Okay, so we all know that preseason means nothing, but in celebration of the continued Fitz v Biz rivalry, let’s see how each QB measured up over 4 games of preseason. @Molarpistols
Completions:
Showbiz: 107
Fitzpatrick: 94
13 completions over 4 games may not seem like a lot, but remember this is only over 4 games, and last year Showbiz also led in yards per completion, so this will likely mean a significant difference in…
Passing Yards:
Showbiz: 1224
Fitzpatrick: 1082
Not only does Showbiz have the win here, but it’s a significant one, 35.5 yards per game. Despite a lot of hype about Fitz becoming more involved in the offense, all signs point to him taking a more conservative approach and Showbiz once again being the higher volume passer, on pace for over 4,200 yards.
Touchdowns:
Showbiz: 5
Fitzpatrick: 12
Despite the lower passing yards, this is a huge win for Fitzpatrick. Like last year, Fitzpatrick had more touchdowns despite throwing the ball a lot less. It’s an odd contradiction, and the difference definitely bodes too well for Fitzpatrick, who only threw 17 TDs all last season. For Showbiz, 5 TDs is actually about right, putting him on pace for 15-20 TDs.
Interceptions:
Showbiz: 5
Fitzpatrick: 4
An unsurprising win here for Fitzpatrick, who threw 1 less interception along with 142 fewer yards.
Rushing Yards:
Showbiz: 24
Fitzpatrick: 91
With the retirement of Akselsen, Fitzpatrick is set up to become the premier rushing QB in the league…eventually. His yards over a 14 game season would come out to 318 yards, but with 0 rushing TDs.
Sacks:
Showbiz: 19
Fitzpatrick: 6
Again…wow. Fitzpatrick’s ability to avoid sacks has definitely been a key to his success, but last year the difference was a lot less pronounced.
Matchup:
Showbiz: 1-0
Fitzpatrick: 0-1
The third preseason game brought Orange County to Arizona where, despite home field advantage, Arizona lost 24-6. This has definitely been a trend. In 2 DSFL games, 2 preseason NSFL games, and 2 season games, Fitzpatrick is 2-4 against Showbiz, and has yet to beat him in the NSFL season.
TANY/A
Showbiz: 4.48
Fitzpatrick: 6.80
For Showbiz, this is basically the same rate he played at last year, but we all know that he has improved and that his receiving corps certainly has as well. For Fitzpatrick, this was surely more efficient than we can expect, right? Yeah. Let’s talk about why.
Offensive System:
Showbiz: The best WR duo in the league (Crush and Atwell) is nothing to laugh at. Add in Josh Garden, Zephyrous splitting time between FB and TE, and Adams, who has the best hands of all RBs in the league, and there is no shortage of weapons. In addition, expect the extremely explosive Jaylon Broxton, and Showbiz can throw all day long. As for the sacks, they will decline considerably with the center being upgraded from the preseason roster. It isn’t a huge upgrade, but it should be enough to buy Showbiz the time he needs.
Fitzpatrick: Viggo Squanch stepped up his game big time from S9, and looks like he’s good enough to be the top receiver on a real offense. With Browning opposite him, Wachter moves into a depth role. The big advantage Fitz has is Balthazar Crindy at TE. He was very quiet last year, posting only 500 yards and 1 TD, but he will be the breakout player of the year. In preseason, he caught for over 200 yards and 3 TDs, showing himself to be not only a great blocker, but also a reliable target up the middle of the field. Unfortunately, his offensive line will not be what it was in preseason. With less free money under the cap, Arizona downgraded from last year, but the old line was still in the index.
Schedule:
Showbiz had 3 games on the road, and his opponents included Baltimore, Yellowknife, Arizona, and Colorado. Fitzpatrick, on the other hand, had 2 games at home, and got to play Philadelphia and San Jose along with New Orleans and Orange County.
Final prediction:
Showbiz will face an easier schedule than he did in the preseason and be behind a better offensive line. With those significant upgrades, plus a massive preseason update, I think Showbiz will be the better QB, though not be a large margin.
