(S22) - PT1 - Runnin’ Down a Dream

There are a lot of things I want to get done this season. After a somewhat disappointing Season 21 campaign, I'm eyeing another Offensive Player of the Year and Running Back of the year Trophy. Of course, winning the Ultimus is one of my goals as well, but at this point I just want to win more individual awards because I'm never going to win an Ultimus. Doesn't matter what I do, who Yellowknife adds onto the team, none of it matters and we're doomed to being the runner up every year. So I figured that if I’m going to be remembered for anything of note, it’d have to be winning more awards. I think I can get it this season, since Skyline is still relatively low TPE and Drake is being phased out of most formations in the offense, so I’m going to be the running back the team relies on in the vast majority of situations. I’m hoping that will finally give me the numbers I’ve been looking for throughout my whole career. I’ve never been ‘the guy’ in Yellowknife, I’ve always had to share a lot of carries with Drake while I’m here, but now I have a chance to have a breakout season and put my name on the map as the best running back currently in the NSFL.

Technically I was rostered last season for a short time, but I didn't see any games. Being my first season actually playing games, everything I do will be a career best. There's a chance a lot of my stats will be career bests for a while. The reason being is that I'm the highest tpe DE on my team and nearly 200 TPE at the start of the season. I've been told there's a good chance I go straight up to the NSFL next season as a DE, so right now I'm facing weaker competition by far. I'm not sure what stat a DE is best at getting, but I would love to lead either league in sacks one day, or even get on the top 10 leaderboard. The all time DSFL record is a tie for 18, I don't believe I can even think to touch that unless I start next season down in the DSFL at the 250 TPE cap. The lowest on the top 10 is 12, but I would probably need 13 to actually show up on the leaderboard. This is nearly a third less that the top and I think is realistic if I'm down next season. With a very small sample size I currently have 2 sacks in 2 weeks so there's even a chance this season, being my team's go to DE.

Heading into the S22 season, there’s only one real goal that Easton Cole of the Austin Copperheads has: Winning the Ultimus. The Copperheads are about as “all in” as they’ve ever been in their history, adding players like Ryan Leaf Jr. in an attempt to bolster their offense. Cole would truly like to have a fantastic season, and win league MVP or at least QB of the Year, but those go by the way side when it comes to the Ultimus. This is Cole’s last season before regression, and he’s maxed out. All that’s lead to is an 0-2-1 record, however. Cole has thrown an INT in each game so far, for a grand total of 5 on the season so far. He’s also thrown 5 TDs, near the top of the league in there. Also, his 766 passing yards are good for second place. Even still, it’s not the best start. Austin sits in last place in their conference, despite many pundits thinking they should be a favorite for the Ultimus. Cole’s slow start probably won’t put him in the running for MVP or QB of the Year, but a really good final 10 games of the season can still help achieve his ultimate goal: being the Ultimus champion once more. This is absolutely the case for Thorian Skarsgard. He is chasing something that isn't a league record, or even a team record. He's hunting down a personal milestone, but it definitely has a place in league history. As we stand right now, three games into the season, Skarsgard is seven sacks away from 100 for his career. There are currently only four players in league history that have achieved this prestigious feat, and Skarsgard is looking to put his name fifth. The problem is that he only has one sack through three games this season, putting him on pace for possibly five sacks. That would leave him at 97, three short of what he's shooting for. He was hoping to hang up his cleats at the end of the season, seeing as how he's currently 36, but if he doesn't get the 100 sacks he's searching for, he can't allow himself to quit. He's absolutely hellbent on hitting that number. It's not just a personal goal for him, but a marker for his career. As someone who didn't even put on football pads until he got to college, it would prove that he was truly one of the best defensive linemen to ever gear up in the NSFL and that is exactly what he's trying to prove.

As a rookie in the NSFL, my goals for this season are more realistic at this time. The main goal is to contribute the the Baltimore culture by being a positive influence in the locker room while maximizing my TPE. We are starting nine rookies on this team and while we know that the playoffs may be a longs hot this season, everything we do from here on out is going to build towards the ultimate goal of winning championships and restoring the Baltimore dynasty. A personal goal this season would be to lead all of the defensive backs in tackles. As a member of the London Royals of the DSFL last season, Stackinpaper led the whole league in tackles by a defensive back with over 100. While playing in a similar nickle back position this years, I believe that eighty plus tackles is not out of the realm of possibilities. If I could add five passes defensed and two interceptions, I would feel great about the statistical achievement this year. Team wise, a winning record would help catapult this team into a contender by next season and with this young core, we could be looking at many trips to the Ultimus Championship in the next few seasons.

Dax Frost is coming off of his first full season at RB, and he played amazingly in the DSFL with Myrtle Beach. While he didnt bring in any individual awards, he was a key clog in the Myrtle Beach rushing attack that led them to an Ultimini. This season he is looking to build upon his Pro Bowl season with a successful NSFL season. Playing on a young expansion team with a young/low TPE QB, Dax is going to be run into the dirt, and he knows it. Making sure he stays in shape with fresh legs every week will a key part of his ROTY campaign. Statistically, the goal is to break 1000 rushing yards, get 10 total TDs, and have a YPC average over 4.0. The hardest of those goals may be the YPC average. In the DSFL, one of the main knocks on Frost was his low YPC, which could have limited him from getting a OPOTY. In the offseason, Frost attempted to overcome this with more workouts to keep his legs in a better shape. Another goal that he has is to make a Pro Bowl. Its never easy to make a NSFL Pro Bowl, but as a player who has not missed a Pro Bowl yet (s20-21 in DSFL), having a Pro Bowl every year of his career would be a very cool thing to add to a resume.

Well this one is a tough one to answer, since my goal for Forrest has been to win an Ultimus. This season not only did I walk away with that, but I also walked away with the Ultimus MVP. I haven’t really been after any records given that I’ve been in a backfield by committee for my entire career other than season 18. On a selfish level I do want to make the pro bowl again. Over the 6 seasons I have been in the NSFL I have, technically speaking, 8 pro bowl appearances. Five as a running back, two as a returner, and one as an offensive flex player. In my two seasons in the DSFL, I made the pro bowl both years. I have always really enjoyed the fact that Forrest has never missed a pro bowl, and with regression already hitting Gump, I don’t know how many more the old boy can make it to. So, one more this season would be a really nice cap on the streak. Other than that, I just want to grind and make it to another Ultimus, and hopefully bring home back to back championships. The team accomplishments matter a lot more to me than Forrest’s individual ones, so that’s always going to be the primary focus.
