*Half Assed Rankings, Predictions and Other Things - AdamS - 01-26-2018

Hi there. This is my first article under the new grading system and I'm excited to do a collection of odds and ends and answer questions no one was asking. Perhaps some league facts. Generally whatever floats my boat as this bourbon kicks in. But I am going to try to make it all entertaining at least. Let's start with a quick overview of my current power rankings. ATTENTION ORANGE COUNTY OTTERS! THIS SECTION INVOLVES YOU!

#1 Is clearly the 10-2 Otters at this point. They don't match up with the Wraiths that well, but the overall body of work puts them above Yellowknife. Just like I said it would in my last power ranking they didn't like. And oh look, it came true and now you're on top of the world. Jiggly is my favorite Otter.

#2 Is a total copout of epic proportions. It's a three way tie between the 8-4 Wraiths, 7-5 Sabercats, and 8-4 Outlaws. Technically my Outlaws have had the most success of the 3 in head to head (to head?) competition but that's mostly due to our insane offense (someone ask Blocksdale who has the best offense for me, thanks). The Cats are better balanced than we are but don't have the high end potential. The Wraiths are stronger but very reliant on momentum for some reason that no one but the programmer probably understands. The difference here is going to come down to whether King Bronko's MVP season carries his team for two more weeks. Which is weird to say because none of these three teams face each other again. It's more like fists shaken from a distance at this point. Insert Monty Python reference here.

#5 tHERE'S NO WAY HE'LL DO IT AGAIN IMMEDIATLEY. YES i WILL. iT'S A TIE. i MEAN, CAN you REALLY MAKE A SOLID ARGUMENT THAT THERE'S A VAST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE hAWKS AND lIBERTY? Umm...that wasn't supposed to be capitalized weird but fuck it. I'm gonna roll with it. Dilly Dilly. The two teams are so close that they're literally separated by 1 point scored AND 1 point given up. Go ahead. Look. I am reasonably confident that at least 60% of you will take my word for it or scroll down to see if anyone confirms it in the responses. it's true though.

#7 The Yeti. I told you all before the season started and during the early parts when everyone tried to pretend the Legion was better. They weren't. They aren't. They might be next season. Either way, the Yeti clearly hold onto their 7th place crown.

#8 The Legion. Where are they really in their rebuild? Well, for starters they're about to get their qb of the future on Borkus Maximus III. I knew his dad. great guy. The offense has solid foundations and is going to get better as they add more skill positions. The defense...is almost literally not capable of getting worse. This team IS improving. Bovo is a great GM. Just wait and see.

Okay..there's the rankings, subject to change with several important matchups taking place tomorrow.

SEGUE! SEGUE! SEGUE!

Let's do some discussing of the matchups I just mentioned. Here's what we have for the various important teams. I say important to denote teams in the playoff hunt, which is 6 out of 8 teams. Let's start with the NSFC, aka the kinda sorta Junior League. Seriously can we talk about realignment as a possibility yet?

Yellowknife finishes out with a nice soft back to back at Colorado and Las Vegas. For as much as they struggled a bit in the back half of the season, this ending pair of games will solidify their spot atop the NSFC. Expect Erik Kennedy to accumulated 35 catches and 6 touchdowns. They're headed to 10-4.

Baltimore gets a W against the Yeti and then finishes the season at home against the Outlaws. A team they beat on the road, but who is surging hard. 8-6 or 7-7 seems about roughly equal likelihood. Will it be enough to get the second playoff spot? Stay tuned for like...three sentences to find out.

Philly is at home against San Jose and Orange County. A much tougher slate. That's not the gamut you want to run when Baltimore has essentially a gimme on their docket. Expect Philly to finish on the outside looking in with 7-7 as their ceiling. As it was foretold. On the bright side, Clifford Rove threw more tds than ints this season.

It's looking like Yellowknife hosts Baltimore in the playoffs. Now let's look at the ASFC, Which is also in a three way playoff race, except the teams have winning records.

