*Mark Grau's Rookie Receiver Outlook | W7&W8 - keanex - 04-27-2018 Hey guys, as promised, back again with a rookie receiver outlook for weeks 7 and 8. We had some huge games this week, though unfortunately not on the statline. Some huge wins, some excellent special teams play, and some dominate defenses. We're here to talk receiving prospects though! Let's do it. Kansas City ![]() Week 7 | Coyotes 44 - Lucharadores 3 4 Receptions on 6 targets with 1 drop, 39 Yards, 1 TD So let's face the facts immediately, the Coyotes stomped the Luchadores. It wasn't even close, it felt like watching a grade school team have to play high schoolers. OUCH. Unfortunately in these types of games wide receivers tend to get hurt on stats. This was an odd case though, one where Arkhan was pretty quiet until the game was far out of hand. The Coyotes dominated the running game and stuck with what was working. I can't blame them. Unfortunately it left Arkhan light on stats. He still managed to pull in a touchdown and have a decent game as a whole. Is Arkhan improving those hands? It's tough to tell because the Coyotes seem to be hitting a great stride in the running game and I wonder how this will affect his performance, and in turn his sample size. Week 8 | Coyotes 27 - Polar Bears 30 4 Receptions on 6 targets with 0 drops, 62 Yards, 2 TDs This is the type of game I want to see out of Arkhan. Not only did he increase his yards per catch, but he had 0 drops and 2 touchdowns in a heartbreaking loss to bring the Coyotes to .500. Arkhan came out strong, showed to be a reliable target, and propelled himself to a commanding league leading 5 touchdowns. This is what the scouts have been talking about and what I've seen him capable of. Unfortunately the Coyotes didn't utilize Arkhan in the 4th quarter and I think that was a mistake by quarterback Mark Strike. He saw great success connecting early on throwing to Arkhan, only to not even look his way in the 4th quarter. What's going on here? You have a wide receiver showing you he's got it. He's showing you that he's reliable, but you bail on the plan and end with a close heartbreaking loss. Outlook Arkhan showed a lot to me the past two weeks. He's clearly working on his hands, and he's showing the NSFL scouts why he deserves to be drafted. If this is the Arkhan we're going to see for the rest of the year then he's a sure-fire pick in the middle of the first. We'll see with a bigger sample size, but right now he's showing heart, determination, and hard work. Tijuana ![]() Week 7 | Lucharadores 3 - Coyotes 44 3 Receptions on 9 targets with 2 drops and an interception, 38 Yards, 0 TDs This was an absolutely ugly game, there is no other way to describe this and all parts were at fault here. Squanch had a very mediocre performance with two drops, but it wasn't just on him. Four balls thrown to him weren't catchable, well one was by the Coyotes. Pennington posted a 36.7 QBR with 3 interceptions. Squanch isn't much to blame here in this beating, he had two drops, but when you lose by 41 points two drops is the least of the team's worries. Does this bother me? Not at all. Pennington was erratic all game and the drops were hardly Squanch's fault. His final statline isn't pretty, but he will bounce back. Also if the rumors are true, Pennington's breath smells and he has a hairy back. Who knows if that's true though. Week 8 | Lucharadores 17 - Pythons 31 2 Receptions on 7 targets with 2 drops and an interception, 26 Yards, 0 TDs Another poor week and we see 2 more drops added to Squanch's statline and another interception thrown when targeted. Pennington had a much better game and found success throwing to Legion as well as others, but could not connect with Squanch. Now last week I can squarely blame on Pennington for the lack of Squanch's production, but this week there were communication errors on routes, and the two drops were 100% on Squanch. Squanch and Pennington really need to spend extra time together and nail their timing of the routes and work out some kinks between the two. Outlook I'm still high on Squanch, he's got a lot of talent and I hold firm on him being an early round 1 pick. Him and Pennington are struggling together. Admittedly the two teams they played are two of the best defenses the DSFL has ever seen, but they need to rise up to the occasion in tough games. Portland ![]() Week 7 | Pythons 37 - Marshals 7 3 Receptions on 9 targets with 4 drops, 34 Yards, 0 TDs Four. That is the number that Macbeth ended up with. No not four receptions. Not four touchdowns. That number is his drops in one week. Almost 50% of his catchable balls were dropped. Macbeth is moving up into a more important role in Portland as the season progresses, he's a very important piece to having a diverse offense. He needs to step up as the Pythons start to think about the playoffs. Four drops. Week 8 | Pythons 31 - Luchadores 17 2 Receptions on 5 targets with 1 drop, 14 Yards, 1 TD While the statline is lean, Macbeth had an important touchdown in the second quarter that pushed the game further out of Tijuana's reach. Macbeth had a much better catch rate and a much lower drop rate. This is good for his confidence and he is starting to build confidence with McCoy in check-down situations. Outlook Tight End is tough and Macbeth is working hard. I see the effort first-hand and it's not for lack of trying. He needs to step up though, and there's only one person who can make that happen and that's himself. Do it man!
