*A Sit Down With DSFL Prospect Marquise Brown - YoungTB - 05-21-2018 Marquise Brown, runningback out of Florida State, will be entering the DSFL draft on Saturday. The prospect has a very interesting life story. Coming from the small town of Pahokee, one of the most poverty-stricken areas in the state of Florida, Brown never had it easy. He had to work hard to be given a chance in the DSFL and if he does well there, the NSFL. We sat down with him to talk about his football journey and future to come. Writer: Marquise, how are you? Marquise: I’m good, I’m good. Very happy to be here and to be able to talk with you. W: That’s great to here. So, the DSFL draft is in 5 days. What will you be doing on draft night? M: Hopefully hearing my name called! *Laughs* But in all seriousness, I’ll be blessed to be with my friends and family. W: That’s awesome. So tell me more about your family, what are they like? M: Yeah. Growing up I was living with my Father and my little brother, Demarcus. My Dad raised us on his own, working two jobs for us to get by. He strived every single day to give us the opportunities to succeed in life. Everyday I strive to be as hard-working and as great as him. W: So you grew up in Pahokee Florida. Tell us more about that. M: Uh… Y’know I feel like growing up in Pahokee was important to the development of my character and how I carry myself. There’s lots of crime, homelessness, poverty… but I feel like that’s made me more of an earner rather than a receiver, you know what I mean? Like I had to get a job at 15 and help feed my younger brothers and sisters. Family has always been important to me and making sure that I make a name for myself and for them has always been my biggest goal in life. Being able to get them out of the hood… that’s what I work for every day. Living in Pahokee, you only got two ways of getting out and being successful; rapping and football. Now I can’t rap for s**t so I had to play ball! *Laughs*. W: Haha. So, Pahokee is largely known as one of the best high school football towns in the nation. Tell us more about that. M: Hell yeah, go Blue Devils baby. But yeah, high school football is huge here. You grow up in Pahokee wanting to be a Blue Devil once you get to high school. Everybody comes out to those games and the bleachers are always packed with students and residents alike. Gamedays are like holidays man. Everybody hyped up in school, the athletes all wearing their jerseys… I feel like it’s a sort of community camaraderie thing… being proud of the Blue Devils and being proud of the city you rep. It truly is amazing. W: Now, focusing on your game. What do you hope to improve on once you enter the DSFL? M: Because of my mentality of always wanting to become better, I don’t think I’ll never not be looking to improve on my play. Even when I make it to the NSFL… I’ll always have something to improve on and work towards. W: This draft class is turning out to be one of the deepest classes in years. What will you do to make yourself stand out? M: Yeah yeah. This draft class is looking great this year and I’m excited to be a part of it. There’s ballers on both offense and defense. But to answer your question, I don’t believe I have to do much. The truth is in the tapes. To put it simply, I believe I’m the best player in this draft, and I think I can elevate an entire team. W: Who and when do you hope to be drafted by? M: I don’t really pay any mind to when I’m drafted. If I’m drafted late, then it just gives me the opportunity to prove some GM’s wrong. As for where I want to go… It doesn’t matter to me. As long as I get the chance to prove myself and show off my abilities, I’ll be happy anywhere. W: Great speaking with you, Marquise. Good luck in the draft! M: Thank you man! It was great talking with you.
