With the recent announcement of the declaration of the latest Heisman winner, Lucius Kaine, into the next DSFL draft pool, fans around the league are going wild as the tension grows for yet another season of professional football. With one of the best draft classes in league history currently finishing off their rookie campaign in the DSFL, there isn't a whole lot of room to add players for most DSFL teams, and the idea of a possible expansion could be on the early horizon. With a number of big draft classes in a row due to the retirement of many early league players and their transition into the rules of alumni player agents, now more than ever are elite talents wanting to play among the greats of the NSFL.
When you think of wide receiving talent, who is the first person who comes to mind for you? Is it Bradley Westfield, the legendary Orange County Otter wide receiver who led his team to three straight Ultimus Championships? Or is it Trey Willie, the quiet and long time leader of a locker room in Baltimore that has felt heartbreak after heartbreak since they begun their journey towards the championship before finally reaching their dream last season. Maybe it's Howard Miller, the prodigal son of the Colorado Yeti and the last remaining piece in yet another travesty of a rebuild attempt for the mountain franchise. All of these players hold one thing in common, and that being players who will define their era at not only their position, but for the game. And now, we have our next game changer.
Lucius Kaine grew up in small town Troy, Ohio, a small city that boasts a population of only twenty five thousand. Despite it's size, Kaine had anything but humble beginnings as he grew in a community that was mostly rich and in the top one percent. His life was already set, and he had the likelihood of being given a free college education from birth, but handouts were never his thing. With strong life lessons instilled in him and a capability to understand the importance of building your own empire, Kaine set out on a journey to make his life mean something, and to not just be another trust fund baby.
As his life progressed, it became evident that his way of changing his life would be through a football career. His career took off during high school where he played with an insane level of intensity that was unseen by any players his age at the time. His ability to simply throw himself completely into every game was envied by opposing coaches and parents alike, who saw that same fire inside their players and children but didn't know how to bring it out. Kaine found his mark, and quickly found his way into the scouting manual of the Ohio State Buckeyes, who among other teams from across the nation sent out their invitations for him to visit their training camp in the spring. Kaine graciously accepted, heading off to meet the players that not even he knew would become such close brothers to him over the next four years.
Kaine spent his college years doing the typical things you would expect of a seventeen year old kid who was just handed a massive scholarship, he partied hard and payed harder. Kaine made sure that his career wasn't going to end when college did, and he quickly began to catch the eye of many NFL scouts. After conversations with the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kaine had nearly decided that he was destined for the prestigious halls of the NFL before suddenly he was approached by a home town hero of his, long time NSFL quarterback Logan Noble. While Noble's career had been tainted by the accusations against him of steroid usage, he was still a model quarterback in Kaine's eyes, and after some careful coddling, Logan Noble convinced Kaine to join the ranks of the S13 NSFL Draft Class.
So that brings us to where we are today. With the playoffs beginning next week for both the NSFL and DSFL, the season is coming to a close. And there are only bigger things coming. Kaine has come.
