[Ready to be graded]
Throughout the first few weeks of the DSFL season, we have had the chance to see many things that we all expected, like specific teams not performing very well overall, but we have also had the chance to see many unexpected things as well. One of these many things happens to be the emergence of the Portland Python's offense. Going into the season, the Pythons were obviously being considered as serious contenders for the DSFL title, and so far, they have definitely played like a contender. Although, nobody could have predicted how they got to the position they are in right now. After a very defensive heavy draft, the Pythons were expected to be a very "defensive-sided" team and to rely on their defense to win games. Their defense has played very well in the first few games, allowing the second fewest total points scored against and giving up the fewest yards/game on average. Although their defense has played at such a high level, it is actually their offense that has surprised everyone. The Pythons offense currently has the most total yards/game and the second most pts/game. This offense is lead by none other than the Franklin Armstrong, the 63rd overall pick in the S15 DSFL draft. Although Armstrong was one of the top rated QB's in the draft, nobody expected him to be leading the league passing TD's, 5, completion percentage, 65%, and QB rating, 97.3. In fact, he wasn't even expected to start immediately for the Portland Pythons when they drafted him, but their quarterback decided to continue his career into the NSFL. Although Armstrong has garnered a lot of attention for his excellent play, there is one huge aspect of Portland's offense that they are overlooking, the running game. The Python's don't have a running back in the top three of rushing yards, which has caused many teams to overlook this part of their offense. Even though they don't have an RB in the top three, they have two running backs in the top 7! Also, Smallwood is leading the league in rushing TD's, with 6 in just 4 games. Combined, the Pythons actually have the most total rushing yards, 804, and rushing touchdowns, 10, in the league on only 137 total attempts. They are averaging over 200 rushing yards each game, which is an insane statistic! The Python's have surprised a lot of people with their play-style this season, and one of their most lethal aspects is still being overlooked. The Portland Pythons are loaded with talent all throughout both sides of their roster, and although nothing can be guaranteed this early in the season, they are clearly aiming for more than just the DSFL playoffs this season.
