3.....2.....(one)...... *music plays*

Welcome back to Sports New York News. I'm Chris Handley, my co-host Michelle Yost is out today. On today's show we're mostly going to cover the news around the NSFL. We have a special guest with us today. New Rochelle native, and member of the Orange County Otters, Marc Spector.

Spector: Thanks Chris. Glad to be here. Always a pleasure. Hope Michelle is doing well.

Handley: She'll be sad to have missed this opportunity. Onto our first topic. You're having an incredible season. Possibly your best so far. What's your take on your year thus far?

Spector: Man, I just feel it this year. I'm just gravitating to that ball. Feels good to be recognized for my skills.

Handley: One person said you might be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year. you think you're in that category?

Spector: I dunno, man. I go out there and play my best. Every snap. But I'm not blind to the other guys out there balling. Flock is having a great season. Hendrix is my guess though. He's having a better year than me. Don't count out my boy, Mason Brown. He's gonna finish this season strong.

Handley: Hendrix is playing very well. You're right there. You played Philadelphia yesterday. Your team destroyed the Liberty. Tell us about the game.

Spector: Yeah, man, that was a fun one. Boss looked like his old self out there. Crush and Westy feasted on their defense. Good game. My boy Sierra had Noble on the run all game.

Handley: You contributed on the scoreboard too. You've become quite a special teamer as of late.

Spector: Yeah, I wanted to do it my whole career but when Brad was in peak shape, he was definitely a better return guy. He's still legit. But he taught me some stuff and I like my role in the special teams. That return TD was killer. Enchant had a perfect block, without that I'd been down at like the 30 or so.

Handley: That's not the only new contribution you've made this season. Week 6 against the Outlaws you caught a TD pass. You might be the first player in NSFL history to catch, return and get and get a defensive TD in a single season. We'll have to check sources, but you're almost definitely the first without a position swap. Any plans to line you up under center and get you to throw one?

Spector: Haha! That'd be funny, but no. I don't think so. Do we play Philly again? If so, maybe then. Just kidding, love you guys in Philly. But for real, this season has been bonkers. In pre-season we were playing around, and I mentioned how I played WR in high school and my freshman year at Rice, and for laughs I lined up against King. Mike threw me a ball and it was perfect. King couldn't get me. Jaylon came in to slap me, you know, no contact drills that early, and I put a deek on, stopped him cold. I think that open coach's eyes a bit and made him think. Before I knew it, I was subbing in at receiver for trick plays. it's been different.

Handley: There's a lot of rumors about this coming offseason. Orange County has a LOT of decisions to make. What do you think of your future there, and the team?

Spector: Yeah, I'm set to be a free agent. I think so is Boss, Crush and Atwell. I've never played for another team, and at this point in my career I think it'd be strange to go play anywhere else. But of course anything can happen. It takes two sides to come to agreement and if they want to move on, I'll have to decide to hang up the cleats and retire or find a team who can take on this triple threat.

Handley: what about your team mates?

Spector: They're in the same boat. If the team wants them, they'll make it known. Optimally, I'd love for this team to stay whole. Carlito and I get along well. Tegan is pretty chill, but I'd understand it if she went elsewhere.

Handley: Whoa, what do you mean? Has Atwell said something to you about being unhappy in Orange County?

Spector: No, no. Quite the contrary. She loves the place. I'm just saying from a player perspective, playing behind Bradley and Carlito, she's the best WR not getting TDs. I have as many as she does. I get Mike's not the same as he was in Season 6 and all, but 1 TD is weak. Jordan even has 2. She's not said a single thing to voice discontent. Don't turn this into a story, Chris.

Handley: Alright, alright. But keeping on WRs leaving teams, what's your take on the announcement Alexandre LeClair made about leaving Baltimore?

Spector: Real talk? Good for him. Alex is one of the stand up guys in the league. I go up against this leagues best receivers and few can back up their talk like he can. And even his trash talking is classy. He doesn't make it personal. I've always had lot of respect fr the man, and I hope he can find a team that he can close out a top notch career where he's happy. He deserves a ring. If he can't get one in Baltimore this season, I'd expect him to go to for a ring.

Handley: Gotta try for the ring. Of course. What's your take on the recent retirement announcements? Dan Miller, Micah Hendrix, King Bronko, Dustin Evans, Vinny Sharpei and just today, Iyah Blewitt?

Spector: It's the changing of the guard. A lot of big marquis names are off to blaze a new trail. I don't know most those guys well, but I definitely heard of them. Dan Miller for sure has to be considered for Hall of Fame. I went up against Dusitn for years, and he got the best of me more times than I wanna admit, haha. He can be a bit dirty, but you gotta be a bit to get an edge on me. I wish him the best in the future. He was a big part of Arizona's best years. One of the few non-asterisks.

Handley: Nothing to say about the others?

Spector: I don't know them much. Vin was a big part of San Jose but I never met the guy. One of the best to play the game though. Bronko. I dunno. I think they did him wrong. And Blewitt might be having the best season ever for a kicker. Leaving now seems silly but his life, his call.

Handley: Back up a a sec. What do you mean "They did him wrong."? Who did who wrong?

