*Week 0 Power Rankings II - tlk742 - 12-30-2017

Preseason is over, so let’s begin.
Preseason is always a weird gauge but let’s see what changed.
Power rankings indicate that if two teams face off with all things neutral, the higher team should win, does that happen? It’s why we play the game.

1. OCO Orange County Otters ?0
The crown is still theirs. The Otters had a convincing display of skill and power that they showed this preseason. The offenses continued to be the high-octane self it is and doesn’t seem to show any signs of stopping. The one big worry I have, were I an Orange County fan, is the defense. It’s not that they cant stop drives as much as turn the ball over, if teams can generate turnovers on Boss, it’s going to be tough to come back from.

2. YKW Yellowknife Wraiths ? +1
If you look at the stat line, the Yellowknife playbook appears to be different than anyone else. Eric Kennedy is the leading reciever not bailey cook, and he’s getting yardage for days. There’s a lot to love about this team, the passes to the RBs are volumetrically great, it’ll be curious to see if any defense can shut it down.

3. PHI Philadelphia Liberty ? +3
There’s a lot to love about this team going into the season. The acquistion of the best WR currently coupled with one of the better linebackers in the league makes this team quite a force on paper. Add that in with Rove finally making the step this team needs and look out world, they could be making the moves that makes this team a real tour de force.

4. SJS San Jose SaberCats ?0
When they were good, they were great and when they were off, they were terrible. This could be a roller coaster season for San Jose. The real concern is adjustments, Kennedy had 3 receiving TDs when Bailey Cook returned to where it all began, and the Sabercats who usually boast a stout defense were helpless in stopping them. The Cats have relied too heavily on turnovers and not enough on stopping yardage, it’s a real cause for concern.

5. BALBaltimore Hawks ?-2
I don’t like the Hawks at 5, because it implies they’re a bad team, which they are not, but something is not clicking. Avon is by TPE a great QB, but his stats don’t reflect it and the defense isn’t able to slow teams down like it could a few years back. I don’t think the Hawks are a bad team, just out of rhtyhm, and they need to get back into rhythm if they plan to compete.

6. COL Colorado Yeti ? +1
Well the trimmed fat has made this team look great. The Yeti have to have pierno make a leap if they plan to make this a 4 win season, but they’re starting to look good. There’s a lot to love about this team, they’re not getting blown out and they’re playing games close. Pierno making the leap is going to be key, he’s shown flashes in the preseason, now he just needs to keep his foot on the gas.

7. ARI Arizona Outlaws ?-2
If you told me at the start of last season that the Outlaws would be treading water come season 5, I’d say you were crazy. But here we are. So why have them below the Yeti? Well Browning is the offense, and I don’t believe he’s going to be great this season, I think long term he will but this team is more or less on par with the legion in terms of contruction. The defense is a shell of its former self and Bronko has no one to throw to. Browning is going to struggle against some of the better CBs. It may be a very long season for Arizona fans.

8. LVL Las Vegas Legion ?0
Not at 6, as promised. Noble is back, and he looks still like the MVP caliber QB that he once was. How long this lasts? Hard to say, but he’s definetly the best QB that the Legion have ever had. The real challenge for the Las Vegas team is going to be figuring out how their runningback by committee system will work, because right now it looks like Savea with a bit of relief.

My unbiased opinion:

Otters
Wraiths/Liberty
Hawks/Cats
Outlaws
Yeti/Legion

Philly's defense is a pro bowl roster.
