It may seem like a surprise to those on the outside, but this was a move seen within the Colorado Yeti organization as inevitable. After what was a series of what can only be described as "win-now" moves in the offseason before S13, the team mortgaged away several of their future draft picks to acquire superstar talent on rental deals. While the team did reach Ultimus Bowl XIII and come only 3 points short of taking home the trophy, it was clear that they were an underperforming team which mostly bumbled their way to the big game rather than deserve to make it.
Much of the blame for this has fallen squarely on the shoulders of former kicker turned current franchise QB Micycle McCormick. McCormick, who is now beginning to move past his prime years, was slated to have a breakout season as the team added Verso L'Alto to an already star-studded receiving corps. Instead, he struggled with interceptions and poor performance in the biggest moments, and drew the ire of both fans and both former GMs.
When asked for comment, McCormick simply stated that he had the utmost respect for the two and despite any disagreements he was proud to have played for the pair.
"Look guys, they just lost their job for something that wasn't necessarily their fault," McCormick said at his locker. "I think very highly of them, and I'm sure they will land on their feet."
Even with the struggles of the previous season, both Michaels and Stevenson looked to bounce back for S14 and make some big splashes in free agency, especially since they had no useful draft picks for the S14 NSFL Draft. The team was believed to be in the running for stars such as safety Dan Schneider, but came home empty handed in every endeavor. While they have appeared to plan for Howard Miller's surprise retirement by trading with Arizona for Viggo Squanch, there are huge holes in both the front 7 and secondary that appear to be left unfixed.
These shortcomings appear to be the breaking point for Yeti ownership, as the dismissal came shortly after most free agents have signed with their new (or old) teams.
"I really want to thank Scott and Bobert for their service to the Yeti organization, and for helping lead a huge turnaround for our team," said owner Biggert Footson. "Unfortunately, we felt it was time to move on and take a new approach. We wish them the best of luck moving forwards. With that being said, we're excited to see where the future lies, and we think Malmouf can help get us there."
Of note was the lack of interim Co-GM for the organization. When approached about that, Silvers stated that they were looking at their options and hoping to have a new hire before the beginning of the season.
The ownership group also looked to quash the rumors of relocation, stating simply that while renovations were needed for Yeti Stadium, there was "absolutely zero chance" that the team leaves Colorado.
