It was a casual Thursday afternoon for Mr. Sloan when the phone rang.
bzzt bzzt
It was Tyron Shields.
"Hey Oliver, how's the offseason treating you?"
"Good man what's up?"
"So remember before the draft when you said you would be willing to switch positions?"
"...Yeah...what's up?"
"How does Defensive End sound?"
Kinda a shocker, but sounds fun!
"Sounds great!"
"Thanks! Podcast later?"
"Definetely!"
Now the first thing in Oliver's mind was the diet, 230 pounds wasn't gonna cut it for an edge rusher. He cooked up some penne pasta and some marinara to get his mind set on the new goals, 265-280 was a nice area to aim for. After that, he got the open flame ready and made some smores. Why not you know. And before bed, a quick milkshake to finish his night. A new chapter was beginning for Mr. Sloan, and he was prepared.
He showed up at 235 a few days later, don't worry it was muscle! But a few noticed.
"Balliver, you are gonna look like Zion if you don't stop doing that!" A few chuckled but it was really the dad jokes from Buford that killed it.
"Why should you bring two pairs of pants to a golf course...in case you get a hole in one!"
Many were silent, expect for Oliver who bursted out laughing. Dad jokes in the Sloan household were as common as water, if you didn't laugh, you were too serious, let life flow you know? Nothing like an Andrew Sloan joke.
It was a bit after practice, Oliver was a rookie this season and taking it all in. The big stage was finally here. He was about to play in the ISFL and leave a slight mark in history. He went to a local park and decided to shoot some hoops, when a familiar voice said, "Oliver!"
His high school point guard, London Fultz, was at the park.
Oliver played basketball in high school, wasn't the best but was varsity, Fultz was a big name player. Ended up getting a full ride to Fresno State and drafted 15th overall in the draft by the Bulls. Worked out perfectly with Oliver. They had a nice talk, life was different, both were millionaires, and Fultz beat Oliver 21-10 in basketball. It was a nice day.
The big stage was near, and while this may be short, I felt like a nice article for Oliver was needed. So if you read it thank you for your time.
