(S8) - PT 3 - What if - Oles - 06-04-2018

Written: Must include 200 words. A lot of people have changes they'd make to their game if they could. What is something you would change about your player if you could change anything.

In a perfect world Oles stays at CB. His original position of choice, Oles was one of the premier CBs in the NSFL before his sudden switch to QB for the team. The position switch for Oles surprised everyone, the team had been struggling with Rove under center and they had been looking for a new leader on offense, and that’s when Oles stepped up and the team’s fate started to rest on the shoulders of a dude who had been a CB for years. Now, in a perfect world Rove develops like the Liberty expect, and they can keep their top-flight CB in the defensive backfield instead of the offensive backfield. Of course, this would have led to a vastly different scenario for all parties and could have led to Oles leaving for greener pastures if the Liberty continued to struggle to win a title. Having struggled for 2 seasons before making the switch, Oles was frustrated and looking to get back to being a truly elite CB, the season he switched to QB was meant to be the season he bounced back and helped the Liberty defense be the best it could be. In a perfect world Oles is able to redeem himself at CB, but a championship at QB isn’t a bad consolation prize. (217 words)

What if Trey Willie was black? But seriously.....

What if the Head office members listened to the community?

On more than one occasion, we’ve had a ‘Changes’ point task where everyone is supposed to list what they like about the league, what they want to see removed, and what they’d like to see added. We had this task just last season and the way PTs are being regurgitated, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see again in the future. But, what actually happens to those responses. Let’s take a look and some of the responses.

Popular things people requested be added/changed: out of 60+ responses tallied, 3 asked for an automated TPE system. This is a big hurdle and I don’t expect it to be implemented anytime soon but got multiple votes. Next, people requested some general rule changes including better worded rules and rules against position swaps (this one was popular too). Then there requests for some form of salary/contract changes. A change in some manner towards this was echoed 13 separate times which was over 20% of the responses. Other responses included bring back live commentary, a better forum in general, more ways for rookies to earn TPE, and then a couple of my personal favorites, more mass retirements and a better @iamslm22 (This one may be harder than automated TPE system).

Damn, I’ve already hit my 200 words so I will just jot down a couple of the popular/my favorite responses from Removed and Currently Liked categories.

Things that should be removed: 5 say DL, 1 said remove idea of DL bots, many hated the NCT (4), 7 said to remove position swaps, 4 said remove current contract system. In response to that, there was 1 vote to remove people complaining about current salary structure and 1 vote against the primary use of Discord. Other favorites to be removed: the Yeti, the Hawks, the tampering rule, @DeathOnReddit , all gfx graders not named @tlk742 , and PTs.

Real quick, here’s a summary of responses when asked was currently liked: HENDRIX (RIP), @bovovovo , the community in general got 26 votes, @White Cornerback got a vote (somehow), and to no surprise, the live streams had around 10 votes.

If there's something that I would change about my game, it would be my speed and vertical.

In terms of my speed, it's two-fold really. It's not that I'm not fast, but sometimes you envy the guy who is so explosive that they leave people in their dust. I break away from my defenders mostly because I catch the ball in traffic and strong arm them off me. Having some more potent speed would really help with my explosiveness off the line of scrimmage. Outside of that, having the break away speed to just flat out out run a defender would definitely be something advantageous.

Another thing that would benefit me is having a higher vertical. My best attribute is catching any ball thrown to me so it's not really about catching it. Having the vertical would help me hit the high point before my defender and have my own space to catch the ball without having his hand there. Right now it would be both of our hands near the ball, but if I could climb the ladder a little higher, I could give the QB an option to throw it a little higher where only I could reach. It's something that could be beneficial in the red zone for sure.

So those are the two things that I would like to have, but not having them won't limit my game at all. It would just make me that much more unstoppable.

What if Paul DiMirio was a QB?

I hate to say it but I don't think there's a whole lot I'd change if I could go back and do it again. I guess I'd like to think what Angus Winchester would have looked like had he played his entire career at linebacker and didn't spend the first 3 seasons as an offensive lineman. I'd like to think that under those circumstances Angus Winchester would currently lead the league in career sacks and be in the top 5 in career tackles.

It's not that I'm really upset by my first couple of years at offensive line. I actually am really proud of how well I did there. Rather I would be interested to see an apples-to-apples comparison of Angus' career compared to the career of all the other S1 front 7 guys like Miller, Tuck, Ernston, or Hendrix and see if Angus could have been just as good as them when applied for his 7 seasons. With his play starting to regress and this season off to a slow start you begin to wonder if Winchester's elite years of play are behind him and he is just an average player now. Here's hoping 3 elite seasons is enough to make the hall of fame without those first three.

When Marquise Brown was asked “What aspect of your game would you change?”, he thought for a second. There wasn’t much he couldn’t do in terms of offensive ability. Brown is able to beat almost any player in the DSFL in a straightaway with his magnificent speed, his agility gives him the ability to bob and weave through defenses like they weren’t even there, and his heart and mentality is something to envy. Brown however, laughed and eventually replied. “I wish I was able to go up and grab that sucker. I wanna Moss some guys!”

Imagine that, tiny 5’10 Marquise Brown leaping up and snatching the ball away from defenders, musclining them out of an interception. Believe it or not, Brown switched to receiver during his sophomore year in high school, well, for part of it at least. On one November night, Junior WR Myles Owataje fell hard on a play and ended up breaking part of his ribcage. The injury unfortunately kept him out for the rest of the season, and the team was short on liable receivers. That’s where Brown came in. Subbing in as a dual HB/WR hybrid, you either saw Brown in the backfield or on the line of scrimmage. Brown surprisingly did well, posting up 2 TDs and 526 recieving yards in 5 games while also racking up 1000 rushing yards. Could Brown be a receiver in the DSFL today? Probably not, but he’s a talented recieving threat out of the backfield... and we all know what happens when you give “Touchdown Brown” some room on any play.

If there was a change I would make to my game, it would be to increase my speed. Back in high school, I was a speed demon playing attacking midfield on the varsity soccer team, but after my catastrophic knee injury nothing has ever been the same. The speed I had was a game changer - no one would expect the fake field goals and fake punts until it hit them, and I would use my speed and elusiveness to get the first down, and sometimes even a touchdown! There was one time we were down to Maryland in a close game and we pulled off the fake punt with 3 minutes to go, and it proved to be the pivotal moment as we went down the field to score.

I know that we don't do any fake kicks in the league right now, but if I had my old speed back the Yeti would have a versatile secret weapon to pull out right when the moment is needed. Sometimes you just need that spark that a fake kick conversion brings you as well as the whole team, and I think that would help the Yeti win quite a few more games this season.

In general I am very happy with my player. I enjoy the decisions I made. I think overall, some of the changes I'd make are changes that are not really possible. I would have love to have better hands and get a few more interceptions here and there. Maybe one or two would lead to a touchdown, to have a bigger impact on the game. Another change is that I would move to middle linebacker rather than playing on the side. I love tackles and I would love to get a few more every game. I also think my next player will be a player on offense. I want to have a bigger impact on games where I can score touchdowns and immediately affect the outcomes of games. With my player now, the main thing is just to keep going, add a bit more TPE and get some good points that way into more tackling, intelligence, endurance and agility. I am sad that I spent a season or two inactive, otherwise I could have even more TPE to fight regression for longer. I think overall, I am very happy with my choices and think I made a pretty good player, who may not be good enough for the hall of fame, but will have a decent career to look back on.
