Hello diary, it has been a very very long time since the last time I have written in you. I've been very busy and since football is over for the football season I finally have time to write in you. I gotta tell you it feels good to be able to write again. I'll first start off by saying me and my wife finally had our baby! And it was a boy! I couldn't be more happier. That was definitely the best day in my life when we were introduced to our little guy. I let my wife name him and all though I don't agree with the name she's making me let her name it. You know how it goes, whatever she wants is what happens. I think it's a little tacky to name your kid after yourself but that's what she wanted to do. So my son is Glenn McPoyal jr. He is a great kid doesn't cry much and he's always smiling. Definitely makes my days better. I got to pick the room theme since she picked his name. And let's just say she wasn't very happy with me. I got someone in there to make giant stickers of transformers. Ya know bumblebee and of course Optimus prime are up there. She didn't think the giant guns were appropriate for a new born baby but I told her it was staying. It cost me in my bedroom though, if you know what I mean. Sorry about that but I figured I'd explain my long absence from my diary. Of course I guess it doesn't really matter because when you read this it'll be as soon as you turn the page from my last post. I guess I should get back on the whole football subject here. So as you all know I am a now a Yellowknife Wraith. One of the best football teams to ever been here. I'll briefly go over preseason with you all since you know, preseason doesn't mean a thing. But anyways, the first game of the preseason we played the Philadelphia Liberty. It comes to no surprise at all that we beat them thirty to seven. Last season the Philadelphia Liberty really sucked so none of us were surprised. The next game we played the Colorado Yeti. We actually lost that game twenty three to twenty. That was embarrassing but again it was just preseason so no big deal. Our third preseason game was against the Arizona outlaws. We beat them one hundred and five to seven. Now that is absolutely unheard of in football. Until you hear how it happened. They didn't want anyone In the league to know what their strategy was. So they played wide receivers in defense and quarterback on defense and it was just a big ugly mess for them. But it kind of worked out in a way too. Our last preseason game was against the brand new team, the New Orleans Second Line. They used to be the Las Vegas Legion but they packed up their bags and ran off to New Orleans. But anyways, we beat them forty eight to fourteen. Again not too big of a surprise because Las Vegas also sucked so it wasn't too shocking. So we ended up finishing our preseason three and one. Not too bad but again it doesn't mean a damn thing when regular season starts. And it was getting ready to start. Of course before the regular season started I had to buy new cleats, new gloves and new shoulder pads. I of course stayed late after practice and spent some extra time with my coach. After all of that I felt like I was primed for a good season with my new team. I was told I wouldn't be starting tight end because they already had one in Franklin Harris junior. They thought that he had lost interest and had no more desire to get better so I would be starting with the Wraiths as early as next season. Until then though I had to be the second tight end in a two tight end set and also the number three wide receiver. That wasn't a big deal for me though. I know I'll eventually be starting and I know I'll be the best tight end in the league. So here it is. Our first game. I was so excited for this I couldn't hardly wait. The first game of the year was against a division rival in the Philadelphia Liberty. Liberty started out with the ball to begin the game. Our defense showed strength though and didn't let them get anywhere. They would turn the ball over on downs. We took over on our own forty two yard line. Not too terrible to start. We marched down the field until about their ten yard line. Mat Akselsen, our quarterback told me he was going to throw it to me If I were open. Turn out I was open. I caught the ball in the end zone for a ten yard touchdown catch. Pretty surreal if you ask me. My first catch in the big leagues and it was a ten yard touchdown catch. That's a moment that will stay with me until I die. At that point we were up seven to zero. Unfortunately their next possession they would also score a touchdown. Making us tied at seven all. The Wraiths next drive I wasn't involved in. But we still marched down and scored a field goal. Made the game ten to seven Wraiths lead. Philadelphia's next possession they got one first down and punted. The Wraiths next series was up. I was targeted but unfortunately I couldn't hold onto the ball and I dropped it. The very next play our quarterback Mat Akselsen rushed for a sixty six yard touchdown. We were up at that point seventeen to seven. I was feeling pretty confident in our capabilities but it was still just the first quarter so anything could happen. Unfortunately my wife is waking up so I