Leroy's Guest - Jiggly_333 - 06-03-2017 She's almost as tall as he is, but she couldn't be any more different. Out-spoken and down-right militant, it would be easy to be confused at their friendship; but the connection between former Flint Firebirds star Dakota Reid and the Orange County Otters' Leroy Jenkins goes much deeper than that. Reid salutes the crowd after a goal As the story goes, both athletes were attending Curie Metropolitan High School when they met. Both were outcasts among their areas. Leroy was bullied over his weight, while Dakota had been berated for joining the local hockey club. They met during lunch when Leroy saw that she was sitting alone struggling with a history assignment. Soon they became friends and bonded over each other's sports. In fact, Reid even tried out for the team as a free safety, but learned that she was much better suited on the ice. According to her, Leroy has only ever touched the ice once and that's where his crooked nose came from. Dakota does what she does best But their bond doesn't stop there. Just as Leroy makes his name for his hard-hitting and high-scoring play style, so too does Reid. Last season she led the OHL in points, goals, and hits. The difference is that Dakota is an antagonist. Leroy takes everything in stride and is always there to lend a hand to an opponent he mowed over. Dakota on the other hand has spoken greatly on her pleasure for demolishing her "enemies", sometimes being heard to yell insults and profanity as she throws herself into their bodies. She's racked up the most penalty minutes in OHL history and is proud of it. "I play to win. They're in my way. If you're in my way, you won't be very long. If that means chopping you down, so be it. If it doesn't, you're still going down," she once said after sending a defenseman to the hospital after a late hit. But what does she think of her friend? "Leroy is a big guy and a good one at that. I'm sure he'll fit right into whatever locker room he goes into. We all know what he can do and I know that he can do it. He does too, he just doesn't show it." Reid has also recently been drafted and is on her way to the Chicago Sting next season. Only time will tell on whether her controversy off the ice will reach Leroy, but until then it at least makes for a cute love story.
