn’t have a sandwich eating contest would you?!?

Many high school and college coaches find the transition to the DSFL a much different work environment. How do you plan to maintain this new workload while avoiding burnout, like it's rumored your predecessors did?

Fortunately we have each other to depend on and spread the workload. Balance is obviously important and if it comes down to us losing games and not helping our players, well I would say we've failed as GMs and that's how it was in high school and college for us. We plan on avoiding burnout by focusing on our guys and keeping our new momentum going.

How closely have you been following the DSFL thus far? Are there any players who stuck out to you this year who you're excited to play against or not have to play against in the coming year?

We haven't been paying close attention, but we are quickly learning and gearing up for next season. We're very impressed with some of the talent in the DSFL, namely Goodson, O'Sullivan, Ishigawa, Medved, and Ariel among many others. We're looking forward to playing against all other teams this upcoming season.

What do you consider your biggest strengths and weaknesses?

I have a detailed and analytical mindset that I'm hoping to bring to the Pythons. I'm working on every minute detail I can from major things such as changing the team branding to revamping the locker room and communication channels.

My biggest weakness is letting small things get to me. It's hard for me to let things go, as Aaron can attest, but I'm working on learning how to recognize my mistakes to move forward.

What happens when the day comes that you've done such a good job here that the two of you get separate offers to GM NSFL teams?

That's too far in the future for me to consider. My place is here in the DSFL and I have the utmost commitment to helping my players become the best they can be.
