*Moosecop's NSFL Mock Draft - Moosecop - 07-04-2018 The Season 9 NSFL Draft is just a few short days away and my dumb ass didn't realize it was double media for draft related stuff. Anyway, I'm just going to cover the first round here, so let's get right into it. 1. ![]() First overall we got Ultimini champion and superstar wideout Xavier Flash. This man was an absolute animal lining up out wide for the Luchadores as he pulled in a league-leading 76 catches for 1003 yards, second-most in the league only to DSFL veteran Footballer Catcherman, and 5 touchdowns. Flash came in as a rookie and showed everyone what he can do, being able to haul in big play after big play while his team had a revolving door of 3 different quarterbacks. Not only can he get after in from the line of scrimmage, he's also got the blazing speed and quickness to be a serviceable kick returner as he showed last season when he took 7 kickoffs back for an average of 24.7 yards, the most in the league. His showing at the combine proves he's been working hard in the offseason and the Sabercats could use some young weapons to grow alongside quarterback Brad Pennington. 2. ![]() The Arizona Outlaws go out and get Bucky Barnes with the second overall pick. They allowed the second most points all of last season and bringing a top defensive player has got to be at the top of Arizona's list of things to do. Barnes performed amazingly in his first full DSFL season after joining the Marshals late in S7 and then returning to them in the draft at the start of S8. He racked up a league-leading 7 interceptions, tied for the DSFL record, while taking 3 of them back for scores in addition to forcing and recovering 2 fumbles and blocking a punt. The man wants to take that ball away from the opposing offense every chance he gets. Arizona would be a great fit for him as he can learn from fellow safety NSFL veteran Darren Morris and he can take the pressure off the young Barnes in what will almost definitely be an immediate jump to the top league. 3. ![]() The second Marshal in a row goes here at number three to Philidelphia. As we all know already the Liberty went from Ultimus champions to starting a massive rebuild just a half a season later which had many casualties including the retirement of aging, veteran quarterback Tyler Oles. With that, the Liberty need to and should get the best QB in the draft in Fitz with their selection here. Fitzpatrick was the Marshals offensive leader last season both on and off the field and bringing that type of attitude into a locker room, especially with a young player, can really reinvigorate the guys that are still around and the newcomers after last seasons fire sale. He lead all DSFL quarterbacks in QB Rating and completion percentage, while finishing second in yards and touchdowns. He managed to drop his turnover rate late in the season in addition to cutting the number of sacks he took compared to the season start. His massive improvements, especially in the latter half of the year, show he is ready for the big time. 4. ![]() The Cats get another top pick in this year's draft thanks to a trade with Colorado which nets them last seasons rushing touchdown leader, Marquise Brown, the third Marshal in a row. After selecting Ben Horne to lead their linebacking corp last season and taking their wide-out of the future number 1, they add some more help on the offensive side of the ball to ease the pressure off of Pennington. Brown really lived up to his nickname this past season as he found the goalline a record-shattering 15 times. He carried the ball a mere 264 times, as his team put the brunt of the work on the passsing game, but managed to amass 1222 yards, good for 4.6 yards per. At the combine he showed off his blistering speed with a 4.34 40 time, best of the season, while beating the other backs in the broad jump and shuttle. He may need to work on his strength if he wants end zoneeed at the NSFL level, but for now you know you can trust him to find the endzone, especially for a team that put up the least points in the league in S8. 5. ![]() The first playoff team to get a selection and the Baltimore Hawks go with Vinny Valentine, a wide receiver for the Coyotes. This is easily the toughest one for me to predict as the Hawks have a lot of good talent already in place in the positions where this drafts top prospects are. The Hawks current corp of wideouts is good but not particularly deep, unless you count Verso L'Alto, so by bringing in the best available receiver they can allow him another year in the DSFL to develop and to learn from long-time veteran and superstar like Alexandre LeClair. Valentine has the raw talent and athleticism as he had the second fastest 40 time by a mere .01 second while leading all other receivers in the broad jump and shuttle. After another year in the DSFL, expect Valentine to light up the scene in S10. 6. ![]() With the sixth pick in the draft, the Orange County Otters go with Kolby Deringer, easily the top linebacker prospect in what is a deep draft for the position. He was the main centerpiece for a defense that allowed the least points in the DSFL and took his team to 10-4. He finished the season one sack shy of the league lead with 12, picked off 2 passes, forced 3 fumbles, while recovering 1, defended 6 passes, and recorded 76 solo tackles, including being awared defensive player of the game 5 times. All-around one of the best in the league on the defensive side of the ball. The Otters defense has been led by Angus Winchester for a long time, but even he cannot escape Father Time. As he approaches his last handful of seasons he can be a great teacher to Deringer to help guide him, alongside Mason Brown, to be the scariest linebacking duo in the history of the league. 7. ![]() The Yeti select Declan Harp here at number seven. Colorado and Orange County are probably the only teams to this point in the draft that need a tight end so when the Otters pass on him the Yeti scoop him up. He's easily the best of the two available TE, but not only that, he might even be better than a lot of the WR in the draft. For the Coyotes last season he pulled in 64 receptions for 558 yards and one score while pancaking 12 defenders, his rugby background paying off well. His combine stats were also stellar as he ran an amazing 4.4 while putting up 30 reps on the bench and leaping 31 inches on his vertical. I feel bad for the defender that has to try and take this behemoth down in an open field. Believe me, I was one of them. It was ugly. For me. I fully expect him to be the steal of the draft, whether he goes here at 7 or at 6 to the Otters. 8. ![]() The defending Ultimus champions have the final selection in the first round and give that honor to Oskar Ludvig, a cornerback from San Antonio. Last season, the Wraiths allowed the second-fewest yards through the air, so why would they pick a corner in the first round? Well, it's because, like a lot of the other teams before them, the superstar corner they currently have in Dermot Lavelle, is getting into his twilight years as a player. Ludvig has already expressed a desire to stay in the DSFL another season to try and hoist the Ultimini trophy and the Wraiths provide a perfect situation for him to do that. He's not hard pressed to be NSFL ready and can continue his development at his own pace. On the other hand, how much does he really need? He intercepted 6 passes (second in the league), defended 13 (league leading), made 62 tackles, and took 4 of those picks back for touchdowns (a DSFL record). Again, like a lot of the players drafted before him, he'll have plenty of learning to do behind a veteran at his position, except he won't be thrown into the fire immediately. Thanks for reading and please, don't call me a witch and burn me at the stake for getting all these predictions so perfect. I'm just a guy with the league index and rosters. Great analysis. *Moosecop's NSFL Mock Draft - timeconsumer - 07-05-2018 Fitzpatrick going ahead of Deringer? Bold prediction. *Moosecop's NSFL Mock Draft - ItsJustBarry - 07-05-2018 Fitzpatrick back to Philly in general is a bold prediction. and IMO, Hawks' don't need any more WR. There's already too many players stealing all my yards and TDs. They keep this up and we're going to have to rebrand to the vultures. |
