[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Hey! It's me! Your newest Philadelphia Liberty Running Back, Vander Jones! I am here to say that I know close to nothing about this draft class, and the majority of players in the league if I'm being honest, but it's doubles week and it's time to pump some draft content! So here goes my best crack at predicting this highly unpredictable draft that will be taking place later this evening.
1. Arizona Outlaws
S14 1st Round Pick: LB Gekyume Stokeley
Team Needs: WR, DB, TE, DL
Best Fits Available:
Nero Alexander, DE
Brock Landers, WR
Walt Green, DB
Chase Jensen, TE
The Pick: WR Brock Landers
The Arizona Outlaws could go a number of ways with this pick and it is arguable the worst pick to have in this particular draft. The reason it is the worst is because you can get a player of equal talent all the way from first to last. This is a loaded draft class and there really is not premium to having the top pick this year in comparison to season's past. With that said I believe that Brock Landers is one of the highest ceiling prospects in this draft class and he fills a need at wide receiver for the Outlaws. Most would argue that receiver is not a position that makes as big of an impact to winning as something like linebacker or defensive back but bottom line, you can't mess this pick up. Landers is the most fool proof pick in this draft class and again he fills one of the needs of the Outlaws team. They did add a receiver in the S14 draft in Drew Maddox, who is promising in his own right, but that shouldn't deter them from selecting another one since you need at least two top end guys to succeed on offense. Landers offers a fantastic safety blanket style pick as I do not see a scenario in which he doesn't become one of the league's best players.
2. New Orleans Second Line
S14 1st Round Pick: TE Stan Francisco
Team Needs: DB, LB, WR
Best Fits Available:
Walt Green, DB
Johnny Slothface, LB
Quenton Bode, LB
Ahri Espeeyeeseetee, WR
The Pick: LB Johnny Slothface
The New Orleans Second Line have back-to-back picks and I definitely think they need to address the defensive side of the ball with at least one of the picks. The Second Line used last year's top selection on a tight end and they still need offense to put around Borkus Maximum in his few remaining years but you win championships with defense. That is why I believe they will look at the defensive side of the ball and take one of the top linebackers available in Johnny Slothface. Slothface has done everything right off the field and was the backbone of the Luchadores defense this past season. The Second Line needs a passionate leader in that linebacker group and Slothface could be the answer. Making him the selection would go a long ways in taking the franchise in the right direction.
3. New Orleans Second Line
S14 1st Round Pick: TE Stan Francisco
Team Needs: DB, LB, WR
Best Fits Available:
Walt Green, DB
Quenton Bode, LB
Ahri Espeeyeeseetee, WR
The Pick: DE Nero Alexander
This pick may come as a bit of a surprise as I am going off the grid from my best fits available to make it. However I believe Nero Alexander is one of the three best prospects in the draft class and while Second Line is decently strong on the defensive line, you can't pass up an elite prospect like this when you are a rebuilding team. I could see Alexander lining up on the opposite end of Graayson Kuusela and causing all kinds of havoc for opposing quarterbacks. If you can get to the quarterback at a high rate, it makes the rest of your defense a lot better, so I think with that mindset making Alexander the pick over some more pressing needs is the right move. If Alexander is available to them and they pass on him twice I will have some major question marks about the front office and their ability to formulate a competitive roster.
4. Yellowknife Wraiths
S14 1st Round Pick: K/P Stephen Harris Jr.
Team Needs: RB, LB, TE, DB
Best Fits Available:
Walt Green, DB
Morgan Marshall, RB
Quenton Bode, LB
Chase Jensen, TE
The Pick: RB Morgan Marshall
The Yellowknife Wraiths have to think about a future replacement for Dick Wizardry as he will be headed to an expansion team in Season 16. This is the perfect draft class to need a running back as there is a fantastic one available to you at the fourth selection. Morgan Marshall was a do everything back for the San Antonio Marshall's and he continues to get better at an incredible pace. He is one of the most active players in the league and will be the perfect guy to take over for Wizardry when he moves on to a new team. I could easily see Marshall being the top pick if running back was more of a position need for the two teams above the Wraith and I think they would be foolish to pass on this opportunity. It's not every day you can lose a great young back but have a great young back waiting to take over and that is exactly the opportunity the Wraith have if they make this pick.
5. Austin Copperheads
S14 1st Round Pick: N/A
Team Needs: Everything
Best Fits Available:
Walt Green, DB
Quenton Bode, LB
Ahri Espeeyeeseetee, WR
Ricardo Morris, DT
The Pick: WR Ahri Espeeyeeseetee
The first of the expansion teams to select, the Austin Copperheads obviously need a little bit of everything. Looking at the future of this team they currently have Dick Wizardry coming in to fill the running back position and they have a quarterback of the future in the wings as well. Being that there two selected players are on the offensive side of the ball it may make more sense to take a defensive leader, right? Wrong! I believe the Copperheads would do well to grab the top available receiver on the board and form a young three headed monster on the offensive side of the ball. If you are going to start your team out with an emphasis on offense then you might as well completely buy in and take the missing piece to get it started off right. Ahri Espeeyeeseetee has a very tough name to spell but his game is easy to watch and what we watch on game days is an electric guy that can win on the outside and has been improving every single week. I would love to see Espeeyeeseetee get a chance to be a young leader on this team and grow with Wizardry and the currently un-named quarterback.
