(S3) - Weekend PT #3 - NFL Aspirations

NFL aspiration? Yeah, I have those. If I was to be able to tryout for one NFL team, it would probably be the Dallas Cowboys. As a Texas boy, I always grew up cheering on and believing in America's team. Looking at where they're at now, they have a semi-competent defensive line with Demarcus Lawrence, David Irving, and Tyrone Crawford up there. For me, I would be able to slide into a pretty solid linebacker corp already and play alongside two stars in Jaylon Smith and Sean Lee. We would for a dynamic trio of linebackers, similar to what we have in Arizona right now with the Outlaws. We could be a trio of guys who could impact the game in the run, pass, and special teams. We would truly be the three most athletic players on the field, and that would be something all teams in the NFL would fear. It would also be cool to have one of the leagues most dynamic offenses on the other side of the ball, as they could just pound it down the other team's throat, leaving us on the field for smaller amounts of time. The Cowboys would be awesome to play for on national television every week.

One afternoon, Vincent Sharpei’s phone rang and it was none other than John Fox, head coach of the Chicago Bears. Fox explained to Sharpei that they were looking to help even further booster their offensive line and wanted to give Vincent a tryout. This happened while in the off season when Tuck was in Chicago with Sharpei training. It all worked out perfectly, one of his off days from Tuck, Vincent headed over to Soldier Field to meet with John Fox and some of the other offensive coordinators. They were able to get some work in and look over tapes from the previous year. Kyle Long and Will Sutton were also there, seeing how well they could line up with Vincent next to them. It was a dream come true for Vincent Sharpei, since his heart has always been in Chicago especially because he is from there. The Tryout was a long grueling tryout, but it was stuff that Sharpei was used to. He is one of the hardest workers in the NSFL and he brought his A game with him to the Bears tryout. Fox has him on speed dial, and they text each other often, going back and forth on Vincent Sharpei’s future.

One morning, I was having my morning chocolate milk when my phone rang. Normally, I do not answer the phone, but I was feeling interesting. I still did not answer my phone, so I listened to the voicemail. It was none other than Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots. He wanted me to come in and play alongside Malcolm Butler for a practice. I quickly called him back and went to his voicemail as well. I packed up my stuff and jumped on a plane. I was off to Foxboro, Massachusetts. This was my chance. I was going to be given the chance to be placed on the practice squad or even win a ring with the New England Patriots. As soon as I showed up to practice, I was told I would need to cover Rob Gronkowski. I said "you have to be kidding". Of course, he tore me up. Only a Pass Interference was all I could muster against this. After practice, Bill pulled me aside and said I need a lot more ice cream and sent me on my way. I thought this was going to be my calling, but it turns out that it was not even close to the case. Maybe next time, I guess.

Coming into his rookie season, William Ridley had a decision to make, after skipping the NFL Combine to pursue his dreams in the NSFL, he received a workout invitation from the New England Patriots. Coach Belichick had heard of the hybrid player Ridley was developing in to during his time in Tennessee; and with some holes to fill in the front seven, he dicided to try and recruit Ridley into the Patriots locker room.

Ridley started the week off well, showing skill in both the linebacker and hybrid defensive end position, his motor drew high praise from the coaching staff, and the Super Bowl LI champs drew a favourable reaction from Ridley who admired their facilities, professionalism, and their wellness program which helps Ridley fine tune his preparation to this date.

However, at the end of the day William Ridley sees himself as an NSFL football player. He knew where he wanted to be, and after thanking the Patriots for their time and the opportunity presented to him, Ridley refocused himself on preparing for the NSFL Draft. Everything worked out in the end, with Ridley happily playing with the Liberty and the Patriots beginning their title defence shortly, only time will tell if this relationship develops further in the future.

Being a native to new Orleans, Dan Miller got to tryout with the saints.

The first thing they tried was just a mini combine. Dan tested better than all the other defensive linemen in strength and kept up as far as speed and agility. After that, they ranked the prospects with Dan at the top.

After that began practices and drills. During the drills, not much information was gleaned so they decided to begin drills against the back up offense with Mccown at the helm.

