Well, this offseason, Zach Skinner made three very significant purchases. Firstly, he bought a much larger house in Nashville, in his home state of Tennessee, for well over one million dollars. It took his girlfriend, and now fiance, pushing him for years to move out of his smaller, suburban home, but now that they are engaged, he saw fit to buy a larger residency in order to raise their family in. He held on to his old house, however, seeing as he could rent it out to provide another income source, and plans to purchase more in order to do the same thing, preparing for life after football.

Of course, the engagement ring, which he bought previously, was another hefty purchase, and one of the most important, symbolically, of his life. Said ring was very expensive, and thankfully, she said yes when he proposed.

And, finally, that last purchase was on a puppy. With Skinner's great dane, Beowulf, growing older, he saw fit to buy a puppy that could use the dane as an example. That dog was a female german shepherd, also known as an Alsatian Shepherd. He named the pup 'Alsatian Sensation,' or Alice for short.

So, most of those purchases were to prepare to start a family for the veteran defensive lineman, but all of them were worthwhile investments.

Dick moved to Yellowknife almost as soon as he was drafted. He took care of signing with the team early and within two weeks of being in the small city, he was looking at available homes. By the beginning of summer he'd made an offer and had it accepted. Dick's new house was a two story, three bedroom with an acre of land behind it and views of the nearby lake and woods. It was spacious and perfect for the rookie running back. Immediately he moved in and got together with a contractor to make some changes. A gym are with an enclosed heated pool and sauna were first on the list. Of course, there was only so much money in his contract so Dick took a little time to sign some fairly lucrative endorsement deals that exceed what the team was paying him right away.

The gym area of the house was completed by the end of summer, just before the season was set to start. Dick and his contractor laid out the next part of his plan. A portion of the expansive backyard was being enclosed and turned into a heated firepit and lounge. The project had really only just gotten started in the week before the season started, but already Dick was enjoying his new home in his new city, and the heated pool that was a short walk from his bedroom.

For KAM, the 'extra' coin he has left over really isn't a lot to be honest. Sure making 2 million a season is nice and all, but the leagues salary structure is so weak/ low that truly for most players it's hard to save up for retirement in such a demanding sport when the league is so readily short changing their players both for longevity in the league and for having a comfortable retirement. So where do we go from here for the budding star DE? Well he has to cut a lot of corners when it comes to spending. From eating Ramen and frozen veggies to save the extra buck, to owning his own vegetable garden to try and grow his own food. For someone in his line of work, having protein on a regular basis is super important, but due to the negative impact of the beef market and many other animal by products he has had to find alternative routes to meet this need. Protein powder has become a staple of his everyday diet, with many other secondary sources having to fill the void. The poor guy doesn't want to eat like he's a vegan, but do to his personal concerns for the environment and the total lack of real pay available in the league, his options are limited.

The one thing that I did special this season with some of the money left over from training and equipment is I donated to my local high school that I attended a couple years back. The football club there is great but there is for sure room for improvement, I wanted to make sure they had the best equipment, news balls and I wanted to give them the opportunity to play the best they can. It feels good to donate to somewhere I grew up. Another thing that I did this season was I bought my mom a brand new car, she has a jeep that is over 200,000 KM and it was on its way out, it was awesome to see her face when she walked out and saw the bow on the hood, it is something I will never forget and the least I could do because she’s helped me get me where I am today and the reason I am able to do this. Hopefully one day im able to help them pay off their house and they will no longer have a mortgage for the rest of their life. It feels good to do these things and its something im going to continue to do every season is help out someone who has helped me get here.

While equipment is important, Tommy Helanen knows that the top priority is paying living expenses. After budgeting money for apartment rent, food, and gasoline, he will be looking to see if it is possible to upgrade his car, since his car is 6 years old and has a lot of miles on it. He is looking for a burgundy pickup truck, because that's been his dream car for years. He also will need to use some money to take care of his cat, Snickers, for things such as cat food and cat litter. Any leftover money will go toward concert tickets, as Tommy Helanen wants to see KISS on their final tour. While concerts are pricey, Helanen has always been an avid concertgoer and doesn't want that to change. According to him, music is always better live. His dad and his brother are both huge KISS fans, so he'll want to buy two tickets for them to tag along as well. Of course, he'll also bring money to pick up some merch while he is there; rocking band T-shirts is an art.