6. Chicago Butchers
S14 1st Round Pick: N/A
Team Needs: Everything
Best Fits Available:
Walt Green, DB
Chase Jensen, TE
Quenton Bode, LB
Xerxes Ridley, DB
Franklin Armstrong, QB
The Pick: LB Quenton Bode
The Chicago Butchers drew the sixth pick in this one and like the Copperheads, have a lot of needs. Currently they are projected to be bringing in receiver Kazimir Oles to the team and beyond that it is unclear. No matter who they pick here, or what position, it won't swing the direction in which way this team goes when building it. With that said I am a believe that defense is key and especially up front. Quentin Bode is my top available linebacker and he would be a great player to fill one of the critical linebacker positions. He was a strong leader on the DSFL's top defense in San Antonio and his instincts, athletic ability, and work ethic should make him the top linebacker selected. He may not be the sexiest of picks to make here but I think he is the necessary pick for the Butchers.
7. Colorado Yeti
S14 1st Round Pick: N/A
Team Needs: RB, LB, DB, DL
Best Fits Available:
Walt Green, DB
Terry Taffy, RB
Mo Berry, LB
Xerxes Ridley, DB
The Pick: DB Richard D'Attoria V
Here comes the second pick that wasn't listed in my best fits available. I believe that Richard D'Attoria V could be the top defensive back picked because he presents the safest floor among all the defensive back draftees in this class. D'Attoria is the exact definition of solid and safe as a draft pick and the Yeti need to get the franchise turned in the right direction by picking a high character guy like D'Attoria. I believe that corner back and running back are two bigger needs for the Yeti but I also believe that D'Attoria could eventually slide down to a corner spot and form a nice tandem with Beau Montgomery. This would make for a very nice pick if the Yeti pull the trigger.
8. Orange County Otters
S14 1st Round Pick: N/A
Team Needs: DB, DL, K/P
Best Fits Available:
Walt Green, DB
Xerxes Ridley, DB
Ricardo Morris, DL
The Pick: DB Walt Green
The Orange County Otters may be the most well-rounded team in the NSFL and they do not have any obvious weakness. It was hard for me to come up with what they actually need but from experience playing for them for two seasons and going through free agency negotiations, I do know they are in the market for a guy who can take over a safety position. That is why I believe they will make Walt Green the pick. Green had an incredible DSFL season and is a guy that has been getting each week since finding his way to the NSFL. The expansion draft may see the Otters get picked apart but securing a young, protected, talent like Green to have in the secondary would be the best route for them. Green is an easy guy to root for as he gets kind of lost in the mix with this deep draft class so seeing him go first round would be a great draft day story.
9. Philadelphia Liberty
S14 1st Round Pick: DT Maxwell Beard
Team Needs: WR, LB, DB
Best Fits Available:
Xerxes Ridley, DB
Mo Berry, LB
Rod Tidwell, WR
The Pick: LB Mo Berry
The Philadelphia Liberty is now where I get to call home and let me tell you; I have no idea who we are picking. I can't even get who we like out of the GM they are so tight lipped. So I will have to go into this blind and judging by the current make up of the team I think the selection of a receiver, linebacker, or defensive back would make the most sense. They are losing long time receiver Carter Bush to retirement at the end of the season and they had glaring weaknesses at linebacker and corner back last season. With the knowledge that will be getting the GM assigned player in the second round, who is a corner back, I have to think that Mo Berry will be the selection as he is the top available linebacker and arguably the top player available that fits the Liberty team needs. Berry was a bit of an overlooked player on that vaunted San Antonio Marshalls defense and because of that he is likely to fall in the draft which is great for the Liberty if they can scoop him up. Berry would make a great fit in the locker room and make the linebacker group a bright spot in the youth uprising for the Liberty.
10. San Jose Sabercats
S14 1st Round Pick: N/A
Team Needs: WR, TE, DL
Best Fits Available:
Chase Jensen, TE
Rod Tidwell, WR
Ricardo Morris, DL
The Pick: TE Chase Jensen
The San Jose Sabercats won the ultimate prize this season, The Ultimus. This is a great year to be the champion and get the last pick of the draft because you are getting a guy that could arguably for first overall in almost any other draft. The Sabercats could use an upgrade on offense with the future departure of Kazimir Oles and the lack of talent at tight end. Chase Jensen is one of the most talented players in this draft but his position caused his fall. That fall should stop as the Sabercats are one of the few teams with a glaring need for a tight end and are selecting in a spot that it doesn't make sense to pass on Jensen for somebody else. I could very easily see Jensen going much higher if a team doesn't care so much about his position or has ideas of moving him to receiver but if he is available here then the Sabercats absolutely have to make him the selection. Jensen is going to be a do-everything tight end and will be the perfect team first guy to have in the locker room.
