In a hard fought victory over their DSFL rivals, the Portland Pythons were victorious in the DSFL Championship having defeated the San Antonio Marshals at home. After an abysmal first season in Portland, the excitement and fanfare over the city’s first football team died abruptly and the organization was hungry for new management. The Brooks brothers took on the daunting challenge of resurrecting one of the worst DSFL teams from its inaugural season and hoped to turn it around as quick as possible.

Starting Pythons Quarterback Jameis Christ[/div]
With former NSFL star, Jameis Christ at the helm, the Pythons finished the DSFL Season with the best record the developmental league had ever seen with an 11-3 record. The team finished the season with the league best in yards (334.6) and passing (246.6). The Pythons had two of the best receiving weapons in John Wachter and Carlito Crush. Together, the pair would become the deadliest offense the DSFL had ever seen with the two of them leading the league in receptions and combining for 1,864 receiving yards.

Starting Pythons Runningback John Goose narrowly dodging a defender[/div]
John Goose provided a rushing attack that would see the Pythons finish 2nd in conference and 4th in the league for rushing offense. Although not an intimidating threat, the Pythons ended up developing a respectable run game with the acquisition of David Turner through a trade with Chicago and ended up running the ball more significantly in the last month of play. This resulted in a 4 game winning streak to close out the season.

In another surprising turn of events, the Pythons developed a reputable defensive presence to everyone’s amazement. The Pythons were thought to have an inferior defense at the beginning of the season and ended it with the league best defense in points held, 3rd in rush defense, and 4th in pass defense. Although the numbers aren’t amazing, the defense tightened up in the last month with the stellar development of strong safety stud Cameron Taylor and the waiver pickup of Norman Bagwell. The return of Andreas Waiters and the procurement of Ottokar Von Gerhardt gave the Pythons a 3 headed monster to run a mean 3-4 defense with Bagwell at the nose.

Carlito Crush – Tight End [/div]
An offensive powerhouse with highly capable hands, granite strength, and superior pancake making abilities, Carlito Crush came into the league with the intention of CRUSHIN’ IT and crushed it he did. Carlito became the primary receiver for the Pythons towards the last third of the season and all through the playoffs due to his strength and size combined with the receiving capabilities of a wide receiver. Crush was one of the most active players in training camp and was a vocal leader in the locker room. He was awarded the Top DSFL TE for Season 2.

John Wachter – Wide Receiver[/div]
The Pythons did not hesitate to draft wide receiver John Wachter with their first round pick and second overall. Wachter showed immense potential early on working hard on getting training in and was very active throughout the preseason of the DSFL. Wachter has exceeded all expectations and emerged as the league’s top wide receiver coming just 129 yards short of the league’s record for receiving yards. Wachter is only a few seasons away from becoming one of the best wide receivers the league has ever seen. He finished the season racking up awards for the DSFL S2 MVP, Most Outstanding Player, and Offensive Player of the Year becoming a Triple Crown champion.

Cameron Taylor – Safety[/div]
With so few picks in the S4 draft, the Pythons really needed to make all their picks count and they succeeded in doing so by drafting Taylor 23rd overall in the 4th round of the DSFL draft. He wasn’t heavily scouted during the preseason, but became one of the best safeties in the DSFL through hard work and determination. Although not an overly vocal member in the locker room, Taylor demonstrated poise under adversity as he became one of the best defensive players the Pythons had ever seen.

60 tck, 1 tfl, 2 forced fumbles, 4 sacks, 1 sfty

Andreas Waiters - Defensive End[/div]
The Pythons were incredibly fortunate to see Waiters come back to the team for another season. As a defensive powerhouse from DSFL Season 1, Waiters returned with more fury than ever becoming the top defensive DSFL player of the season. He ended the season with 7 more sacks than 2nd place sack leader, Ben Benford, and had double the amount of sacks than the 3rd place leaders. Waiters was a key piece in the 3-4 defense and provided enough pass rushing to threaten the best offensive lines.

Norman Bagwell – Defensive Tackle[/div]
The self-proclaimed ‘Bull’ joined the league at in week 11 and hasn’t looked back since. As a waiver wire pick-up, the Pythons were fortunate enough to hold the top spot and Bagwell joined after a close loss to Chicago in Week 10. Bagwell only played 4 regular season games, but provided much needed depth at the defensive line position and the Pythons are hoping he returns to them for another season.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Interview with Draftees[/div]
The Python Press sat down with the 3 draftees in the upcoming NSFL S5 draft and asked them a few questions regarding the season and their futures. Player names are listed by initials.

How does it feel to win the DSFL Championship?
CT: Such a great feeling. It's really nice to put work into something and be able to reap the rewards. My teammates and I put the work in and it paid off. I think you'd have trouble finding 3 more improved DSFL players all on the same team. It is also a great feeling to see others put the work in and be rewarded. The GMs on this team were incredible and they deserve all the championship banner and glory that comes with winning. Lastly, it was very rewarding to prove people wrong. I was passed over in the draft a decent amount (4th round I think?) and most people doubted the Python team at the start of the season. Well, contributing to an 11-3 record and a championship is a great way to prove the critics wrong.

