*DSFL Power Rankings from Siberia! Weeks 4-7 - majesiu - 03-02-2018

Welcome, once again straight from San Antonio in short break before next games, reports Vladimir "Siberian Swatter" Fyodorovich to talk about recent DSFL developments!
Let's get this started, as the last time from the bottom:

6. [Image: UjnS4ae.png] Palm Beach Solar Bears 1-6
Current Streak: L5
Last week position: 4

There is no much hope Palm Beach left it seems. After somewhat promising start in first two games, they are yet to win. Even if defence is able to keep up (not surrendered more than 24 points, less than 18 conceded in 4 of 7 games) offence must step-up if Solar Bears are to turn the tides of the season. Especially their mobile QB Steve Fuller must be more careful with his passes - he has 14 thrown interceptions, most in the league.

5. TIJ Tijuana Luchadores 2-5
Current Streak: L2
Last week position: 6

Tijuana won their first two games in rescheduled week 3-4, which they are very important wins, keeping them alive in the race. Win against Portland was defensive masterpiece, where from 9:13 in first quarter quarter till the end of the game Luchadores didn't allow Pythons to score. Unfortunately defence wasn't able to keep up with Coyotes and Marshals in next wto match days. On positive note Tijuana has strong candidates for Offensive MVP in Sam Penner - QB.

4. NOR Norfolk SeaWolves 3-4
Current Streak: W1
Last week position: 5

SeaWolves are resistant team that is enhanced because they (with exception of second game of the season) win every game after the lose. Problem is they are yet to win in a row. Their defence really struggles with rush offence giving up almost 200 yards per game. That is definitely something they will try to improve in next week games against Solar Bears and Coyotes.

3. POR Portland Pythons 5-2
Current Streak: L1
Last week position: 3

Top 3 is really close both record and performance wise, but because these are Power Rankings recent results took priority. Portland like most of the teams went 2-2, but their loses seems more convincing than wins. Both Tijuana and Kansas City were able to stifle so far potent offence and get their own on the other end. Other teams most likely sniffed Pythons game plan and reacted - will GMs from Portland counterattack in upcoming weeks?

2. SA San Antonio Marshals 5-2
Current Streak: W2
Last week position: 2

Only team that kept it's position from last week. Although they went 0-2 in week 4-5 it was only by difference of field goal in each game and Marshals could've won these games, especially against Seawolves, where despite doubling total yards penalties killed them. They didn't give up though and won defence focused game against Palm Beach and thriller versus Tijuana.

1. KCC Kansas City Coyotes 5-2
Current Streak: W4
Last week position: 3

I don't want to sound like a broken tape, but didn't I say last week that if Coyotes shore up their penalties troubles they will go up? And here we are after perfect 4 games Kansas City finds themselves at the top of the power rankings raking wins also against other two top 3 teams! Their offence is strong and balanced, defence suffocating, who knows how longer this win streak might continue?

Peculiar play(s) from last week:
I plan this to be column about some unusual plays I noticed in last games in DSFL.
Let's start with Marshal offensive defence, as to my little knowledge defensive TDs aren't a common occurrence, so far we had only 4 this season in DSFL (7 throughout full DSFL 5 season, 12 in 4th) and we already have a player with two of these in this season. But why Marshal defence as a whole?
  • In Week 4 Game against Coyotes: TD - Vladimir Fyodorovich 46 yd interception return.
  • In Week 6 Game against Solar Bears: TD - Jason Williams 81 yd interception return. (his second of the season!)
  • In Week 7 Game against Luchadores: TD - Carter Bush 72 yd punt return.(Not exactly defence play, but impressive nonetheless!)
So it seems that San Antonio defence is more effective offence than some teams rushing, at least in terms of Touchdowns!

That's all folks! Hope you enjoy it and see you next week. I'd also welcome ideas for potential columns to add here like this week first peculiar play.

Ah, the "S3 Coyotes" approach.

No ideas for new week yet, so I think I'll go with standard Defensive/Offensive DSFL Player of the match-days in next edition.
