He's a little known player but I really believe that Thomas Carrasco is going to become a star on the field this year.
He won't be blowing people out of the water with the yards he gets, but he's gonna be steady on the ground, score some touchdowns and handle the ball a lot. Thomas Carrasco is a fairly unknown player coming from humble stock in the DSFL. He doesn't have the most talent (TPE) or the best credentials, but he paid his dues in the lower leagues and earned a shot at the big times. The coaches in Yellowknife definitely saw something in the young star and were happy with his fall to them in the draft. Carrasco hasn't received too many carries this year but he has made use of them when he gets them. With 68 carries he has gained 284 yards and scored 2 touchdowns. With 15 yards being his longest run of the season, Carrasco has been the definition of a grinder. Receiving isn't his forte but he has been a safety valve at times with 7 catches for 40 yards. Watch out for Carrasco the rest of this season.
There is a lot, and I mean A LOT, of good talent in the Developmental Simulation Football League this season so it's hard to predict or see who might be the guy to take the jump to stardom. I think it will be someone who returns for another season and has the most experience under his belt. I would have to say that it will be Sunnycursed (@ADwyer87). In 4 games, he has 19 receptions, 278 yards, and 1 touchdown. He is also averaging 14.6 yards with his best catch for 31 yards. He's the best receiver on the Portland Pythons and is a top 3 receiver in the Developmental Simulation Football League. I think he can break out even more even though the Pythons offense is stacked with Errol Maddox, Sam Hardwick, Adrian Pitcher, and now myself on the team. He's got some of the best speed in the league and will be unstoppable once his hands are improved and he can make those big catches downfield. He's got Johnson Cox III throwing to him and Cox is a great Developmental Simulation Football League quarterback because he's got a great arm and is developing into an NSFL starter already. My pick is Sunnycursed!
If you haven't been paying attention to the DSFL lately, then you wouldn't know that this class is full of top notch wide receiver prospects who are just eyeing the spots in the NSFL as the most talented receivers the game has ever seen begin to regress into but a shell of their former selves. One such example of these up and coming young stars is Kansas City Coyotes wide out and route running receiver Eddie Rainer, otherwise known as Krispy Kreme due to contract legalities. Kreme is a massive part of the Coyotes team and is one of the major reasons their passing game is doing so well this season. Widely considered one of the players with the best hands in the league, Kreme has been a receiving threat for the Coyotes all season long and currently sits in the top quarter of all receivers in yards while posting a solid yards per reception. You can expect him to continue to get better until he sits atop the list, and be likely to break out next season when returns to Kansas City in order to catch balls for Luke Boechler, who alongside him will only continue to improve as the two mature.
Jerrod Canton for the Sabercats is the next star in this league. Not only is he a stud all on his own, but he's in the perfect environment to succeed, the same place his predecessor played, a team desperate for a star RB. Coming out of a dominant season for the Kansas City Coyotes in the DSFL, Canton immediately made his debut with the San Jose Sabercats. He made his case as a dominant RB in the DSFL with over 1600 yards as a rookie, the most in the league, and fell to 18th overall in the NSFL draft. Despite that slide, he's shown up and proved that he's the next big name in the league, with already 460 yards in the NSFL, 2nd most in the league. Not only has he proved in the DSFL, as a rookie, that he can be a star, he's also already proving, again, as a rookie, that he is and will be a star at the NSFL level. There may have been doubters at the draft, but there should be no doubters now. He's surpassed 100 yards in each of his 4 NSFL games, reaching 138 yards in week 2. Everything you want to get out of your RB, especially one so young, he's delivered on.