Dan Miller began shredding the center and guards and picking up Mccown constantly. The defensive coordinator evaluating began cracking up when Dan decided to pick up and spin the back up quarterback like they were dancing since there was no reason to fully tackle.

The defensive coordinator was super impressed so he brought the information, stats and film to the head coach Sean Payton.

The head coach immediately decided that the new Orleans saints didn't actually need a defense to play football and then immediately offered 5 million to get a back up running back while also drafting a third running back.

The saints went on to lose many games without Dan as he returned to complete his contract in the NSFL.

With the Jaguars very weak at WR, thanks to Allen Robinson's injury, I was offered a tryout to be on their team. So I packed up some shit, and took a plane to Jacksonville. First, they had me do some windsprints and route running drills to make sure I was in shape.

After that, there was the interview to gauge my work ethic and personality, and the physical, to make sure I wasnt injury prone.

Then the real workout began. They had me do some practice routes with Bortles, and I was able to catch everything he threw my way, even if most of the throws were very off target and required me to work my ass off to catch them.Then we has some full contact practice versus the Jaguars defense, which had me going up against the CB duo of Bouye and Ramsey. I was able to get open a few times and make some big plays, like a 20 yard breakaway TD on a 3rd and 12. In the end, Coughlin was so impressed he offered me a spot on the team right then.

However, I declined, as my number one goal is to win, and the Jaguars are not equipped to be a serious contender in the near future.

Gregor Clegane was offered a tryout to play left tackle for the Denver Broncos. After Bolles went down the Broncos were immediately looking for answers on who to turn to. One of the people they called was Gregor Clegane. He flew out to Denver to see what they had to offer.

On the field coach Vance Joseph, along with several defensive players walked over to greet Clegane. He introduced himself and extended his hand. Clegane, sitting on the bench, just started at him blankly. Joseph, confused, offered to get started. Clegane put his helmet on and lined up at left tackle. First play, pass play, Clegane executed perfectly. He kicked back into the pocket and held back Von Miller on a pass rush. There were whispers on the sideline, Clegane stopped Von Miller.

Next play, another pass, Clegane held Miller off again, this time defending against his lightning fast spin move. More whispers, a crowd was gathering. Next play, running the ball just off Clegane. He dug in and shoved into Defensive End Crick and put him on skates for 5 yards. Another play, more success. Another play. It continues. The coaches are smiling, writing on clipboards, nodding their heads, this guy could be the answer.

Then another play, Von Miller on a bullrush hits Clegane square in the chest as hard as he can. Clegane grabs Miller and with one hand tosses him like a ragdoll. Miller lands on his neck, and lies on the ground motionless. It turns into chaos. Coaches and players are screaming, guys are running off the bench at Clegane swinging helmets. Clegane stands still and grabs each in turn, tossing him aside.

Finally the coaches were able to get everyone under control. Clegane was escorted off the field. He never got a call back.

Coming out of USC, Denzel Diaz was not a highly-touted prospect. His size, lack of college production, and off-the-field incidents resulted in him not being selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. As an UDFA Denzel didn't even receive any calls from NFL teams, but Denzel was not ready to give up on his aspirations of playing professional football. He attended an NFL tryout held by the San Francisco 49ers, where he impressed coaches, but apparently not enough to warrant a signing. Denzel also flew out to Philadelphia to attend the Eagles training camp a few days after, where again he impressed, but not enough to get the coveted opportunity that he dreamed of. With his dreams of being an NFL player seemingly over, Denzel took his talents overseas to join the Canadian Football League. He was able to carve out a spot on a roster for the Toronto Argonauts, but a fight in the locker room that resulted in an injured quarterback ended his Canadian Football League career. Denzel was down, but still open to try-outs, attending a small tryout for the Steelers when Leveon Bell didn't attend to training camp, but was little more than a practice body. A little before his release from the Steelers, the commissioner himself of the DSFL called Denzel, asking him to enter the season 2 draft for the newly created football phenomenon. What followed is history, with Denzel being selected 58th overall and finally finding a home in the DSFL.
