Ladies and Gentleman, Welcome to another off season interview session. If you watched the awards show last night, then you will know my guest today needs no introduction. He is the super star line backer from the Norfolk Seawolves, Future International Simulation Football League Hall of Famer, and also the very first person I ever had the opportunity to scout. Lets all welcome the one, the only, Sconnie Mchitts to the interview show today! Sconnie, we could start in a literal million places, but lets start all the way back to that first conversation we had during scouting. At that time, you were brand new to this league. What were your thoughts as you began getting scouted for the DSFL draft? What were your impressions from our conversation, and did you have any idea that Norfolk would end up being the team that selected you? At that time you were booming footballs through the uprights from 70+ yards out, and now you are laying out opposing offensive players all over the field. What was the position change like for you?
G2019
Hey GBeck, thanks so much for reaching out...always a pleasure to chat with you! The scouting process was, I think, one of the initial things that really made me fall in love with this league. Seeing people reaching out and interested and treating it like a professional team might was really cool! You are correct; you were the first person to scout me, and we had a great conversation! I loved how laid back and supportive you were...you definitely probed for answers, but weren't pushy. I try to use that approach in my own scouting practices now. Anyway, the thing I really loved from the scouting conversations were the locker room invites. These gave me a chance to see what parts of teams' locker rooms were really like, and how I might vibe with those teams. I had some really great conversations with a lot of folks, but the locker rooms are mainly what sold me and led me to really hope to be selected by either Norfolk or London. It's crazy now to look back at that draft, because I had no idea if I would go in the 1st round at all. I thought there was a solid chance I could be a 2nd rounder, and potentially drop into the 3rd. I saw all of these amazing recreates in my class and wondered how I could possibly be picked ahead of them. Big shout out to a lot of those folks, who really take it upon themselves to tell teams to take new creates first...that's something I think is really selfless and special and I hope to pay that forward when I retire and recreate. Obviously, now I know that Norfolk wanted me at #2 and London was eyeing me up at #3, which is a huge honor, and I could not be happier to be in Norfolk. I have vibed so much with so many people there, and now have really connected with my teammates, and look forward to doing the same with our new draftees. The position change is a fortunate one, and I've thanked Negs many times for suggesting it. As much as 'sim gonna sim' all over the field, kicking just seems super RNG. I would hate to be a max earning kicker, hit like 1500 peak TPE, and end up missing a 19 yard Ultimus-winning field goal one day, lol. Obviously, the switch to linebacker allowed me to be a positional leader on our defense, which led to some big tackle numbers and two of the awards I won last night, as well.
Gbeck765:
I wrote about the scouting process being my favorite in our offseason point task a few days ago. I had a similar situation with falling in love with the league during scouting. I actually wrote about it in our offseason point task this week. I think that the scouting process is such a high light for our league. Like you mentioned, getting into locker rooms only adds to it in a positive way. I think a lot of us on here would agree with this as well. It is so fun being scouted and then seeing where you may fit in by getting in the locker rooms. I have enjoyed Norfolk so much, and hope that the other team locker rooms have a similar vibe and atmosphere. When I joined the servers, I did so like the week before the dsfl draft so missed out on locker rooms and scouting and all of that. Isa reached out and I ended up getting selected in like the 3rd or 4th round. I was so confused at the time lol but always hold Isa on a pedestal since then because I only had one other team actually scout me at that time, and they passed on me. Isa is forever a legend in my book and am so happy I was able to go to Norfolk as a result.
I think switching positions was great for the reasons that you mentioned. I am so happy that you like being a linebacker and add to your locker room leadership with sim defensive leadership. The Awards Ceremony was last night, where you won multiple awards. I was rooting from the sidelines hoping you would take home all the gold. How did it field to take home defensive rookie of the year and defensive player of the year all in your first season? You are the Ray Lewis of Sim.
You had a great season, were you expecting any of these awards?
