Really good podcast! Glad to see a newer player jumping straight into the hard hitting topics like this.
As for the first topic, I don't think you're that clueless of a rookie at all. I remember pointing this same issue out in the S15 DSFL draft (link below) when spec recreated when the draft was nearly over, with only inactives available, and was immediately drafted to a team we all assumed was where he wanted to be. I was basically assured by other league vets that this was merely coincidence (still not buying it) and it was just the DSFL anyway so it didn't really matter. There were also suggestions that it had happened in the past and was a open secret. To be fair, if you check the S15 DSFL index, you can see that it didn't effect the outcome of the league after all as Tijuana lost in the first round of the playoffs. Whether foul play was involved or not, you're 100% right that it's not fair to DSFL GM's trying to build a winning team when a prospect isn't available to them. Solutions to this issue should be considered. S15 DSFL Draft I can see this being fixed relatively easily. We already release an off-season schedule, so everyone knows when the DSFL pre-draft begins. Recreates should have to be submitted by the start of the pre-draft or they go to waivers the same way they would if they created after the draft. New creates shouldn't be subjected to this same rule. As unknown commodities, we have to assume that there is no motivation the game the system and that they have no knowledge of any friends who have already been drafted. Free agency and the bex thing is a non-issue imo. When a player is no longer under contract it doesn't matter where they go. That's their choice. No compensation is necessary. When GMs scout for the draft process every good GM asks if the player is interested in signing long term. If they don't it's similar to the A's drafting Kyler Murray without a guarantee he'd sign. Then they agree a contract with that player. If a player doesn't sign, there are rules that prevent them from earning TPE (I think), so they really don't have leverage to demand a 1 year contract. So one year contracts are usually given in good faith, which is by its very nature a risk that the team is taking. Sometimes they end up losing on that bet. But again. Great job! Enjoyed the listen. Keep delving into this drama man. PS Nice touch with the Arctic Monkeys intro ![]() ![]() |
