San Jose. Yellowknife. Philadelphia.
My time in the NSFL has been a winding, circuitous path and I’ve had a lot of fun along the way. I remember draft night like it was yesterday, not having a clue where I’d land. I’ll forever be grateful for the Sabercats taking a chance on me and giving me a chance to cut my teeth. We didn’t win many games, but it’s an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. And when I felt like my time in San Jose has run its course, I appreciate the speed with which they let me pursue other ventures. Playing in Yellowknife was equally formative. For starters, I got the chance to play with my friend Bailey Cook, a fact that would have validated the experience all else be damned. But (thankfully) the experience was bigger than Bailey. The locker room in Yellowknife was magical, a group of guys uncommonly devoted to winning football games. It was that the team culture – and borderline unbelievable talent on both sides of the ball – that gave me my first taste of postseason football. But I wanted to be a free agent, so a free agent I became. Unlike some, I relish the feeling of being on the open market, and my very public free agency ultimately led me to the Philadelphia Liberty. I wouldn’t have guessed that I’d end up in Philly, but I’m happy I did. This has been the longest chapter of my career thus far and I’ve had the opportunity to interact with some truly great people. I regret that I didn’t contribute more to the teams’ success, but I hope I was able to help build a winning culture.
But my story does not end in Philly.
After sitting down with my agent and family, I’ve decided that my next chapter will be set in Colorado as a member of the Yeti.