G2019
Haha you are too kind. The awards were a blast...just being on stream and being able to talk about my teammates and other great players in this league. The awards were humbling and definitely a proud moment for me. I was up against a lot of players that also had OUTSTANDING seasons...to be nominated was outstanding. I want to specifically highlight my Defensive Rookie of the Year Award, which, I feel, should have gone to Tessie Garciaparra, who simply FILLED the stat sheet this season and forced a ton of turnovers. At the end of the season, I knew I would be in contention for the awards, and I'm happy I was able to snag some of them. Now, my attention is on this coming season and helping Norfolk make a playoff run!
Gbeck765:
Everyone loves a humble super star and that is exactly what Norfolk and Colorado have in you! It has been a joy to watch from afar and see your transcendence in such a short time from newcomer to someone who is doing tons of media throughout the season and then to being a part of the actual awards presentation. I know many of us have loved the podcasts that you have recorded and have enjoyed how you have had others join you from around the league. Did you ever think that you would get so involved so early on? PS you did a great job on the awards stream!
G2019 :
Within the first week or so, I knew I was going to be putting out media. It's been great to get rolling with that and have the support of other users. That has kind of emboldened me to continue, to roll out the weekly podcast, etc...I really enjoy it (and who does not like money?!). Thanks for the comment on the awards stream...it was fun! I don't know much about the ISFL, but the DSFL part was fun for me!
Gbeck765:
Let's move on to talking some about the ISFL. You were a pretty coveted prospect by teams. Talk to me about how your scouting conversations went with teams. Did everyone reach out to you? You ultimately fell in love with the Colorado Locker Room. What stuck out about their locker room to you?
G2019 :
Most teams reached out to me...some with kind of a token scouting session and pretty late in the game, but many early on. I had great conversations with many teams, and there are great users on all of the ISFL teams, but Colorado is just different. It reminds me a ton of the Norfolk locker room; a ton of activity, a ton of positivity, and a group that genuinely enjoys each others' company...not simply a bunch of people sitting around waiting for the next sim. They have absolutely fantastic users, and I've made no secret of the fact that Schwarz, Isa, Tesla, Woelkers, Ephy, etc. are all fantastic users and human beings. It just made sense that I would want to join a team that had those members in the LR. Special shout-out to Schwarz, who is the singular most helpful user I have encountered in this league and is a huge reason that we get new creates to stick around and learn to really enjoy and love the league. My experience could be completely different had she not been so supportive and helpful when I was starting out (heck, she still is today), and I'm honored to now consider her a friend
.
Gbeck765:
That is really great to get your insight on that. I don't know all of them but can vouch that Isa (as mentioned earlier) and Schwarz are fantastic folks and users. Going into the draft I was really anxious to see how things played out for you. Considering your openness to be drafted there I was really curious to see if their war room in Colorado would trade up to get you or risk someone else taking you. There were so many great prospects In this draft that I had no clue how things would end up turning out. Once I saw Col trade up I knew it had to be for you. It is not every season that we see someone be public about their hope to be drafted to a specific team. What kind of reactions did you receive from teams or other users once you put that out publicly? Now that you are officially in their locker room, have you had talks about your immediate future? Will the DSFL see the reigning defense player of the year return to Norfolk to defend his crown? Are you going to stay at line backer for COL?
G2019 :
As far as being public about my hope to be drafted to Colorado, I knew I was putting myself out there a bit, and it was hard. I feel like I handled this as respectfully as I could...I told teams that Colorado was where I wanted to be, but if they drafted me they would get my 100%, and I was prepared to honor that. It was difficult to feel like I was disappointing people by not having their team be my preferred team, but most people were really understanding and accepting of that. I like to think that they understood that I am a man of integrity and meant what I said...I really was ready to play for any team that drafted me. In speaking with ISFL scouts, I made it pretty clear that, unless I was needed immediately, I'd love to return to Norfolk for another season or two. I love what we have going, and I think we are set for an outstanding season here. I have no issue staying down and grinding TPE until I can make a big impact for Colorado. As it stands, I am set to join a future linebacking corps with LaCarpetron Dukemarriott, which should be exciting to watch, but the Yeti also know that I am willing to swap as needed to a few other positions, if they'd prefer.
