As a newcomer to the football world, I was very interested in a possible season to season change in team philosophy and effectiveness. The latter seems to be much easier to check, I used last S7 & S8 numbers in yards for and yards against:

Couple observations
  • Defenses really got close to each other in S7 yard differential between the top one (339,7 - Otters) and worst one (472,2 - Yeti) was 133 yards. Last season it was just 53 yards difference.
  • Meanwhile the gap between the top and the worst offence also shrank - 196,3 in S7 vs 158. Might be a sign of growing league parity and even that rebuilding teams can at least compete.
  • Biggest turnaround (possibly in NSFL history) belongs to Colorado Yeti, that improved their yard differential by 155,7 yards.
  • Second Line continued their ascension, but it was mostly seen on offence and deeper dive into numbers suggest their rushing game improvements were crucial. Even though they acquired a great cornerback in Benson Bayley, loss of Jaylen Broxton at S was still painful
  • Wraiths are an interesting case since their yard difference placed them 3rd in the league, but they had the best defence and offence looking at points scored/surrendered. Won Ultimus dismisses the notion it might've been lucky, but still, S8 wasn't nearly as dominant as their S7 showing.
  • Looking at last table we can easily pinpoint the teams that turned into rebuilt mode: Sabercats and Liberty.
  • Otters remain very dangerous, even though their core ages. I wonder how it will look next year, when regression hits even more.
  • Outlaws somehow improved, although by a very thin margin, so it might've been noise, still only rebuilding (or in an early phase of such rebuild) team that didn't regress.

Yea last year was our Saints 2011 season. We were dominant but had a bad sim in the playoffs.

The forced blitz decreases and OL nerfs hurt us on the QB runs and so limited our effectiveness overall. We still had a talented offense though

I think it was just that Arizona ran the ball a lot more, reducing both their and their opponents' number of possessions and therefore appearing more competitive. They will decline this year, though, largely due to a huge downgrade in QB.