And while all of these things have been self-centered, any additional money he has remaining is intended to be given to the Make A Wish foundation, which tries to bring happiness to children with cancer. Tommy feels that it is a very noble organization, and he would be honored to support their mission.

Jonathan Rice grew up in a rough part of southern Ohio, and then went to another rough part of his life in Akron, Ohio. So while many would spend their money on non-essentials, Rice spends a lot of his time talking with the community leaders in the two areas. He has spent a considerable amount on putting on free football camps in his hometown of Springboro, and has even helped pay for renovations to the local YMCA, including a new wing for an indoor sports facility. For the town of Akron, he has started his own scholarship to help underprivileged youths pay for essentials not always paid for by schools, like books, laptops, and other supplies to help them keep up with other students. He also had to buy his parents a house out in the OC so that they can visit him and see his games more often as he becomes a bigger player for the Otters. He also is helping his sister through school so that she can fulfill her dream of finishing medical school and getting her doctorate. However, he still has spent some of his money on himself as he is a huge gamer, so he built a dream gaming pc with the latest RTX 2080Ti and the best CPU on the market.

Benson Harris is only on his first contract in the DSFL, so there isn’t a lot of extra to throw around. His parents taught him to always be thankful for everything he has, and to be responsible with his money, so it isn’t wasted. The first thing he did with his contract, was to trade in his old, rusted out Toyota Camry for a newer Toyota Tundra. It will be nice to have a vehicle that isn’t falling apart and can be relied on all the time. So, that is number one. The next thing he’ll do is to establish a savings account. It’s never too early to start planning for life after football, and to start squirreling away money for a winter that can come at a moment’s notice. Then, with anything left over, he will have a little bit of fun. Nothing too wild, but he will have to treat himself to a custom pair of Air Jordan 1 Retro hightops in LSU colors. These will be the start of a modest collection of Jordan’s that, while few in number, each pair will have personal significance to Benson.

Where does L'alto spend his money? thats a good question, one that L'Alto should really be paying better attention to. Honestly, he doesn't even know how much money he has in his account on any given day. Growing up in an upper middle class home he wasn't taught to watch his money hawkishly (pun intended) for want of resources nor was he taught to maximize it's value and help to grow as many of his richer friends did. Not to be misunderstood, L'Alto is very grateful for the opportunities that he has been given, especially the free ride to college on a basketball scholarship. It just hasn't taught him to be very diligent. So, he just hums along. Even as he entered the world of professional sports and had to sit through many lectures from the Tijuana and Baltimore staff about money management, so many professional athletes go broke, etc. etc. etc...he figures that as long as he doesn't spend where he doesn't need to, then he'll be alright. He always has a general idea of how much money comes in and goes out, he rarely has to charge credit, and he contributes to maximize the league's contribution to his 401k. The rest, he figures, will take care of itself.

I'm all about the business! You know, the football business that is! So when it comes to getting contract money it's important to invest yourself they say. That can take many forms. As a quarterback, it's important to take care of my mind and body when it comes to football so I use my money for professional coaching and look for the best quarterback coaches money can buy. I only have a DSFL salary though so maybe not the best but I can try looking for some good coaches to help me develop my throwing accuracy. God didn't bless me with arm strength like Cole had. I was blessed with a big brain, maybe not Fitzpatrick sized, but a big brain otherwise so I used my contract money to learn how to be a better quarterback and to throw more accurate passes. Then I used the rest of my money to get extra endurance training. I know it's key for a quarterback to be able to play an entire game and the longer I can be on the field well that's more time I can spend developing my skills in game time situations. That's the best way to use your contract money!