have to go. I will see you in my next entry! Okay it's been a few days but I am back and ready to tell you more about the first game and the rest of the games for my rookie year. Let's get back into the first game! So when I finished we were just done with the first quarter. So now it's the second quarter and the Philadelphia Liberty have the ball. They have a huge play for a forty two yard pass. Four players later they would score a touchdown. It was a one yard rush from their running back. It was fourteen to seventeen and our lead just got a whole lot smaller. Our next drive didn't go anywhere. Although I did have an eleven yard catch. After we punted it the Philadelphia Liberty had the ball. They went a quick and easy three and out. And before we knew it we were back out on the field. That didn't last long though. Mat Akselsen fumbled the ball on third down. Luckily he got the ball back and then we punted it back to Philadelphia. A few plays later Oles throws a seventeen yard touchdown pass to their star tight end Paul DiMirio. All the sudden we were behind twenty one to seventeen. I started freaking out a little but still early in the game. Our next series was another three and out I was starting to get worried. Our offense had been getting stale. Luckily their next offensive series was also short lived. They went three and out and punted it back to us. Our next series started out with a sack and would end with two incomplete passes in a row. Another three and out and punt. Philadelphia had the ball next but luckily time was running out for them. They were driving down the field but the time expired and we were in the locker room for the the half. We come out third quarter pretty determined to get our offense started again. Unfortunately that was not the case.. our first play of the second half was a fumble. It was recovered by one of us though. We would go three and out yet again that drive. Philadelphia would also go three and out on their first series back from halftime. The Wraiths next play was a pass to me. I had an eight yard reception. The next play was also to me. This time it was a sixteen yard reception. We would end up stalling out and not scoring that drive. We punted it to them but unfortunately they returned it sixty nine yards. Their offense couldn't go anywhere but because of that punt return they ended up getting a field goal. Making the score twenty four to seven. Philadelphia still up. Same old story with the Wraiths. Another three and out. And the same story with the liberty. Another field goal making the score now twenty seven to seventeen. We were up by ten points and now we were trailing by ten points. It definitely sucks. Our next drive we of course went three and out. Started to get frustrating for everyone on the team. And of course Philadelphia would March down the field and score another field goal. Making it thirty to seventeen. Making our deficit by thirteen now. It was time for a change. And I sure hope we could something. Anything. But as luck would have it Mat Akselsen threw an interception on third down. They would go on to kick a field goal making it thirty three to seventeen. We got at least one first down next drive but it ended up in a punt. The next series for Philadelphia they threw an interception and it turns out it was pick six! We were all suddenly super happy excited and felt the moment shift. It was then thirty three to twenty four. We would go on later In that game a score another touchdown. Mat Akselsen would throw a nine yard touchdown pass to Bailey cook. Unfortunately that is just about where the game ends. The final score is thirty three to thirty. We lost against the damn Philadelphia Liberty. It was pretty embarrassing at first because of their history. It should of been a win but oh well we couldn't dwell on the past. Just learn from our mistakes and get better. We started off the season zero and one. Which definitely sucked. So our next game is here. After a week of practice we felt pretty confident and we all felt pretty strong. Of course that was because we played the Colorado Yeti. It was an away game so we played in Colorado. They're a notoriously bad team so we figured we'd crush them. Oh but before we start I'll you know how I did in my first game ever! I had seven catches for seventy five yards. That's an average of ten point seven yards per catch. Which is pretty damn good. My long was seventeen and of course I had that touchdown catch. But anyways back to the Colorado Yeti game. The first drive of the game I wasn't even targeted unfortunately. But Mat Akselsen threw a six yard touchdown pass to Bailey cook. It was pretty nice getting our offense back in style with a touchdown. Unfortunately this is the part where I have to cut out early. I have written two diary entries here in the past couple nights so I hope you enjoyed reading this. Unfortunately I have to get out of bed. My wife is dead asleep next to me. Mostly because it's three in the morning. I can't sleep so I decided to crack open this old thing and let the pen flow. I have to get up here soon and change Glenn McPoyal Jrs. Diaper. I can hear him crying in his bedroom and I don't want my wife to wake up from it.
