Regular Season Game 1: San Antonio Marshals

After the Solar Bear’s preseason beatdown by the Marshals, I think a lot of people speculated that history would repeat itself and we would be looking at another blowout victory by San Antonio. Things didn’t quite turn out that way though. First, let’s look at the quarterback comparisons. Cooter Bigsby for San Antonio had a very efficient day completing 12 of 21 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown which was good for a passer rating of 93. Apollo Lange for Palm Beach completed 18 of 30 passes for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns. Additionally, Lange ran the ball twice for a total of 27 yards. Sounds like a pretty good day for Lange, but it was hampered by the fact that 4 interceptions were thrown. Part of that can be blamed on the game plan and the Palm Beach coaches fully acknowledged that they maybe gave a little bit too much responsibility to the rookie quarterback. Marshall and Vaz led the way for the Marshals in terms of rushing collecting 88 and 47 yards respectively with Marshall collecting a touchdown. For the Solar Bears, Ludicolo Bigby was the workhorse of the day, running the ball 30 times for 161 yards. In terms of receiving, Kleven was the standout for the Marshals grabbing 5 receptions for 61 yards while Bortboy was the star for the Solar Bears catching 3 passes, 2 of which were for touchdowns. Defensively, the Marshals were led by Berry who had 11 tackles and 2 tackles for loss and Green who had 6 tackles and 2 interceptions. Palm Beach was led by Hardshaft who collected 8 tackles. This game came down to the last drive of the game, unfortunately the Palm Beach offense was unable to make 1 last successful push.
Final Score: San Antonio Marshals

Regular Season Game 2: Tijuana Luchadores

Another game that the Solar Bears were looking to avenge a preseason loss, this time at the hands of the Luchadores. Havran once again proved that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the DSFL by completing 28 of 44 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown which was good for a rating of 86.4. Lange had an efficient day completing 17 of 27 pass attempts for 187 with no touchdowns or interceptions which was good for a rating of 83.4. Havran not only passed well, but was the Luchadores rushing leader, in terms of yards, as he collected 50 yards on 5 rushing attempts. Bigby was the workhorse for Palm Beach again as he ran 28 times for 105 yards. Varga emerged as the top target for Lange as he caught 5 receptions for 61 yards. Havran hit a multitude of targets with the Luchadores air raid offense. Tidwell had 78 yards and a touchdown, Rey had 71 yards, and Irving had 30 yards. Defensively, the Luchadores were led by Jimmy Slothface who had 9 tackles, 1 sack, and a pass defended. The Solar Bears were led by Sinclair who had 9 tackles and 2 passes defended and Nikko who had 7 tackles and 4 sacks… yes you read that correctly, he had 4 sacks. Despite the fact that the Solar Bears really cleaned up their game from their first outing, the Luchadores strong defense proved that they were just too much to handle for this young Solar Bears offense.
Final Score: Tijuana Luchadores

Regular Season Game 3: Palm Beach Solar Bears

Alright, so going 0-2 isn’t the best way to start a season, but there is no time like your first road game of the regular season against the surprise team of the season to turn your luck around… right? Longshaw for the Seawolves had himself a day completing 16 of 29 passing attempts for 151 yards and a touchdown which was good for a rating of 81.2. Lange struggled in the turnover department again completing 13 of 24 passing attempts for 105 yards and 3 interceptions. Jimbo had Reed for the Seawolves had 102 and 43 rushing yards respectively. The Solar Bears split running snaps as well with Bigby collecting 81 yards on 20 attempts with Bortboy collecting 73 yards on 11 attempts. The Seawolves receivers were led by Espeeyeeseetee who had 5 receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown. Tight end, Chase Jensen, led the Solar Bears receivers with 5 receptions for 59 yards. The Seawolves on the defensive side of the ball were led by Allen Josh who collected 10 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 2 passes defended and an interception. Basically, the guy was all over the field causing problems for the Solar Bear offense. The Solar Bears were led by Hardshaft who had 13 tackles and a sack and Nikko who had 10 tackles and a sack. The turnovers in this game were one of the big deciding factors as the Palm Beach offense just couldn’t get the ball rolling consistently.
Final Score: Norfolk Seawolves

Regular Season Game 4: Palm Beach Solar Bears

Well… I don’t quite know how to say this. If you thought that the San Antonio Marshals brutalization of the Palm Beach Solar Bears in the preseason was ugly… well, then you’re about to read about another dam ugly game. Bigsby showed up for the San Antonio Marshals completing 25 of 37 passing attempts for 197 yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception which was all for a rating of 96.3. I don’t want this article to sound like I am picking on Lange because that is far from what it actually is. I love my guy, but I’m just listing the stats so seriously don’t take this as me calling him out in any way shape or form. Lange struggled completing 10 of 33 passing attempts for 65 yards and 6 interceptions. Not only did San Antonio dominate in the passing game, they also did in the running game. Both Vaz and Marshall for the Marshals eclipsed the 100 yard mark with Vaz also collecting a touchdown. Bortboy and Bigby tried to hang in there, but they collected 76 yards and 51 yards respectively. Big Chest and Marshall were Bigsby’s favorite targets on the day in terms of yards, but it was tight end, Timmy Hoss, who hauled in all 3 receiving touchdowns for the Marshals. Varga led the Solar Bears with a mere 20 yards receiving. Defensively, the Solar Bears were led by Gabagool who had 14 tackles and Hardshaft who had 13 tackles and a tackle for loss. The Marshals had a ton of standouts on defense, but were led by Bode who had 12 tackles, a sack, and a pass defended and Green who hauled in 3 interceptions. All-in-all, no team stands a chance when turning the ball over as many times as the Solar Bears did in this game.
Final Score: San Antonio Marshals

Yep, so the Solar Bears fell to 0-4 in the first week. I’m disappointed to be honest. Not in my team, I couldn’t be more proud about how they have conducted themselves in the locker room despite the record. I’m disappointed in myself for not holding up my end of the bargain and putting together a game plan that would lead this team to success. My guys have literally done everything that was asked of them, so I whole heartedly apologize for how this season as started and can really only say that we are doing everything in our power to turn things around.
On to some more happy news though, this is going to be the first installment of Dizzy’s Players of the Week! Every week, I am going to be picking one offensive and one defensive player to hold the honor of being that week’s best player on the field for the Solar Bears. Let’s get right into it.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – RB LUDICOLO BIGBY @TheWoZy
Bibgy led the charge for the Solar Bears offense this week as he got the workhorse load of carries. He currently is third in the league in rushing yards with 390 yards on 80 rushing attempts. He also has 1 touchdown on the season which for our struggling offense is pretty dang good!
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – LB GUY NIKKO @Duress
This was a harder award to pick as it really came down to Hardshaft and Nikko. I had to go with Nikko for his impressive 4 sack game that he had against Tijuana. Thanks to that game Nikko currently leads the DSFL in sacks with 6 over 4 games while also collecting 23 tackles and a forced fumble.
Congrats to both of our winners and we look forward to seeing which Solar Bears standout next week… and hopefully we get at least 1 damn win! GO SOLAR BEARS.
