*Tbone's DSFL Draft Review! - tbone415 - 02-13-2018

The DSFL draft finished up last night and every team did decently at worst. Here is my personal review of all 4 human teams that drafted!

POR Grade: B
Last year I gave PDX a B- and he made the Ultimini. I hope not to make the same mistake. The Pythons only had one pick this draft, I would consider it sort of smart move because this years draft was not a reddit year, and next years will be. Using one of the picks they traded for Blessed Storm (contract to be paid for by Tijuana, which doesn’t really matter with the removal of the cap). Storm is a decent receiving option although his TPE isn’t where you want it to be (109). Now with the 2nd pick in the 3rd round/9th overall they picked up the QB “Cowboy” Cole McCoy @TrueTexican. I like this pick a lot. Now as of right now he doesn’t have the TPE you would want (59 after his update goes in) but I think he will be active active after the draft. He has already released a nice little media article introducing himself, and with the equipment he get he should quickly play like a pro. Mark my words, McCoy will end up being another one of PDXBaller’s 3rd round gems. I think he will be the second best QB this year at worst behind Penner.

TIJ Grade: B+
Look. I’m just going to start this by saying I in no way hate @datboi (Dae-Jung Jo) for what he did (okay a little bit). But he fucked over the Legion/Second Line because he made a bet with HIMSELF. What a dick move. /rant. Doing that was definitely one of the reasons he fell so far (to pick #16). Along with the fact he didn’t make an update page and is barely even active. I was in the war room (jaskins couldn’t make it) and advised Payton against picking Dae-Jung Jo because of what he did do, but Jaskins wanted to do it anyways which I understand because the only people on the board at that point were 50 TPE anyways and we did need the defensive help this draft. Okay onto the other picks. At #3 overall the Luchadores selected Sam Penner! I will be honest me and Payton were surprised he did not go at #2. Him going at #1OA would have been a stretch because the legendary Mark Strike is returning to KCC and he seems as active as ever. The day of the draft Penner wrote a very long and good media piece discussing the QB’s around the league. He’s active, has an update page and a pretty good build to start. He is the piece the Luchadores need to make that Ultimini they have come so close to for 2 years now (I still cry). With their next pick the Luchadores picked up Ugandan Knuckles at #7. Knuckles is a pristine memer but he isn’t the most reliable guy per se. He only just became kind of active 3 days ago when he did an activity check after being IA for a few weeks. This is exactly the Luchadores style, high risk and higher reward. With the very next pick Tijuana selected… Dustin Demarco!!! I do like this pick as he does seem active. Just needs an update page and to get into our discord please. He’s got an okay build for now but us veterans in the Tijuana discord will help him out with that. Lonnie Rott was the next pick for Tijuana and although he wasn’t to high on other teams boards he does have personal ties to PaytonM34. The last pick I will talk about is Joel Schroeder. He literally just went active as I was writing the last team so I don’t have too much on him. He thinks the league looks fun and I hope I can help mold him into the second best Tijuana CB of all time. Now I will just skip over the rest of the picks because they are IA and don’t really matter in the long run.

SA Grade B
The Marshals loaded up on offense, in an offense heavy draft class. However this doesn’t make it a good thing. They will still have a decent defense with Bastion Barnhardt and Elmarez starring. But as the draftees get more and more TPE they will slowly start to get exposed but of course only time will tell, and I have full confidence in Roly and run_CMC. With the #2 overall pick the San Antonio Marshals selected Alvin Chipmunk a Tight End. Good pick. Active, Updating and soon to be 73 TPE. I am personally surprised they did not go QB here. Wait… what did you say? They picked a QB with the very next pick they had?! At #4? Daybe? A recreate who you know will be active?! That’s right! With the #4 overall pick the Marshals selected Ryan Applehort. Great pick. This soon to be second generation of QB’s (or position switchers) is shaping up to look great! Remember regression sets in soon for S1 guys. Amazing pick at #4. He will be at 80 TPE once updates are in. So far so good for the Marshals. Next up at picks 5 and 6 the Marshals would double up at wide receiver getting their new QB 3 weapons. Footballer Catcherman was the first to go. Amazing name, amazing player (btw you did not go last overall bud!). He does need to step up some of his TPE earning skills (like me) but for now he is a perfect fit. Roly and run_CMC will mold this player into a great one. The next WR to go off the board was Jeff Taven (recruited by yours truly). He’s only been in the league a few days and hasn’t done a PT yet but he’s done an activity check and I think he will one day be a 400+ TPE guy. Active in discord too, that’s always a plus. The Marshals didn’t go and get a single defensive guy so that shows that the GM’s feel their current defense is perfectly fine and can bring them an Ultimini.

KCC Grade B
The Coyotes knew they were getting QB Mark Strike back before the draft, so them obviously taking a QB at #1 quickly became not so obvious. So instead they took a weapon for Strike. Howard Miller was taken with the first overall pick. Great pick, recreate and a new chance for @`BenLongshaw` to actually play a fun position. The Coyotes did not pick again until the 1st pick of the first round and with it they selected Thomas Kane III. This guy is a steal to be honest and I would not have been surprised to see the Marshals take him in the early 2nd instead of doubling up on receivers. I also would not be surprised to see him come out as the best defensive player in this class if he stays active, stays updating and writes some media. The last player they picked was the very, very, very strange Bubba Beau-Boucher. I don’t really know what the plan is here. Perhaps they will use their free position switch? Who knows.

Alright that is it for the draft review!!!

Maybe I’m biased maybe I’m not but I just think the sheer volume of players Tijuana picked will propel them to at least a deep playoff run!

Roast me in the comments if you feel you need to.

No it definitely looks good in Tijuana with the sheer volume of picks. I think your grade isn't off - although I didn't fully get some of the picks, there were a lot that were really good ones too.