Spector: The Outlaws. King was a big reason the team won those rings and made us look like fools for those first 3 seasons. Bronko may not have had Boss or Akselsen numbers, but he was far from being disrespected like that. I'm not gonna say anything bad about Fitzpatrick, here. It's not his fault the team is moving on from King. He looks legit. But you got a guy who gave his everything, legit, for that team. In his waning years, instead of trading him or letting him out of his contract, they benched him basically saying "Retire or ride the pine." To do the face of the franchise like that? Man, I know I didn't like Arizona before but that sunk them to a new low for me.

Handley: So, what are you saying they should have done?

Spector: Ship him to Philadelphia. The fact that that Logan Noble still has a job in this league and king Bronko was shoved into retirement just sickens me. Honestly, Noble should have been banned after his positive doping charges. Little punk has no right playing being in the NSFL. There's 2 QBs struggling for time in Kansas City, but Logan "Coolest Kid in Saskatoon" Noble can still throw passes up in the NSFL? It's a got-damn shame.

Handley: A lot of contempt for Logan Noble.

Spector: You could say that. A shame I only picked him off once this year.

Handley: It's not often we see you this upset, Marc. Anyone else you wanna put on blast?

Spector: Nah, I'm good. Arizona and Noble are about all I got. Never liked the Asterisks in this league. Not gonna start forgiving now, just because I'm on TV.

Handley: Alright. Looking forward, who do you have going to the Hall of Fame eventually from current or past NSFL players?

Spector: I'm biased, but Orange County should have a whole wing. Winchester, Boss, Bavitz and Westfield, no doubt. A case can be made for Clegane, Sierra and myself hopefully. As much as I love the guy, and miss seeing him in the locker room, Leroy Jenkins will probably never get in. But I think he's happy where he's at. We still hang out from time to time during the offseason. He still comes by the gym at OCO to work out and hang out with Boss and Westfield.

Handley: A lot of great players have walked those halls in the last decade for sure. Your name might just be up on their ring of honor someday. Anyone on other teams you think need to be enshrined?

Spector: Oh hell yeah. A bunch. Johnathan Saint is the first name that comes to my mind. Dude is world class. Not a me first guy, goes out there and does his job well every day. puts up numbers and just makes a fool of everyone else. Let's see. Reg Mackworthy. Don't like his team at all but he's got the digits.

Handley: And the rings.

Spector: Yeah, them too. Tweed for sure. Another workhorse who has done the rough job without a complaint. Vinny Sharpei has got to be in. And it begrudges me to say, but Antoine Delacour.

Handley: Why does it begrudge you?

Spector: Because its tough to admit when another player does your job better than you. Like, I think I'm better than 99% of the other CBs in this league. Like Canton and Lavelle. They're on point but I think tow to toe, I'm better. They're just not in the same scheme I am so we get different results. But Antoine? He's that 1% I can't say I'm better than. He's legit. I have mad respect for him, and I hate to admit he's better.

Handley: That's pretty humbling.

Spector: I know it's not by much, I'm not saying I'm a scrub next to him, and I'll take him on in any challenge but I gotta say he's absolutely amazing.

Handley: Before we go, your Otters drafted a kid, Gus T.T. Showbiz. What's your impressions of him?

Spector: He's done pretty good from what I've seen. He's accurate and got some signs of greatness. I like his direction. It'll be very interesting to see how he makes the transition from DSFL to NSFL though. They're 2 different leagues, not just literally. The talent he'll be throwing to and against are miles apart. And those sacks he's gonna have to avoid hit a lot harder. But he's got spirit and I see a bright future.

Handley: Well, that's about all we have for tod... wait what? Our producers are saying we have a late breaking news story. Perfect we have you on set for this, Marc.

Spector: Hmm? What's going on? Did I just get traded? Please tell me I'm not going to New Orleans? Or worse... Arizona. Son of a...

Handley: No, you're not being traded. Former RB for the Otters, Erlich Burnsman has just announced he's retiring.

Spector: Oh yes. He told me earlier this week. I couldn't say anything, obviously. He was great and it's a shame he declined as badly as he did but he was a great member of the organization. The best goal line back this league has ever seen. A shame he couldn't get it done in the passing game or between the 20s. But Yates made up for that more than we ever thought possible. Yates is another Otter who you can make a very solid case for the Hall.

Handley: Yeah, he was one of the biggest names in the league for a while, for sure. That's all the time we have for today. It's been great having you. Good luck this week versus Baltimore.

Spector: I hope this isn't my final time facing Alex as a Hawk. If so, it'll be a classic. It was a pleasure being here. I'll have to come by again some time.

Handley: For NYSN, I'm Chris Handley.

*Music begins to play and screen fades to black.*

Spector: Chris, what the hell was that? Trying to create drama between me and Tegan?

Handley: No, I was just...

Spector: Making a story out of nothing. Dammit. Now everyone in the locker room is gonna make me out to be a jerk. I'll have to apologize. Lucky for me she's cool and not the type to take this bullshit seriously. But if this were some other players? Man...

Handley: Sorry, We were just shooting off the cuff and...

Spector: You forget my dad is your employer right? Watch your god damned tongue around me. I got a plane to catch. See you later, Chris.
