*Viggo Squanch After the Draft - Durden - 05-24-2018 Well, yet another draft has come, and a draft has went. I can guarantee there are some people who are extremely excited, some that are pissed off, and some that are just coasting around. I for one, am excited. It's been no secret that my preferred destination was one of three teams. I'd have been excited to go to the Yellowknife Wraiths, the Baltimore Hawks, or the Arizona Outlaws. The Wraiths have always been a cool team. The color scheme and logo has always been great in my opinion. It would have been nice to join up with slm again, and be in a locker room with Toivo and evry, but ultimately, the Hawks wanted to go defensive in this draft. I'm a bit put off, simply because we had what I considered great talks up until the draft. I thought I was a sure fire fourth pick for them, worthy of their first round selection. Again, I was wrong and they went with a defensive player instead. I think if they were in the 5 spot instead of the 4 spot, I might have been a Hawk. The Yellowknife Wraiths also decided to pass on me, another surprising move to be honest. I thought I had a chance of going there and it just didn't happen that way either. I would've really liked to play with DeathonReddit, SwagSloth and Dangles, but it wasn't meant to be. Again, another team went defensive. And again, they pass on Viggo Squanch. I do have to admit that while I was passed on so many times, it does show (maybe) respect from the GMs who didn't select me. At least when it comes to the Sabercats, the Second Line, and the Liberty. Neither the Sabercats or the Second Line reached out to me. I know San Jose declined to pick me because of my prior tenure there with Jack Durden. I think this is completely irrelevant, but to each their own. I had gotten traded to a team I knew nothing about, and didn't really feel welcomed other than the initial discord invite and welcome message. I initially had zero hard feelings about any of that, but wonder who on San Jose is even thinking back to that time. In the end it doesn't matter, but definitely something that makes me curious. The Second Line passing on me is something that I don't understand. Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset about it as I've been vocal in the past about it, but I don't get it. Was it that I said I was upset they didn't reach out and they respected those wishes, or is there some underlying reason as to why I wasn't brought up in draft conversation. They could be full of wide receivers. I honestly don't know. I don't know who's good, who has what positions filled, etc. And PDXballer and numbers definitely earned my respect by both reaching out to me, and confirming that I did not want to go to Philly. I know they had their eye on B3 for a while, so that's understandable. I was also told that if I was the BPA they were drafting me, hoping I wouldn't hold out. I honestly don't know the answer to that question. Maybe? Might have asked for a trade, or left after my contract expired. I'm unsure of how it would've gone down. People already think I'm a jerk so maybe I play into that, or maybe I destroy their suspicions. Again, no clue. But where DID I end up? The Arizona Outlaws. I'm split on how I feel about this, but mostly excited. I'm a bit hesitant to be happy to be here because it's the first team I was drafted by, and the team that I felt didn't give me a fair shake. But again, that's all in the past. Now I get to share a locker room with run_CMC, roly, Evok, 4D Chess, ADwyer87 and esa77, provided they are all still active. The commentators said last night that, "Durden's the kind of guy who will come in with a chip on his shoulder". You're damn right I am. Only time will tell, but I love to play Nostradamus. First, the easy one. I will be the best pass catcher from my draft year. (Duh. Let's all laugh a bit.) I will by the end of my career be considered one of the top 3 in this draft, and will be a heated discussion when it comes time for people to roll out media and do their re drafts. And the big one. I will be one of the top 5 best receivers this league has seen. I will break some records, chase others, but be in the limelight because of what I do on the field. I will look back at yesterday, look back on draft day and laugh about where I was chosen. I'll think of the Hawks, the Second Line, the Wraiths, and I'll titter about what could've been, but how I am still happy where I am. And then I'll look forward, and keep training, and keep pushing to make them regret their choices even more. I WILL be the talk of the draft, and I will make people wish they hadn't passed on Viggo Squanch. I'm unsure of what will be coming this season. I'm not sure if I'll be in the DSFL for another season and try to help Tijuana bring home the Ultimini, or if I'll be called up during my growth to get the experience in the NSFL. Either way I'll be happy. I'm excited to be a part of the Arizona Outlaws. I come from a long line of Renegades, so it's fitting that I end up here. I'm confident that I'll make an impact where ever I am, and I'm confident that people will regret the decision to not bring Viggo Squanch in. I'm not mad, I'm not bitter. I'm just going to make people understand what they could have had. Thank you Arizona. Let's go dominate. I think you are right about if Baltimore was 5th, it may have played out differently. From the Hawks' perspective, you would be a pick of luxury adding depth to our offense. Instead, we had to select a defensive player that fills an immediate hole in our depth chart. Good luck in Arizona and I look forward to following your career. *Viggo Squanch After the Draft - Roly - 05-24-2018 I think I can speak for Run saying we were both disappointed we didn’t have a R1 this season. We never expected you - a high first pick in our opinion - to drop to us. Very happy we managed to nab you - undoubtedly what will be seen as a steal in no time (if not already). *Viggo Squanch After the Draft - Supersquare04 - 05-24-2018 need more WRs... *Viggo Squanch After the Draft - Durden - 05-24-2018 (05-24-2018, 11:25 AM)ItsJustBarry Wrote:I loved reading this would have excitedly welcomed you to Baltimore. I'm good with my position. (05-24-2018, 11:35 AM)Roly Wrote:I think I can speak for Run saying we were both disappointed we didn’t have a R1 this season. I think it was the combo of 'defense first', and NOLA,SJ, not wanting me, and PHI respecting my wishes. I think it was somewhat planned, somewhat luck. *Viggo Squanch After the Draft - PDXBaller - 05-24-2018 I can't think of a better organization to pick you and I'm glad to see that you'll be playing for 2 of the most respected GMs in the league. *Viggo Squanch After the Draft - DeathOnReddit - 05-24-2018 Im actually in Baltimore now ![]() Arizona will be awesome for you. You're rebuilding, so you gotta stick through the hard times. Run and Roly are awesome, incredible guys. I just ask you to stick through these next few seasons before you guys are awesome again <3 *Viggo Squanch After the Draft - Bzerkap - 05-24-2018 Yea sorry, we had Chad really high, and needed some younger defensive pieces, as ours was very old. Guaranteed to have picked you at 10 if you were there. |
