I'm going to jump on the PDXBaller bandwagon here. I don't have a great grasp on NSFL rosters yet, so I'm going with what I know. PDX is not only a great DSFL GM and a shoe in for DSFL GM of the Year, but he's a tremendous ambassador for the league. I joined the league without much understand of the sim, player builds, and a general lay of the land. PDX did an amazing job of introducing himself and answer a few pressing questions I had, all of this within a day of creating my player, before he even signed me to the Portland Pythons.
Now let's talk about his success on the field. After building a championship winning team last season in the DSFL and orchestrating a prolific offense, PDX is at it again. This season's team is on an inside track to making it's way to the championship once again. The offense is clicking once again and the defense has been playing at a really high level. His most recent signing, Thomas Kane III, has already made an impact for the Pythons in his first few weeks of action. That's the PDX magic touch. No matter how the season finishes, it's painstakingly clear PDX is a master of on-boarding, recognizing, and organizing DSFL talent.

I think that Colorado Yeti CB Andre Bly Jr. (@sapp2013) should be in the running for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Bly has been AMAZING for the Yeti. Besides being a locker room leader, he’s getting it done on the field too. In 12 games so far, Bly has recorded 63 tackles, good for 4th among cornerbacks. Bly Jr. has picked the ball off four times, which has him ranked 4th in the league (first among CBs) and he’s got 14 pass deflections, which is good for 4th in the league as well. He also returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown. As a returner, Bly has 2 kick return touchdowns. He’s been everything and more for Colorado, one of the few bright spots in what has been a dismal rebuilding season. In fact, its pretty fair to say that Bly Jr. should win the Defensive Rookie of the Year easily, and actually be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year because of his pretty sick numbers. He’s been constantly keeping the Yeti players upbeat and excited for the future in the locker room, which is important because sometimes all of this losing can really crush morale. I can personally say that he’s uplifted me more than a few times after a few bad games. He’s a very deserving candidate. (222)

Darren Smallwood. Comeback player of the year. I know, I know sounds kind of dumb and really stupid. After all, Kennedy finally broke out, but he’s the offensive player of the year. I’m talking about me. Hear me out. At the end of season 2, I finished the league as one of the most efficient receivers, suspensions and depth charts derailed the seasons following from then until now. Listed as “the most disappointing player” and “everyone’s favorite mediocre receiver” Smallwood managed to get a total of 7 TDs and 1042 yards, between both seasons 3 and 4 combined. It was not a good time at all. But then as he switched to running back a light went on and he just became a monster on the field once more. Right now, Smallwood leads his fellow backs by rushing TDs by a good number. He has nearly two times the number of rushing touchdowns as the next closest person, Reg Mackworthy, sits fourth in yards gained for being third in attempts. Is Smallwood the greatest back? No. Taylor has been nothing short of the best rushing back and Kennedy kills on the pass game, but Smallwood has made a change from this season to last that puts him in the comeback player talks.

With the season winding down soon the awards committee will be coming together and making their choices for various awards. Pick a player/gm you feel deserves an award and write about why they do. Include 1 statistic and what award you think they should win. So let me tell you about my home boy Stephan Harris yeah. The lad with the golden foot. This is the crazy lad I want to give kicker of the year to. Harris has always been one of the most solid kickers in the league. Having missed only 1 extra point and 1 field goal so far this season, Harris has proved year and year that he is one of the best accuracy kickers. This guy will not be missing alot of kicks any time soon. Think distance is a problem for the lad? Just take a look at his 56 yarders and you`ll see he can do em both. A very well balanced kicker if you ask me. 97.2% extra points going 35/36 so far this season and a 95.2% on field goals going 20/21. These are numbers that you look at as a kicker and smile a little bit. You want these season in, season out and Harris is getting them. Easily my favorite guy on the field. So yeah write Harris down for kicker of the year or decade or w/e, give this man more silverware. Leading FG% and a close 2nd on XP% should give him the upper hand.
The award voting will be conducted soon and you'll probably see a glaring omission from one of the awards. Bayley should be given the GM of the year award for what he has been able to do in keeping the Sabercats healthy going forward. Unlike the Arizona GM who had steroid users on his squad and signed the leagues second best receiver last year, Bayley has done a commendable job. The Outlaws might have a better record right now but at the same time they probably have some cheaters somewhere on their roster. Bayley has led his team to a 7-5 roster in a conference marred by steroid use and that in itself is a huge accomplishment. His biggest competition will probably be the Orange County GM because he himself has also led a team without steroid users to a above .500 record in a conference with the Outlaws. While we are at it with this award, they should strip the Outlaws GM of any past GM awards for his knowing inclusion in the scandal this past off-season. I'm hoping the award committee take a long hard look at who they are handing awards out too and see if there is a scandal in behind the scenes.

I believe that Cordell Joshua of the Kansas City Coyotes deserves strong consideration for DSFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. Despite not being available for the DSFL draft Joshua has worked hard throughout this season to develop his talents and become a key player on a Coyotes team that was defined by a lack of defensive talent outside of several top contributors. Joshua leads the DSFL in tackles for loss with 17 and leads the DE position group in total tackles by a large margin with 55. Joshua has also displayed excellent positional flexibility throughout the season, playing a 4-3 DE role for the first 10 games of the season before proving he could also excel rushing the passer from an OLB spot in KCC’s new look 3-4 scheme instituted by new management. The response to the change was nothing short of incredible, with Joshua tallying a 29 || 4 || 2 stat line in the four games the Coyotes utilized the new scheme and playing a big role in that defense getting noticeably better down the stretch. Joshua has been a great all around defensive player and stopped the run like no other player in the DSFL this season, particularly no other rookie. He will get a shot at Defensive Rookie of the Year and in my opinion entirely deserves that honor.
