I don't often go in for advertisements, as I don't want to lend credence to a product that I don't know everything about. I don't want to end up supporting a sweatshop or corporate sociopath by mistake. But when the Southern Poverty Law Center approached me about a new outreach initiative they were developing, I couldn't say no. The bipartisan organization has done so much immeasurably valuable work for those in need. From research and publication to legal defense and advocacy, I support everything they stand for, and so I was happy to lend whatever credibility I can bring to their cause.
The actual advertisement came in the form of a PSA-style TV and internet ad asking for donations and political support for necessary reform in the midterm elections. It was tastefully done, without too much flair or any awful Sarah McLachlan music (sorry Sarah) in the background. It was an honor and a pleasure to work with the SPLC in their noble cause.