Gbeck765:
Well that while your isfl debut will have to wait, I for one am pumped to see you lead the vaunted Norfolk defense this upcoming season. We have experienced some rough seasons in Norfolk over the last few seasons, but I truly believe that is something that is going to be changing this season. Talk to me about your expectations for this upcoming season and how the locker room is feeling as the season approaches. Side note here, I have to give a shout out to Negs here. In his first dsfl draft he selected 4 future first round isfl selections and now has the team in position to contend. He is general manager of the year in my book. Just two seasons ago during my rookie dsfl year. My entire Norfolk rookie class got called up to the isfl. It is amazing to see where the team is now.
G2019 :
We are absolutely hyped in Norfolk. We took our lumps last season, but really came together as a team and a family, so we're excited to pull some solid win numbers this season. A playoff run is the goal, potentially even an Ultimini. We were lucky enough to lose only one player to an ISFL call-up, and are very confident in our recent draftees, and we really feel like this is our time. To give you an idea, going into last season we had ZERO capped players. Going into this season, we will have NINE to start the season, with others who will likely cap during the season. Negs is a FANTASTIC user, a good friend, and we'd love to have success for ourselves as a team, and for him individually. He's been so positive and motivational in our locker room and has worked so hard for us...I'd love nothing more than to get him an Ultimini!
Gbeck765:
Yeah Negs is absolutely great! One thing I have never asked you but, have wondered is what some of your future goals may be? Knowing you, I could see you one day being a general manger or beyond. Have you given any thoughts to league jobs or set any goals for further involvement in the league? Side note- I have loved all of the media you have put out this off season. The interviews you have done and I have done have kept the media page pretty live lol. Together we make a heck of a news team!
G2019 :
Thanks for asking! I would love to be a DSFL GM and then an ISFL GM. I love the management, the scouting, the drafting, and the overall building of a culture and a team, and I feel like I would take a lot of the things currently being done right in Norfolk and utilize those same things. I would love to step into a DSFL GM role within the next few seasons, so stay tuned
. Your interviews have been great, which is why I'm hyped you agreed to interview me once again! Let's keep that media page rollin'!
Gbeck765:
You are one of my favorite people on here so it is always a pleasure any time I get to do something like this with you on here. As we begin to close this interview out, I did want to make sure I gave a shoutout to future hall of famer, Mrs. McHitts! I love that you were able to get your spouse to join, and think that adds so much fun to the league as well. I honestly did not follow the DSFL draft very closely due to how busy work has been. Were we able to get her into Norfolk to be with you?
G2019 :
Thanks for mentioning my better half! Super excited to bring her into the league so she could see what it's all about. She's loving the community aspect most of all, which is my favorite part, as well. We were able to get her in Norfolk, and our war room decided she was a slam dunk pick at 2nd overall (ironically, the same pick I was taken with last season). She's gone above and beyond all expectations...earning TPE, posting media, and being super active in the locker room. We really believe she will be a huge asset to us on the offensive line and allow what should be an extremely lethal offense to thrive!
Gbeck765:
That is so awesome! I am pumped to hear that she got taken in Norfolk! Your journeys in the league will be a lot of fun to cover and follow as the seasons continue to progress! Thanks so much for taking your time to interview with me again! Also, my apologies for the delay - work got unexpectedly crazy this week. Before signing off of here, is there anything else that you would like to add?
G2019 :
No worries, you are worth the wait
. I just want to give a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me in my journey in this league. I'm having an absolute blast, and I hope it only gets even more fun as I continue along! Thanks, GBeck!
Gbeck765:
Have a great night!