Orange County is sitting at 10-2 and is guaranteed a playoff spot. Theoretically they could lose both games against the Outlaws and Liberty and end up in second. That feels a tad unlikely though. Led by Anus Windchesthair....wait no..that's an entirely different player. Any relation? They're gonna take at least one of these games, bar none. Losing home field advantage in the conference and league would be a meltdown of insane proportions. It's about as likely as that thing you think isn't going to happen.

Arizona is in the playoffs with a win or a San Jose loss. So we get the Otters and Hawks both on the road. The high flying, probable record setting offense will have to be in full force in the last two games to give this team the playoff spot that shocked the sim world.

San Jose has never made the playoffs. If they beat the Liberty away and the legion AND the Outlaws lose both games, the Sabercats will finally accomplish this. And then go face a team that just beat them by 40 points. Which is 3 more points than the Cats have scored at any point this season.

It's a high stakes situation where anything can happen. My gut and slight bias says it'll be Arizona visiting Orange County for the second time this year.

Now that we've done that, let's talk about random shit related to each team individually. Why? Why not?

YETI
-Nicholas Pierno currently has NOT passed Mike Boss for most ints thrown all time.
-Only 4 out of the 5 touchdowns that the Yeti have caught were done so while on the Yeti.
-Eidur Gustavsson has actually forced the most fumbles thus far this season.
-Andre Bly Jr is a strong candidate for DROY and will likely edge Terrell Brister for the award.
-The Yeti point differential of roughly -160 is a tremendous improvement from season 4 where the differential was -307. They're also on pace to easily surpass last seasons' 175 points scored. they have 171 with two games remaining.
-The Yeti lead the league in return TDs with 4.

LEGION
-Dustin Evans has already exceeded his career best for receiving yards in a season with two games remaining. His ability to be an elite level threat is a cornerstone the Legion will build on.
-Despite a defense that is clearly inferior to the rest of the league, the Legion lead by far in defensive touchdowns with 6. They are also the highest in TFLs and tied for the lead in PDs and Ints.
-The Legion boast the highest number of successful field goals this season and are 11 of 12 from 40+. More attempts, successes, and a higher percentage than any other team.
-lOGAN nOBLE ACTUALLY HAS THE HGIHEST PASS COMPLETION PERCENTAGE IN THE LEAGUE RIGHT NOW.

HAWKS
-At 3.8 ypc, Owen Taylor is having arguably the best season by a lead runner since season 1.
-Turk Turkleton has the best punt average in the league at 50 yards even.
-With 700+ yards and 8 recieiving tds already, John Wachter has to be the front runner for OROY.

SABERCATS
-Chris Orosz is a bad teammate with no leadership skills according to the sim. Seriously. If character had been turned on, that's what the sim had generated for him. He had a 1 in leadership.
-Darren Smallwood is threatening to break the record of 13 rushing tds in a season. He has 11 with two games remaining.
-tHE sABERCATS ARE THE DRAMA LEADERS IN THE nsfl, HAVING 7 OF THEIR 12 GAMES DECIDED BY A SCORE OR LESS.
-The Sabercats are the only team who has caught less than 10 ints. Also the onyl team who has thrown less than 10 ints.
-The Cats are dead last in tackles by 31. The gap between 7th and 1st in tackles is 28.

aND THAT'S AS FAR AS I GOT BEFORE IT WAS BED TIME. Sayanora.

Yes. Cushing is a season behind me and has a LOT more TPE.

Your power rankings are more like tiers, which make more sense really. But I'd argue that the Wraiths belong in tier 1 with the Otters even though they've had bad luck in sims. I'd also argue that the Hawks and Liberty belong in tier 2 with Cats and Outlaws. Yeti and Legion can bring up the rear.

Are The otters the best team in the league right now, or the best team to ever play in the NSFL?

Really a better question.

*Half Assed Rankings, Predictions and Other Things - AdamS - 01-26-2018

The best legit team, most likely.

Hurtful...At most I say 29 catches and 4 touchdowns

Don't you read? He only gets sacks because his whole team gets a lot of sacks because that makes logic or something...

I was advocating for my guy on that one lol
