(S3) - Weekend PT #6 - Highs and Lows

The high point for our team was definitely a close victory against the otters at home towards the end of the season. The Otters blew us out in our first game, so to see how far we've come and clinch a playoff spot for the first time was a huge deal for us. A personal high point for me this season came after our last game against Baltimore. It was a huge statement win for us as we play Baltimore again in the playoffs but it was also a cap on a season in which I didn't allow a single sack. That was a huge milestone for me, especially considering the only two other guys to do it were Pest and Winchester who are considered the two best OL in the league.

The low point for our team was after a tough loss in week 6 to the Outlaws. We had had such high expectations for the season so to only have one win after 6 weeks was extremely disenheartening. Luckily we were able to come together as a team to salvage our season, but at that point, especially when the Hawks were still undefeated, you can imagine spirits weren't exactly high in the locker room.

The high point of this season for Clifford Rove was helping to lead the Liberty to a victory that clinched Philadelphia's first appearance in the postseason.  It was not an easy season for Rove, as many Liberty fans can attest, with the quarterback often showing glimpses of greatness, followed by stretches of failure.  Rove was especially proud of his second half performance, where he feels he got his game a little bit more under control.  As he said after he was drafted eleventh overall in the season three draft, Rove's one goal this season was to get the Liberty their first playoff berth, and that made the clinching game his high point of the season.

Rove's low point of the season was definitely the first quarter of the Liberty's season. All of the team's and fan's hopes were placed on him, and he certainly didn't deliver.  Following those first couple games, many thought this season would be a huge disappointment for the Liberty.  Many placed the blame on Rove, rightfully so, for the quarterback had not played nearly as well as Philly had hoped.

While this season has certainly had some highs and lows for Rove, he is hoping to not only play a good game in Baltimore tomorrow, but also help the Liberty to the Ultimus.

First off I'll start off with the High's.

The sabercats had their best record off franchise history. Five wins, eight losses and a tie. Really not the best record but they are looking to improve even more during this off season.

As far as personal highs. Dan Miller definitely had an amazing season. He picked up 24 sacks. 81 tackles. 4 Forced Fumbles 3 Tackle for loss and 2 Fumble Recoveries.

During the season, user ManicMav has a defensive line top 3 and top 6 callouts to the players and Dan was consistently on that list. With his current stats leading as the best defensive tackle in the league, he is also very excited about being able to play in his first pro bowl. (Not officially voted in, but he seems to be the most obvious choice).



Dan's lowest lows came at two different points. The first was losing to the Las Vegas Legion during the later part of the season. Everyone had been beating this team and San Jose was still in play-off contention. Losing to Las Vegas really hurt their chances of getting in to play off contention.

His other lowest low was when he picked up a solid 6 tackles which was one of his worst performances against the yeti. This was bad for two reasons. One, SJS lost. Two, If he would have performed better this game, he would have made the top 6 DT list every week for the entire season... instead he missed it on the final week.

We sat down with Jordan Yates to ask him about his highest and lowest points of the past season;

Interviewer: So Yates, after a very impressive season that solidified you as a top offensive lineman in the league, what was your favorite part?
Jordan Yates: I have to say, my favorite part of the season was the game where I got 9 pancakes against the Wraiths. They are probably the team I dislike the most, so to have a big game against them meant a lot. Not to mention, my fellow tackle Vincent Sharpei also had 10 pancakes with no sacks, so we dominated them on the line as a whole.
Interviewer: On the other end of the spectrum, what was your lowest point of the season?
Jordan Yates: Probably when I allowed two sacks in one game. The two sacks were two out of the three sacks I allowed that season, so if I had performed just a bit better that game my final stats would have looked much more impressive. I feel this season was really good for my career and a nice way for me to finish my career in the National Simulation Football League as an offensive lineman.

The National Simulation Football League is a place filled with overwhelming talent, and Godfrey King is no exception. As with any player, King has days where he seems to be unstoppable on the field, and others where it seems like just nothing will go his way. While the S3 season was mostly positive for King, there were definitely a few moments which were low points. The absolute high point of the season for King must have been his last game of the regular season, where he was able to beat the offensive line men again and again, culminating in a fantastic statistical game of 4 sacks and 6 total tackles. This was not only a high point for the statistical performance, but also because it showed the on field progress King made throughout the whole season. The low point of the season actually came before the regular season games even started. King's father passed a way some days before the Arizona Outlaw's opener. Being the man who inspired Godfrey to play football at the professional level, it certainly took a toll on the player emotionally. King ultimately opted to play the first regular season game, and after getting his first tackle that day, a sack, Godfrey pointed to the sky in remembrance of his late father.

My highest point during the season was just the whole season overall, with us earning the number one seed in the National Football Simulation Conference and giving us another chance at the Outlaws in the championship game. Another big moment was beating the Outlaws in Arizona to ruin their chance at an undefeated season. That game shows us that even thought we will have to travel into Arizona, we can still win. Another one of my favorite moments was my game where I had two interceptions, being a real difference maker. Finally, I really enjoyed getting my interception return touchdown this year. It feels great to finally get a chance to put some points on the board for my team. I did not really have any low points this season. I accomplished pretty much everything I hoped to, especially as a team mate. Austin Delacour and I really locked up opposing team's wide receivers which gave us a better shot at winning. The only bad thing this season for me was personally, I didn't get many passes defensed nor interceptions later in the season. I expect that to change in the coming season as I will continue to work to improve.

Bork Bjornsson’s high point of the S3 season came in week 3 against the Orange County Otters, where he set the NSFL record for most sacks in a single game, with an astounding 6 sacks. This came against an extremely strong Otters offensive line, headed by the dominant Angus Winchester and “The Mountain” Clegane. Bork rounded out the day by also leading his team in tackles, with 8. When Bork reflects back on that day, he remembers not even being aware that he had set the record, or that he was even close. He was so absorbed and focused on the game that he didn’t even realize his own stats. It wasn’t until the game was over and he was handed the game’s stat sheet while walking to his post-game presser that he realized he had set an NSFL record.

Bork Bjornsson actually had two low points. In two games, one against the Hawks and one against the Outlaws, Bork failed to record any stats. None. No tackles, no sacks, not even a penalty. His name was not even on the stat sheet. He had to check with the stat guy to be sure there wasn’t a typo on the stat sheet he was given. Bork didn’t mind though, he’s always been a team player anyway.

One of the high points of Sharpei’s season this year was his great plays against Colorado in week 5. Sharpei was able to get 7 pancakes and allow 0 sacks, as well as commit no penalties. He helped anchor the offensive line to a wonderful 40-0 win over a lowly Yeti Team. After they decided to trade away a lot of their team, it would only make sense that Vincent Sharpei would have a wonderful game against that team and he showed out. To go along with his great moment, one of his worst moments of the season had to be without a doubt Week 12 against the Yellowknife Wraiths in Yellowknife. Even though San Jose came away with a win, Vincent Sharpei had to have one of the worst games of his career, allowing 3 sacks, recording only 2 pancakes and committing a penalty for five yards. San Jose was able to steal a win in Yellowknife to effectively hurt their playoff chances and even potentially end it, but Sharpei just couldn’t do anything on the field in Yellowknife. Some people say it’s the weather and some others say it’s the nerves because there has been a lot of pressure on Sharpei since he said that he was going to test free agency this off season.