JW: It's the best feeling in the world. You can have all the solo accolades you want, nothing beats the feeling of winning it all as a team. I got lucky to be surrounded by great guys, and winning the championship is something we can always bond over no matter where we go from here.

CC: Winning the DSFL championship is almost indescribable. Being able to meet a new group of guys, install a system, and carry it out is just so hard to do in football. But not only did we do it, we killed it this season. It's my proudest moment to this point.

What factors do you think contributed to the team's success?
CT: Consistency. Both in the locker room and on the field. On the field, we controlled the ball on offense for large portions of the game, and the defense did it's job well enough to give the offense a chance to win every night. In the locker room, the guys were consistent in the updates and progression. We also were very good at being present in watching the games, which builds team camaraderie and lets us all see the strengths and weaknesses in person. Also, cosbornballboy runs a great and inviting locker room.

JW: Mostly coaching, we had a great strategy every week that included vigorous testing. Of course, we had some of the most talented players in the whole league, so that always helps, but we were put in a position to succeed and we got it done.

CC: The factors to our success was simple. We had players who busted their ass for the team and GMs and coaches that busted their ass for the team. Everyone working hard for not only themselves, but each other, was huge.

Who do you think was most fun to have inside the locker room?
CT: As mentioned above, co-GM cosbornballboy runs an awesome locker room. Always fun, always inviting, and he will support his team no matter what. I've had good conversation with all my teammates, but it all stems from the attitude of the locker room set in place by the GMs on day one.

JW: It's pretty much impossible to pick one guy honestly, the whole environment was perfect. Baller is gm of the year, ballboy did a ton for morale, crush is experienced in other leagues and is just a fun dude to have around in general, cdubs was a great late round pick up, good dude to talk to and was more of an x factor than people might realize, and even Jacob was looking really promising if some big life things didn't take place. He seems like a great guy and I hope he sticks around. So lame answer, but everyone, I don't think I'll ever be in an environment like this again.

CC: Everyone had their moments, but having cosborn come in with his crazy energy and fun always lightened the mood.

What teams are you looking forward to meeting with or have you already met with teams after the DSFL playoffs ended?
CT: I've met with half of the teams. Seeing as how this draft is likely going to play out, it's understandable that some teams haven't talked to me yet. The teams that haven't talked to me yet don't have a first rounder pick or they already have a stacked secondary. Most people I've talked to think I'm going first round so I have a pretty good idea of where I'll likely go and one GM said he's taking me first round if I fall to him. It seems the teams I've talked to are enthusiastic about my talents, which is always nice to hear. That being said, I won't name names, I don't want to give away any draft plans.

JW: I've thought of the possibility of going legitimately anywhere and all of it is enticing. Going to a place like LV and being the reason for them having hope or being the face of a franchise would be great. Going to a team that's already extremely successful and being an additional piece to the puzzle is equally alluring. But really, best case scenario for me is going to Baltimore. Playing next to my favorite receiver in the league, for my home town, for a team that's normally a perennial ultimus contender, it doesn't get better than that. That said, I embrace every team in the league and just want to go somewhere and be successful as a team.

CC: I've met with a few teams already. I think people like me. I feel bad listing them because I don't wanna screw up anyone's strategy but I really like who's reached out so far. As for who I was looking forward to meeting? I think I had an interest in San Jose, but I don't think I'll end up there haha.

What advice do you have for new players entering the DSFL?
CT: To the new players:
1) Have fun. At this point, I think most of the DSFL locker rooms are fun places to be. Even if your player isn't doing that well, have fun in the discord chats, watch the streams of the games, and build some camaraderie with team mates and league mates.

2) Get engaged. I know you look at some of the NSFL players with hundreds of TPE and it looks a longs ways off. But I promise, just doing the weekly requirements, you'll easily be above 100 TPE after a few weeks. I can honestly say doing the weekend PT, weekly PT, training, and AC takes 60-90 minutes a week. Maximum. Set some time aside for yourself and just do it and be engaged in your character.

3) Ask questions. Don't know how to format an update page. Ask. Want to know what Head Office does? Ask. Don't know what Discord is? Ask. I was intimidated coming into this league, but I realize now that I could have messaged anyone on the site on my first day and could have gotten a response no problem. Those are my tips but it all starts with tip #1.

JW: Stay active and make friends. This is all for fun. It's rewarding to see your player getting better, so staying active to streamline that is important, but just make sure you're having fun. I made some awesome friendships here, and even though the Sim itself would keep me coming back, the social aspect makes this place my favorite.

CC: The best advice I can give is for new players to come in and work hard. Ignore any outside distractions and focus on yourself and your team. Doing that will help your team gel quicker and it's a lot more fun.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]The Portland Pythons organization wishes these three players the very best of luck as they continue their careers in the NSFL. We are very proud to claim them as former Python members and will sorely miss their presence on the team![/div]

Awesome Article. Did I read that correctly that Bagwell had two sacks in each fucking game of the playoffs? Sounds like someone is going first overall in the DSFL draft :belly: :belly:
