*A Luchadores Season Breakdown and Personal Review - Leafs4ever - 06-25-2018
It's been quite a rookie season for myself and a good season for my Luchadores. We finished with an 8-6 record and a date with the Marshalls in the SFC Championship Game.
As a team, Tijuana has enjoyed one of the best season in its history. Finishing second behind San Antonio, we brought a well balanced attack this season. We were the second best offensive team this season in points, yards, and rush offense, while we were 4th best in passing. On defense we were second in points allowed and rush defense, 3rd in yards, and 4th in pass defense. It's clear that offense was our calling card this season. At each skill position there was a committee of talented players leading it.
At quarterback we had Penner, Metaxas, and Falconi. Each quarterback brought a different element to the field and gave opposing teams a headache trying to defend each different style. Penner was the clear leader of the group, throwing 1925 yards and 9 TDs, while Metaxas brought a game breaking mobility to the position, capped by a DSFL record 99 yard TD run. Falconi came on late in the season, but showed flashes of strong play. Tijuana is going to need all 3 to be at the top of their game if they want a chance at beating San Antonio in the playoffs.
At running back, we had the dynamic duo of Ricky Adams and Sydney Spinelli. Together, they ran for 1627 yards and 8 TDs. Adams had the statistically better season, but both brought elements to the game that made Tijuana's rush offense the best in the SFC and second best in the league. This is where their strength lies. The Marshalls are going to be in tough to defend these two.
In the passing game, the Luchadores boasted a whole host of productive players. Xavier Flash, Stone Hans, Ricardo Jones, and Zapp Brannigan led the charge, giving their 3 quarterbacks a bevy of options in the passing game. Flash led the way in the group with 1006 yards and 5 TDs, while Brannigan led all tight ends with 435 yards. The depth that Tijuana showed this season really helped to open up the running game.
On defense, the clear leader was Thad Pennington, grabbing 5 interceptions and recording 78 tackles. Their cornerbacks also had a strong season with Richardson and Vranos getting a combined 8 interceptions. They were also capable of getting to the opposing quarterback, with Mills III getting 6 sacks and Young Spaghetti getting 4. The strength of the defense, however, was clearly in the secondary, but depth all around made them a formidable group all season.
What lies ahead is a huge challenge in the SFC Championship game. The San Antonio Marshalls are a certified juggernaut. They have weapons at every position and have dominated the DSFL this season. With a record of 11-3, they wait at home for the Luchadores to come in. During the season, the Marshalls went 2-1 against Tijuana, so if Tijuana is going to have a chance at beating them, they need every player to be at their very best. There is one weakness, however. The Marshalls carry with them the worst pass defense in the league. All season long, Tijuana had 4 players who were capable of getting open and getting yards down the field. The Luchadores need to exploit that weakness if they want to have a chance against this powerhouse.

Personally, I feel like I had a strong rookie season. In my first DSFL game, I tied the league record for catches in a game with 10. Throughout the season I kept consistent in getting my catches and yards. Touchdowns seemed to come slower, but at the end of the year I finally cracked the endzone with more consistency. What stings a little bit is the final 2 games. In those games, I just couldn't produce like I had been and saw Catcherman pass me for the league lead in receiving yards. That's something that I really wanted to achieve so it stings that I let it slip away. Outside of that, I finished the season with 76 catches, 1006 yards, and 5 TDs. I'm very excited to see if I can get back to my old form in the playoffs against San Antonio. It's a tough match-up for us, so I need to be at my best and not let my Luchas down.

Very nice. You were undoubtedly a difference maker on this team and an absolute steal as a second-round pick. Can't wait to see what kind f noise you make in the playoffs and next season.

I wouldn't be surprised if you start on an NSFL Team next year! Good work Luchadores! Great job at keeping an active locker room this season.

Yeah, not sure why, but we definitely suffered against the pass, though I think some of that is due to defensive TDs. If our defense is on the field and gets a TD, then they are right back on the field with no rest, which means they are tired. Not a great theory, but about the best I can think of.
